In today’s post, I will talk in detail about the cause of deep acne scars and pimple holes on your skin and what you can do to get rid of them. If you want to know more details, then please read on 🙂

How are pimples formed?

When the oil glands on the skin are overactive (that means they would secrete more oil), these get infected with bacteria, and that’s when pimples get formed. Pimples can come up on face, chest, shoulder, and back area. The loss of mass from the point of spot creates depression or pimple holes and they are called atrophic acne scars. These pimples holes can be treated. There are multiple ways to treat deep acne scars. I will tell you in detail about they can be treated in this post.

What Causes Acne?

Acne can be of two types – non-Inflammatory and inflammatory. Whiteheads and blackheads usually fall under the non-inflammatory subtype, while papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts are the inflammatory kind of acne. Inflammatory acne tends to leave behind scars and marks as pores become engorged as a result of excess oil, dead cells, and bacteria clogging them. This leads to swelling of the pores, which causes the follicle walls to expand and break. If this break happens close to the surface of your skin, then it is minor and heals quickly, but if the rupture is deep, then the infected material may leak out into the dermis, destroying healthy skin tissue.

Home Remedies to Treat Deep Acne Scars:

Vitamin E improves the skin’s appearance, and also fights free radicals as it is filled with antioxidant properties. You just need to puncture the capsule with a pin and squeeze the contents into your finger. Apply to affected area directly. You can apply it daily before bedtime as it will penetrate into deeper layers of skin at that time.

1. Baking Soda Masks: At-Home Microdermabrasion:

If you don’t want to go for professional microdermabrasion treatment, then you can use baking soda for the scars and fill up holes as baking soda is safe to use at home. It’s also used as an ingredient in professional microdermabrasion treatments. You can do it by mixing one tablespoon of baking soda with two tablespoons of filtered water. Apply the mixture to the affected area and leave in place for two minutes. Rub gently, then rinse off with fresh water. Repeating this process once in a month would help minimize deep acne scars. Do not leave it for more duration as it may irritate the skin.

2. Epsom salt treatment:
Epsom salt contains magnesium which has excellent anti-inflammatory properties. These properties help reduce the size of the scar and also help to fill up the pimple holes from the skin. Take ½ cup of Epsom salt and mix with a little water to make a thick paste. Apply this mixture to your face and neck and massage gently for a few minutes. Leave it on for about 20 minutes before washing it off. You can do it every alternate day to notice the difference.

3. Tea Tree Oil treatment:

Tea tree oil helps in getting rid of acne and also helps in diminishing the appearance of the scars with its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Take 3-4 drops of tea tree oil and mix it with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil. Apply it evenly on to the scars and lesions. Do it daily for better results.

Professional treatments:

Dermabrasion and Microdermabrasion for Deep Acne Scars:

1. Dermabrasion involves usage of high-speed instrument to “sand” the top layers of skin away. This procedure leaves the skin pink while it heals. Healing takes longer than microdermabrasion. The patient is usually given anaesthesia in this process. In microdermabrasion, a clinician uses abrasive crystals to remove top layers of skin. Microdermabrasion does not involve anaesthesia and skin color typically returns to normal within 24 hours.

2. Acne surgery: You should opt for this option only if you have severe scarring on the face and if pimple holes are too deep. During surgery, doctors usually fill up the holes left behind by pimples.

3. Synthetic fillers: You can also go for synthetic fillers with help from certified doctors to fill the holes. During this procedure, doctors inject synthetic fillers into the holes. Some doctors may inject tissue taken from one’s own body for filling holes that are very deep.
