Colorbar Mulberry Velvette Matte Lipstick Review

Hi girls,

I shall be reviewing a lipstick today. I bought this lipstick on an impulse as it was the only lipstick available in my vicinity that matched the dress I had to wear to a party. I don’t like Colorbar Velvette Matte range as it stains majorly and for the same reason I used this lipstick just once and gave it to my cousin who was head over heels in love with the shade. My Experience with Colorbar Mulberry Velvette Matte Lipstick:

Packaging: It comes in a transparent casing with silver finish. The shade number is mentioned on a round sticker at the bottom. Since, it is a transparent case, you can recognize the shade. Also, they have encapsulated the same shade at the bottom of the lipstick. It makes it easier to locate the lipstick. In fact, my cousin once accidentally opened the small transparent opening at the bottom and used the content in it as an eye shadow. 😛

Shade: True to its name, it’s a deep mulberry shade. Somewhere between maroon and wine. It has purple undertones. The shade is a bit dress specific and can’t be worn with every dress. Also, it flatters a vast array of skin tones.

Texture/ Finish: The texture is smooth, but it feels a little dry after 3-4 hours. The lipstick glides easily, but tends to settle into fine lines. Hence, prior exfoliation of lips is necessary. It gives a semi matte finish if applied on its own. During winters, lips tend to become dry and chapped. Therefore, it is important to have a lip balm underneath this shade.

Pigmentation: It is super pigmented; one swipe gives you the required colour. In fact, people with pigmented lips will like it as it tends to give full coverage. Like all other Colorbar Velvette Matte Lipsticks, it stains; but, thankfully not too much.

Staying Power: The colour stays put for a good 4-5 hours, after which it leaves a purple stain which doesn’t look bad. The lipstick can not survive full meals, but with little munching, it wont budge.

Fragrance: It has a chocolate(y) fragrance which subsides within half an hour of the application. I wish these cosmetics companies pay some heed to our feedback, we don’t want fragrance in our cosmetics, I keep repeating this in all my reviews.

Pros of Colorbar Mulberry Velvette Matte Lipstick:

• Beautiful steel finish casing.
• Highly pigmented and stays for a good 4-5 hours.
• Does not feather.
• Albeit, the colour is dress specific, will look good on all skin tones.
• The small encapsulated colour at the bottom may also be used in emergency as an eye shadow.

Cons of Colorbar Mulberry Velvette Matte Lipstick:

• Stains a bit.
• Settles into fine lines, so prior exfoliation is necessary.
• A lip balm underneath is required as it tends to make lips dry after 2 hours or so.

Would I Repurchse/Recommend Colorbar Mulberry Velvette Matte Lipstick?

I won’t repurchase it as I like the Crème Touch range by Colorbar more. As far as recommendation is concerned, at the price it is a decent lipstick. You can make out from the pics how my cousin has used/abused it. 😛
