Hello gorgeous ladies,

With Essence launching some new lipsticks in the “Sheer and Shine” range, now I’ve added a few new ones to my collection. So today, I am going to review a fairly new lip product by Essence called Essence Sheer and Shine Lipstick in the shade “Frosted.”

My Experience with Essence Frosted Sheer and Shine Lipstick:

Packaging: Essence has really upped it’s packaging game lately. The “Sheer and Shine” lipsticks come in silver shiny bodies with the cover in the shade of the lipstick which is semi transparent. The packaging is simple, cute, and I like that the tube of the lipstick represents the lipstick shade. The packaging is plastic, but a considerable upgrade from the old Essence lipstick tubes. The Essence logo is carved on the lipstick bullet which looks really high end.

Color:  These lipsticks are soft, with sheer colour pay-off, and with a pleasantly light feeling on the lips. The lipstick will provide your lips with a subtle colour and a fantastic shine. The shade “Frosted” is as horrible as it sounds!! It has almost no colour pay-off, but deposits a ton of “silvery frost” to the lips!! I don’t know what I was thinking when I got this shade!!!

Pigmentation: Since these lipsticks are named “sheer,” the pigmentation is not the greatest, especially this shade is the most terrible out of the lot. It just has a flush of frost with no colour pay-off. I would say the pigmentation is worse than a lip balm.

Texture: These lipsticks are really glossy and shiny. The formulation is quite lightweight and feels like nothing on the lips. They do not tug or pull during application and are actually quite hydrating. Since I love matte lipsticks, normally, I don’t like this finish in a lipstick.

Longevity:  I cannot expect much longevity out of a sheer lipstick with shine! I would say this baby stays on the lips for about 2-3 hours after which it loses shine and starts to fade away. Reapplication is required throughout the day just like lip balms.

Pros of Essence Frosted Sheer and Shine Lipstick:

  • Sturdy and fancy packaging with Essence logo carved on the bullet.
  • Hydrating on the lips.
  • Very comfortable on the lips.
  • Not sticky whatsoever.
  • Super affordable.
  • Easily available online and in drugstores.

Cons of Essence Frosted Sheer and Shine Lipstick:

  • Terrible shade!!!
  • Very very sheer colour-payoff.
  • This shade is not suitable for all skin tones.
  • Not long-lasting at all.
  •  Not available in India.

IMBB Rating:
2/5 (2 points for other good features of this lipstick).

Would I Recommend/Repurchase Essence Frosted Sheer and Shine Lipstick?
I think Essence has done a fair job on these new lipsticks, the formula is good and I really like the shade selection, but if you are expecting a creamy lipstick with great longevity, then this one is not for you. To explain it in short, I would say it’s just a glorified version of a lip balm with a little less hydration as compared to a lip balm. If this description intrigues you, then there’s no harm trying out some shades at such an affordable price. I am sure not going to repurchase this.
