Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm – Shameless

By Arpita Sahu

I am a hard core lover of the entire Colorburst range of lip balms by Revlon. While the lacquer ones are great too, I still get tempted to buy more of the matte balms. I find it very hard to carry off bold and wicked colors but with winters coming in, I could not resist laying my hands on this wicked eggplant color called”Shameless”. The shade number is 215. Before I start reviewing this, let me tell you all the 10 shades from this collection are to die for. They have an entire collection varying from peach and pinks to bold colors like red and purple. I can’t help drool at them each time I pay a visit to the store.

It comes in a chubby stick with the exact color of the lipstick over it. The cap is of the same color too(an yes, it is adequately tight and does not keep falling off unlike other crayons that I have used in the past). It comes with a transparent sticker pasted over the cap and stick though I feel it can be easily removed and re-pasted(so, not a great safety measure as such).
Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm offers velvety color with balm-like moisture. Infused with a Triple Butter Complex of Shea, Mango and Coconut Butter. This retractable chubby crayon requires no sharpener.

Ingredients :

MenthaPiperita (Peppermint) Oil, Octyldodecanol, Cera Alba ((Beeswax) Cire d abeille), BHT, Benzoic Acid.

My experience with Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm – Shameless:

With the second swipe itself, you get the perfect eggplant color which gives you that gorgeous intense shade. I try to mix a little bit of lacquer balm with pink undertone to mellow the violet undertone of this shade but that aside too, I love this color. It is velvety matte texture and hence leaves no shine on the lips. I have used most shades of this range and it really does not flake like other matte lipsticks. It is highly pigmented and after long hours of use, it leaves a stain on the lips. I love the stain too, in fact I deliberately do not reapply in order to keep that stain on.I bought another shade “Audacious” from the range which is a bright orange. I’m just glad I picked up two very different colors and not the usual pink(which I end up buying every other time).

Pros of Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm – Shameless:

1. Gorgeous color, you are bound to get complimented if you wear this one.
2. It is very long lasting, definitely more than 5-6 hours.
3. Adequately pigmented.
4. You don’t need a sharpener unlike other lip crayons.
5. Gives you a moisturising shine.
6. You don’t need a lip balm beneath it, can be applied to bare lips.
7. Very light-weight and travel-friendly.
8. It glides very smoothly and does not make the lips look patchy.

Cons of Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm – Shameless:

1. It has a peppermint feel and scent to it. I did not quite like it, not a mint fan anyways but for those who donot have a problem with the mint scent, go get it now.
2. A little on the expensive side.
3. I am not sure if they would completely substitute a tinted balm(Like it won’t treat your chapped lips) but nevertheless, it is hydrating for sure.
4. It makes your lips look a little thinner(well, for those who want to make their lips thinner, it is actually a pro).

This is how it looks in clear sunlight though in darker lights, it tends to show off its dark eggplant shade.

IMBB Rating – 4.8/5 (I will deduct 0.2 only because I’m fonder of peach/pink shades and this collection does have some very amazing ones).

  1. Hi! Neha can you please tell me if this bleeds? I want to buy it to wear for a wedding so I need to make sure I’m not going to have a purple ring around my lips! Thanks in advance 🙂

    1. Hi Paavani, Sorry for the late reply..It does bleed a little bit…but you could easily use a blotting paper to take off the excess before you step out. That way it won’t bleed further and ensure the color stays on your lips.
