Teenage Makeup Suggestion : Ask IMBB

I am 19 years old with extremely problematic skin. I have had acne and scarring since the time I was 13 years old. I now not only have scars and spots but also pigmentation. I seem to have small white patches on parts of my skin and also darker pigmentation on other parts. The thing is, I can no longer point out my original skin colour or natural skin colour. I also have pretty bad dark circles. My skin is not particularly sensitive and I only break out certain times in the month but when I do it is bad.

I want your suggestions for a good full coverage foundation that will help cover my blemishes, pigmentation and is preferably sweat/water proof.

I’m also not very confident about my ability to find the right shade of foundation for myself as I wouldn’t know what part of my face to match it to. So, it there any place that I could go to where people can find me the right shade and texture foundation for free or a nominal fee.

Also, suggest a brand for the same preferably within rs 600. Since, it is my first time I want to experiment before I think of buying a high-end one.

  1. I have reviwed today itself on colorssence aqua makeup base that gives complete coverage and price is Rs 110,I would also suggest Revlon colorstay foundation for oily/combination skin. you must consult a dermatologist and you may drink blood purifier everyday to keep acne away, I always have neem tablets everyday as a natural blood purifier!!

  2. Hi Manu, i too suffered a lot during my late teens and early twenties with all the problems you mentioned…i tried everythng anybody suggested. Finally when nothing helped i had to go to a dermatologist and thats when i found some relief. Would suggest you the same. Rather than hiding behind makeup, please get a healthy skin and thereafter you can try any product that enhances your beauty ๐Ÿ™‚ take care

  3. I would give the same suggestion Manu, do visit a derma once. Our body goes through a lot of hormonal changes at this age and it is important that we eat right. you should not be having any need to do makeup at this age. Get yourself checked and take a healthy diet, drink lots of water and fluids and take care of your stress levals.

regarding foundation i would suggests a tinted moisturiser – oriflame makes a nice one.

full coverage foundation would be revlon colorstay or maxfactor foundations.

Also, follow a regular Cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine once in morning and once in evening. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. yes totally agree with the others.. its imp to hv healthy skin rather thn hiding the problems with make up.. do visit a derma…
tapaswani.. which neem tablets do u hv???
ratiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii… i sent u a mail jus now.. pls replyyyyyyyy

    1. Pia I have neem tablets from Jiva Ayurveda, 120 tablets for 61 rupees, damn cheap comparatively to himalaya neem tablets, one has to order online from Jiva ayurveda, there is also option of cash on delivery, I order many products at a time, like shampoos, and stuff !! :))

        1. When you would check out writing you from india, all prices would change to indian rupees and that too amount would be decreased too

  5. manu, been through what u have, and now its a long long lost story. I would suggest you to NOT use foundation everyday, lets keep that for occasions or outings.
drink lots of water. make green tea a pre requisite to start your day with.
    steam 2ce a wk.
but the most important thing as everyone has already pointed out is to meet a dermatologist.
Now he cant cure u a hundred percent, but he can help, i say this since the culprit being ur ever changing hormonal levels.
if u dont hv severe breakouts, try using scrub almost everyday, a mild everyday scrub. Make sure u keep your scalp dandruff free.

as far as foundation is concerned, get yourself an oilfree tinted moisturizer, or an oilfree moisturizer+ add a light coverage foundation to it, and apply. ofcourse your moisturizer should also have the sufficient SPF depending on wat part of country u stay( the heat severity)

    1. For oily skin or skin with pimples, one should not use scrub at all, instead one should use peel !! ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Tapaswini, scrubs are excellent for oily skin!If she doesnt have breakputs she can everyday use a gentle one like oatmeal or coffee

  6. Hi everyone,
Actually, I have been to a dermatologist, one of the best in Mumbai. In fact, I took her prescribed topical and oral medicines for a year but there wasn’t much change in my skin. While my acne reduced a bit I was still breaking out and the clogged pores and pigmentation didn’t reduce even a bit. My skin problems are highly genetic and hormonal. So, I finally gave up and am now following a CTM routine with lotus suncreen and also Himalaya neem fp every alternate day.
Thank you guys for all the suggestions ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Awwww….your skin sounds like mine!!!! I’d suggest skipping foundation altogether and going for a powder or mineral foundation and agree 100% with what poonam said!

  8. i agree with everyone else here, avoid foundation, you do not want to add to your skin problems. Use a calamine lotion. See a dermatologist.
take neem capsules, apply neem powder on your skin. you can mix neem powder with multani mitti and rose water and even use this daily as a face mask. for pigmentation , try dahi/ curd, preferably a little stale and sour. Apply , leave for 20 -30 mins and wash off. It stinks but it works to lighten skin naturally.

if you must use makeup , just use a compact, Lakme has a nice compact that is super reasonable.

  9. Hey someone on IMBB had reviewed about Cetaphil Cleanser and Toner. Do check it out. Pls pls pls have the follwoing:
    1- stop fried food
    2. start regular exercising
    3. have at least 3 servings of fruit a day
    4. CTM religiously.
    5. check out the hair oil you are using
    6. control dandruff
    7. TAKE IT EASY, stop fretting about this.

    Take care!

    1. wonderful tips Ria. applies to all of us. loved the last tip which is a cause for many a problem not just skin problems. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. hey Manu, then I would suggest you try these two everyday:
    1. Tea Tree oil based face wash
    2. Drink at least two cups of green tea everyday..
Trust me it’ll make a difference.
Plus if you want to clear your face of marks then a glass of Beetroot and carrot juice will be very beneficial… My friend had loads of acne and pimple marks on her face… But she had this juice everyday and he looked flawless on her wedding ๐Ÿ™‚

As far as foundations are concerned, I would highly recommend maXfactor foundations… They are really good!

  11. Well all I can say – if youve been to a dermat and it didnt work, try again ! and yeah the more crap you put on your face the worse it will get, especially if you have acne prone skin that is pigmented …

get your skin care routine down to 2-3 products and dont change them ! Use Cetaphil cleanser … try a mild scrub for once a week use and a moisturiser of your choice …

Drink Green tea ( I dont really believe it helps the skin, especially if the problem is more hormonal but it really does help your body so might as well na ?)

Dont wash your face more than twice a day!
Dont Scrub your face if you have a pimple on it … seriously .. we all love the squeaky clean scrubbed feeling but scrubs on pimples are just BAD !

and go to another dermat … in fact go to a couple .. and if you want im mumbai I can refer you to mine … and remember doctors dont always get it right in the first try … you have to keep going back for follow ups till something works … If you had a urinary tract infection and went to specialist who gave u a prescription, you followed it and it didnt help … you wouldnt leave it alone and pee in pain for the rest of your life right ? Take your skin as seriously as the rest of your body ๐Ÿ˜€

  12. hey i hAve the same probem… i tried dermatalogists too not only they charge a lot but being a college student i really cant wait for months and months for some wonder to happen… i agree v shdnt apply make up but for the time being help me out… i m really confused with concealors and compaq…wht to buy…??
