Hope you’re all enjoying the onset of summer as much as me. It seems that with every passing year, my tolerance winter and the cold is declining. Maybe I’m just getting old or maybe I don’t see the appeal of winter clothes anymore (yeah, they hide fat, but they’re useless 10 out of 12 months of the year). Snow looks pretty in Yash Raj films, but in real life it’s such a nuisance, especially when it turns to ice and you’re a total klutz and keep slipping on it (#truestory). Anyway, I think you get my point: I’m super happy to say bye bye to winter! I decided to celebrate the start of summer by buying some sexy, glossy lip products; today I’ll be reviewing one of them for you. So let’s get started!

It is “formulated with a blend of light hydrating oils & concentrated pigments, delivers lasting color with a glossy finish.” Also it’s, “packed with 30% water” and leaves “lips soft, comfortable and hydrated for up to 6 hours.”

My Experience with L’oreal Wet Shine Stain in Berry Persistent

So I haven’t bought L’oreal products in ages because, quite frankly, I hadn’t heard of any product from them that excited me. I feel like other drugstore brands are constantly reinventing themselves, but L’oreal seemed so “meh.” Of course, die-hard L’oreal fans would argue, why fix what isn’t broken? And, frankly, they have a point too. Anyway all that changed for me when I heard about this product (I must have been living under a rock, because it was only recently!). I had to try it out and picked two shades that are very much in my comfort zone, Berry Persistent and Infinite Fuschia (if you haven’t already, you can read Neetu’s detailed review on that shade here). Berry Persistent is described simply as a “berry” shade by L’oreal, the persistent part of course comes from the fact that this is supposed to be long lasting (and I get no points for guessing that!). It’s a gorgeous deep-berry shade with hints of purple in it. It looks much darker in the tube than it does on my lips and skin.

This is the first product I’ve ever used in my life that actually lasts longer on me than it claims to. I mean I’ve worn it for an entire 8 hours without a touch up! It’s really an apply it and forget-about-it kind of product. It doesn’t transfer on to food, drink or clothes; you do have to give it a minute or two to ‘set’ after you first apply it, but once it’s set it just doesn’t budge. It feels wet like a liquid stain when you apply it and then transforms into a glossy finish. It’s quite amazing and blew my mind the first few times I applied the product. For people with dry lips (mine are parched) this product will moisturize the lips and keep them feeling smooth throughout the day. It doesn’t enhance any dry areas on the lips and needs to primer/chap stick prior to application.

Application is easy but a little messy. The product glides all over the lips and the doe-foot applicator enables precise application. However, because of the consistency of the product it’s easy for it to glide beyond the lip line. Also, the product is a little bit streaky and it’s challenging to get even coverage, especially when wearing just one coat. You can apply multiple coats to fill in areas and make the color look more even, though. Once the product sets, it doesn’t bleed outside of the lip line or feather. It doesn’t enhance lip lines and gives lips a plump, healthy look.

This product feels incredibly light on the lips. I often forget I’m wearing something on my lips until I purse them, then it feels a little waxy but not in a heavy, weighed down way. The product has a sweet smell which is very obviously synthetic. It’s not my favorite smell in the world, but it’s not particularly bothersome either and disappears after a while. Overall, I’m super pleased with this product and plan on purchasing both this shade and more shades from this line. Oh, and let me close by saying that not only are these dupes for YSL glossy stains, they’re totally comparable to them in terms of performance. So if you’re looking for a great lip product, without breaking the bank you might want to give these a shot!
