Bath and Body Works Velvet Sugar Fine Fragrance Mist

Bath and Body Works Velvet Sugar

By Harshitha Neti.

I have been bringing out my vanilla-warm-cozy winter scents now that the weather is getting cooler. These scents feel like a warm hug in the coolest days of the year. Velvet Sugar is one of the vanilla based scents I really enjoy wearing during the winters. Velvet Sugar is a scent that was recently added to the Signature Collection of Bath and Body works. It is available online and in their stores. This mist was gifted to me by my friends on my birthday since they know that I’m mad about BBW scents. This review covers my experiences with the full-sized mist.

Price:

$14 on the BBW website, however there are a lot of Buy 3 Get 3 offers in the store and on their site most of the times. This mist is available online at around Rs.800. However, since this was a gift, I’m not sure about its exact price.

My Experience with Bath and Body Works Velvet Sugar Fine Fragrance Mist:

The packaging on this product, like all other BBW mists, is beautiful. However, this bottle is extra cute with all those hearts floating around- it’s just adorable. Velvet Sugar was first introduced as a seasonal scent, but BBW decided to make it their permanent ‘Signature’ scent because of all the craze it garnered. Coming to the smell, the first hit of the mist is somewhat alcohol intensive. After the first few seconds, a vanilla scent surfaces. I do not detect any apple, strawberry or jasmine notes whatsoever. There is an ‘edible’ component to this smell, which I presume is the Red Velvet Créme. However, it is not at all a strong ‘lick me’ kind of fragrance. The smell itself is somewhat watered down and it is quite difficult to go overboard with the spritzing, which I feel is a really good thing since I can easily overuse my mists at times. There is a further depth in this scent that adds a floral dimension to the smell. The floral notes provide a nice balance to the overall scent making it an all-season usage mist. All throughout the dry down, the vanilla note is undying.

Overall, this is a perfect daytime and night-time scent, but I prefer using it in winters since my summers are mostly reserved for citrusy scents. The mist is quite long lasting. Like all other BBW mists, the longevity is poor when used on the skin alone. That is why I use my body mists immediately out of the shower- when the skin pores are open so that the scent is sealed in along with my body lotion. I also spray on my clothes and hair to keep catching whiffs of the scent all throughout the day. I did not feel the need to top up with this mist since it lasts all day long on clothes, especially when worn in the layers of clothing underneath sweaters or woollens in winter.

Bottomline, this is a nice winter scent that reminds me of Christmas treats and fresh-baked vanilla cookies. However, this is not at all overpowering and is somewhat mild compared to other vanilla inspired scents from BBW.

Pros of Bath and Body Works Velvet SugarFine Fragrance Mist:

• Smells like fresh baked vanilla cookies with some cream and icing- the hit of floral notes complements these elements nicely
• Long lasting when used on clothes and layered with a scentless body lotion
• Sillage or projection power of the fragrance is medium, it does not scream out perfume
• The scent itself is watered down, there is less chance to go overboard and choke others to death
• Huge quantity provided, I like to mix this with citrusy and fruity scents to make my own signature scents

Cons of Bath and Body Works Velvet Sugar Fine Fragrance Mist:

• Quite a linear scent- the mist did not unfold into different layers of smells through the day, it remained what it was on the first spray.

IMBB Rating:

4/5
