Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm – Ingenue Review

Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm – Ingenue

Who isn’t curious about these chubby lip pencils Revlon’s been churning out lately? First there was the Balm Stains, then recently came the Matte Balms and the Lacquer Balms. I have one of the latter to share with you today, the shade Ingenue.

From the Revlon website:

High Shine Lacquer. Moisture Rich Balm
A lacquer finish that’s beyond brilliant.Balm that’s beyond comforting. Our Triple Butter Complex of Shea, Coconut and Mango butters nourishes lips.

Revlon has made it easy to tell the different formulas apart via the finish of their packaging. They’re all in the same plastic, twist-up tube that the original Revlon Balm Stain is in, but the tube of the Matte Balms are matte, while the Lacquer Balms’ are glossy and reflective. The color of the tube is (almost) the same as the color of the lipproduct inside.

The color of Ingenue does not look impressive when swatched. It’s a sheer, peachy brown with silver shimmer. On the lips though, is where it comes alive. It enhances my natural lip color, making the color of my lips look more even and giving a healthy, moisturized appearance to it.This is one of those lip pencils that don’t require me to use a mirror when applying it, because it’s sheer and the color looks very natural.

My skin tone is medium with yellow undertones, NC35 at MAC. My lips are semi-pigmented. I would guess that on pale lips, Inguenue might look too brown and plain. But on more pigmented lips like mine, it should provide natural-looking color and blend in with the natural shade of the lips.

But let’s discuss the shimmer in it. Perhaps it would be better described as glitter. I think they’re quite noticeable because the particles aren’t exactly teeny, however, I’m happy that they don’t saturate the base color of Ingenueso the lippie doesn’t look too shimmery or frosty on the lips. I’m not too fond of wearing shimmer on my lips, but I’ll keep wearing this because I like the color of Ingenue. The shimmer/glitter, by the way, is present in most of the Revlon Lacquer Balms.
This has a shiny finish, which I like because I have dry lips with lots of lines, and most lippies with this kind of finish helps make my lips look less dry. The texture of the pencil I’d expected to be softer, since that’s how shiny/glossy lippies usually feel, but this is pretty solid in the tube. It has some slip to it though and applies on the lips smoothly enough. The texture of the Ingenue Lacquer Balm is similar to that of the original Balm Stains, just with a little more slip and moisture.

The Ingenue Lacquer Balm wears for 2 to 3 hours on my lips if I don’t drink much or eat during that time. After eating a snack or meal the color is just about completely gone from my lips.

Yes I would.

IMBB Rating: 3.75/5

Overall:I would recommend purchasing the Revlon Ingenue Colorburst Lacquer Balm if you want a shiny, sheer, natural-looking or nude color (‘nude’ may be different for everybody. Do try in-store if you can) on your lips that’s affordable, and don’t mind it having some visible shimmer, or short wear time. Personally, I like this because it’s so easy to swipe on and wear!

    1. Yeah you said it Neha. Actually I wish Revlon hadn’t put shimmer at all in any of the lacquer balms…the shimmer’s too chunky.

  2. I just wish it was bit pigmented.. I just doesn’t show up on my lips… I so much wished I could get the actual shade as in the tube… and the wear time is a bummer… *headbang*

    1. I understand about it being too sheer on some skin tones Nabanita…would’ve been great too actually if it were more pigmented. 🙂

  3. I wish the shimmer was a bit more tiny *hihi* *hihi* then it would have looked decent *happy dance* *happy dance* but that is a nice on the go shade *happydance* *happydance*
