e.l.f. Studio Glossy Gloss- Merry Cherry
Hi again girls!
I must first of all get it out there that I’m not at all a gloss person. I do not naturally gravitate towards buying them but I’ve read great reviews online about e.l.f. Glossy Gloss & decided to purchase a couple of shades because they are so affordable as I never feel like spending much on glosses anyways. So far my experience with these has been generally favourable, details below!

I love the packaging; it is a hard see through plastic which almost feels like glass. The matte black screw on top is the best part of the packaging. e.l.f do a very good job with their matte black finish on their Studio line products. It feels very sturdy & is compact enough, convenient for travel. But having said that, there sure is nothing extraordinary about it. It’s just a decent quality standard gloss packaging.
It has a white synthetic bristled brush which I frankly do not care for. It is too thick & inconvenient. I wish it came with a doe-foot applicator. This brush puts on the product fine but when you swipe over it again to displace the gloss evenly it ends up swiping away what you had previously put on. It is not at all easy to work with. It’s not just this brush, but even with my favourite lip brush it would not apply well, the texture of the gloss is such that brushes would be a very impractical way to go. I hope e.l.f change that & give us a different applicator!
In the description, e.l.f says “Looking for ultra shine without the shimmer?”; that’s exactly what this gloss is – Super shiny, but without the slightest hint of shimmer. It is very strange to see that especially for someone who is not that into glosses & the only glosses I’ve seen or used previously have had shimmer. That shimmer used to put me off but this gloss is changing my mind about glosses.
In the swatches below, I have applied it on my wrist on the left with a lot of product on the brush & on the right with as little as product as possible. It does have a good color pay off.
The color is a deep cherry red, that is buildable but the brush doesn’t help in that, you just have to work with it a lot to get a lot of color. But it is a much pigmented product for a gloss. Even when applied sheer I really like its look. The texture is sticky but not overly so, it is just sticky enough to last a few hours on the lips, a runny gloss will just slide off but this does not feather even without a lip pencil under it. It stays where you apply & only the color starts fading after 3 hours. Initially it felt heavy on applying but then it felt very comfortable on the lips. It does not separate or “bunch up” when pursing the lips together. But transfers very easily if you eat & drink, you’d need to reapply it then. Another thing I appreciated about this gloss is that it is sufficiently hydrating. I didn’t feel the urge to wear any kind of balm under it, it is moisturizing.
On my lips, on the top, it is just the gloss without anything under it. I really like how subtle yet shiny it manages to look. On the bottom image, I have worn it over a deep matte red lipstick. I’m in love with how it looks over a red!!
- Very true to its claims – a truly glossy gloss!
- Has zero shimmer
- Nicely pigmented
- Sturdy & decent packaging
- Does not bleed
- Not very sticky but not runny either
- Very affordable
- Looks good on its own or on top of another color as well
- Hydrating formula – has vitamin E
- The brush – it does not help in applying the color uniformly. A doe foor applicator would have been better
- Staying power is not great, lasts 2 or maximum 3 hours.
Would I Repurchase & recommend it?
I do recommend it but it’s not like you will miss out something tremendous if you don’t buy this. It is decent; it is a gloss that does the job. I like it & I definitely want to try more shades from this line.
4/5 (-1 for the brush)
For the price, it is a good find & I;m glad I bought this & can’t wait to try more colors from this range. This gloss definitely makes me want to throw on gloss more often than I ever did before. I couldn’t stand the sticky, shimmery glosses I had seen previously & this one surely gets thumbs up from me for its formula & pigmentation!
Take care girls & happy Makeuping!
