Big Indian Skincare Survey

indian skincareWhile Rati was doing her Chanel shopping yesterday, I was wondering if many of the products created by foreign brands fail completely in Indian market. Many of them certainly fail because of the prices, that much I can see. Indian cosmetics companies are savvy enough to keep their prices low in order to sell. Not only the prices, sometimes the products fail because Indians are looking for something else. A market where skin whitening products sell in huge numbers (Fair & Lovely zinadabad) and where many women do not even own a single blush, it is a complex market for many companies to understand. A market which is also obsessed with ayurvedic and herbal products. While Rati was looking at skincare products, I remember Fly Girl telling me that women would spend anything for skincare products. ‘Would they?’ I wondered. But what I wondered again was the same thing- whether the companies even know what our Indian ladies wants in skincare. Acne creams, moisturizers, cleansers, or sunscreen? Well, I thought it was time to find out. Hence the Big Indian Skincare Survey!

  1. hello everyone :handshake: :handshake: :yahoo: :thanks: :shying: :preen: :pompom: :jiggy1: :happydance:   :puchhi:

  2. I don’t use a skin cream for any of hte reasons you have listed…I use one which has ingredients that I know are good for my skin so my skin stays healthy or gets healthy or whatever..it doesn’t make my skin brighter/whiter/fairer or anything 😐

      1. I have been through all that …now am so old and ancient I care a damn about what people think I look/sound/weigh like :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: And the other thing is, healthy skin is the best skin..not fairer/brighter/whiter skin

        1. same here…..confidence comes from within when u feel peace with urself…no matter how much we doll up, its never enough. if I’m comfortable with myself…let the world go to hell with its expectations frm me. Girl power yay!! :phoolan:

  3. I finished…I finished the survey….I think most women would like to have a product that lightens their face and yes, women like me would spend obnoxious amounts to get rid of acne….. 😐

  4. Hiiiiiiiiiii….Rads…where is chettan….I would have called him Mr. Rads…but I need to give him more respect

      1. Oh……snoring…….. :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: there is a killip you get…you can stick that to his nose na….. O:) O:) O:) O:) O:)

        1. Why should I killlllippppp…yesterday tho you and Nupur were making plans naaa…you two only keep him…I don’t hab to worry about the snoring then :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

  5. I enjoyed doing the survey.. Dono y I always like answering such questions.. might be coz ‘we have choices to select from’ and also there is no marking system πŸ˜€

  6. what fantastic weather..hate to be inside the office but on the brighter side office khali khali ‘cos of the long holiday coming up..i love it love it.. :happydance: :happydance:

      1. ohh sorry about that..hope you have lots of fun nevertheless.

…just like business disruption cos of any type of problem means more work for me..most ppl look at these bandhs in hyd as a chutti..for me its extra work (crisis management)

  7. I know how fair and lovely flies off from the shelves of defence canteens……like I have seen women buying three to four packs at one time….does that mean they are using fair and lovely so extensively….because the defence canteens always stocks up on these creams and there is no need to stock them up personally…… O:) O:) O:) O:) O:) O:) O:) did anyone understand what I am trying to say….I think I need tea…. 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐

    1. i so much agree with you Jomol..fair n lovely sells like anything in defence canteens..be it women or men fair n lovely is like one thing i see in everyone’s cart.. its the bestselling product in our canteens πŸ˜€

    1. Hehehee…for us girls ..normal skin tone means skin that is neither oily nor dry…not skin that is perfectly normal without any problems πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

      1. n n i have noticed reading all d revus here on imbb that most of us have oily/combi skin only….
dry skin exception only rati n nids :victory2: :victory2: :victory2:

    2. we need something to worry ok!!if we agreed to hav a normal skin how we gonna crib n spend more n more on prods πŸ˜‰
i really hav a horrible skin btw πŸ˜‰ :yuck:

  8. Interesting post! U shud add ‘facial serum’ in the texture category. I prefer the serums these days for my acne-prone skin.

Donno if its a marketing survey or just our IMBB family survey….but I participated in a skin care survey by Flamingo Mkt Research recently in Singapore, especially for Indians and other foreigners.
N let me tell u it was SERIOUS….coz it lasted for 1.5hrs, face-face and we were paid verry handsomely, sgd300 = approx 10k INR….now thats really serious.
and I was annoyed how much they took it for granted that all we desis care abt is a fair skin. most Qs were related to fairness prods. :pissedoff:

I’ve been meaning to write abt it in deatil, but wasn’t sure if it wud be in breach of any terms.

    1. bt i guess india must be ranking pretty high in fairness products. however i must tell you people in south east asia are more obsessed about whitening even though they barely need it. I mean every second brand there offers whitening products. May be the survey was not as you took it. the fact that loooads of companies offer whitening products in singapore so they must be trying to expand their market. :struggle:

      1. hmmmm it looks like a pretty old report though, from 2007. although things may not hav chngd much since then, there is more awareness towards having a healthier skin rather than a white skin. n aging concerns seem to be growing….even could be taking over the fairness obsessions. no matter if a person has a medical background or not, most seem to understand that one can only expect to reverse the sun damage but can’t change their genetics….unless they go by the Michael Jackson way!
Anyways, all theses concerns r fed to us by the manufacturers …when many companies come up with the solutions for the same problem….someone will feed us with a new skin concern n make prods for it.
Still the fairness funda seems to be here for good. TRUE.

  9. Finished the survey…. :yahoo: :yahoo: enjoyed marking the choices, i agree with jomu even i wud spend any amount to get rid of the acne :yikes: :yikes:

  10. thats wat they wer trying to find out, if indians dont hav perfect skin y don’t they use everything with whitening effects. ther was one interesting Q ‘whats d definition of beauty for indian women’….after i answered so elaborately n politically correct…the guy asks me ‘u don wan fairer skin?’. so annoying. although they didn’t try to market anything so i let it go. :pissedoff:

  11. done….and i wanted more selection in question one (have more than 2 probs with my skin :D) and an others col in selection of cream…bec i dont select creams based on skin lightining, brightning, etc……

  12. good stuff :star: :star: .sir jee u mentioned me saying this and id still say if you give me a set amount of moooooney a bigg.biggest chunk would go to skin care followed by make up for me;) :waytogo: :waytogo: :waytogo:

  13. Thanks for doing this survey!!! hopefully skincare companies concentrating on Indians will know better what we look for!……. but there are a couple things, like, I cannot describe my skin with just two points in the first question (I chose 6 and had to reduce to 2), and third question was again confusing, I would use a lightening cream only on scars or dark spots from acne, otherwise would prefer something that would just be good for my skin.

  14. Hey i changed my pic on gravaat.com but here it is not showing the chnaged image what should i do 😐 :nababana:
