  1. When I did my trial makeup I tried out only the traditional wedding look and didn’t try the make up for my reception. That was a big blunder as my reception look was pathetic and I would never like to see those pics ever in my life, but the wedding make up was simple and neat so I keep showing only the wedding album and pics to my friends and relatives πŸ˜‰

    1. I’ve seen this happen to some ppl…its so sad na…u dont wanna look at the pics of one of the most imp days of ur life….thankfully the makeup artists are getting much better now…earlier all we cud see was a pink faced bride

      1. I really couldn’t find any good MUAs here in Chennai πŸ™ So Im still sticking on to her when it comes to traditional make up. I booked her again for my baby showers.

    2. I didn’t do any trial only. Hated my makeup on the wedding day. Thankfully the MUA didn’t make me white but she did a sad job. She also stuck some 100 hair pins on my head and by the time I came home my I had a severe headache. Btw my hair dresser was MUA’s husband . Both of them were chit chatting while doing my makeup. :rotfl:

  2. Sadly I too couldnt do any trials for the wedding makeup, though the lady used to do all my preparatory facials, mani-pedi, hair etc. She did a lovely job with my hair, but makeup was too much for me. I was just around 21 and feel that the makeup would have suited an older bride.

I was literally in tears throughout my trip from home to mantap. Then I had to get my cousin to work on my face, lighten the makeup a li’l more and make me look natural πŸ™‚

      1. Similar thing happened to my friend for her engagement…her makeup was fine but the hair dresser must have got some better order or something so didnt turn up himself and sent someone else who just straightened her hair..thats it!!!! my friend anyways has straight hair so she actually needed volume and this dumb fellow did the opp…when i saw her crying i just felt like slapping that guy….made all of us too so upset…and I dread when I hear such stories

  3. I had a major hectic day on my wedding. Courtesy my wife. πŸ™‚

One week before wedding Rati had come to help me buy wedding suit, shirts, shoes for me. So she selected everything for me and I brought them packed in my house to be opened on the wedding day.

When I was finally getting ready to leave for my wedding (I was already an hour or two late) I found that both the shoes in the pair that Rati had got packed for wedding were of the right leg.

So we spent nearly an hour searching for the receipt, running to Woodland in Connaught Place, trying to find the shop (there are 2- 3 woodlands and I didn’t remember which one I had bought them from), and trying to get one of my shoes exchanged.

No wonder when I finally reached there everyone was in a hurry to get the wedding ceremony over. And hence the pundit forgot about the mangalsootra. πŸ˜€

    1. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

This is the first time I’ve heard such a thing….why didnt u bother to even open the stuff before the wedding day?

      1. You’d be surprised to know that I do not even go to trial rooms to try the clothes while purchasing. Whenever I like something, I just ask the size and buy it. Rati was horrified at first but now I think she has got used to it.

More to do with my nature. I do not get the kick out of buying clothes or stuff. Most of my kicks are mental. I buy clothes or things because I need to. But I do not waste my mental space on them. I just finished reading 3 novels this week. To me, that is more satisfying. πŸ™‚

        1. I can understand that shpng for clothes etc may not interst u in the same way as it does….but the prupose of trying out is also to see if it fits well and looks nice on you…so even if ur buying coz u need it…it shud still fit well rite..anyways for ur wedding atleast u cud hv shown some more interest πŸ˜‰ wud have saved u only alot of time and energy on ur imp day na…

BTW…which books did u finish reading??

          1. The assumption here is that I would be a bothered if the clothes do not fit well. I am not. Not substantially at least. πŸ™‚

Read Ken Follett’s ‘Jackdaws’ , another thriller called ‘overkill’ and another I do not remember. Bought 7-8 thriller/spy novels from a second-hand book shop in Connaught Place. Gotta finish them before reality interferes. πŸ™‚

        2. πŸ˜€ You both are hilarious and cute! Think it must be fun to remember it and have good laugh πŸ™‚ And 3 novels in a week thats fast!

          1. Hmmm… some of my friends would say that I am extremely slow. There was a time when we used to finish novels such as ‘Mila 18’ or ‘Atlas Shrugged’ in a single-day sitting. :smug: :smug:

            1. do u read thru each pg?? coz i’ve heard that many ppl who are hard-core readers at times even skip pages…though I love reading but I can never finish a book soo fast…n atlas shrugged in 1 day!!!!!!!! everytime I look at tht book I feel I’ll get specs jus reading it….wht with those tiny winy letters

                1. LOL..that was a very hilarious wedding experience..

Btw, I guess you “mechanical” guys have so many traits in common..Atleast some of you.

I call my hubby “Scanner”, coz he scans books and any time later..maybe days or months, he will can quote anything from any page..sigh.

On the contrary, I relish my reads minute by minute as if it is a sort of meditation.

                2. Nice to know you are a book addict too :)… Though I will not be able to compete with you for finishing a book in a day.

        3. all techies are alike or what sanjeev
my hubby would say the same thing i feel
we girls buy stuff for kick …..after we shop we feel on top of the world

        1. Me too with you Rati…and then you find out about the pets…sighhh..life is difficult 😐 You had to post this today…have to work..have to work…and I am so tempted I keep coming and peeping here!!

          1. yeah. I have shifted that pet cockroach from room to bathroom now. And now i have learnt to scare it also. So life seems a little easier now. 😐

    1. really rati, i dont think it was ur fault…. bt it is really very hilarious to even think tht the groom is running around the stores luking for his matching shoe.. :rotfl:
a memorable experience about a shoe.. heard long after the Cinderella story.. πŸ˜› πŸ˜€

  4. OMG! I got engaged last year. I am pretty okay at doing makeup so I told my mom I’ll do it myself. but my mom FORCED me to go to a salon. I told the girl to do super light makeup. no thopa thopi of white foundation et etc. she told me to close my eyes, just put my head back and relax. after 30 mins i opened my eyes and she had magically transformed me into micheal jackson. πŸ˜•

Thankfuly now both me and my mom know what to do for wedding!

    1. Michael Jackson seriously??? πŸ˜€ Reading the comments is turning out to be fun even though there people at work here wondering why I am smiling at the computer screen πŸ˜›

      1. you knw Vinitha….I think by now my ofc peeps r getting used to my laughing at the computer screen πŸ˜€ coz its not a rare thing w me now

  5. I am sorry to see the tables turn on you Rati…had no intensions. But, like I had mentioned earler…this is going to make everyone laugh for the rest of the day…
Talking of my experience, thankfully I had the makeup and hair do undercontrol as I was doing it myself…but can you image…I had to wear 1 and 1/2 sari thoroughout the 2nd half of my wedding…Usually before the pheras and mangalsutra ceremony the girl is to change into the sari her in-laws give her…since I was running to catch up with time, I was made to wear a 1/2 sari on the already worn sari…
I needed two people to hold me up after that… :dazed:

    1. ha ha ha ha….1/2 saree is hilarious. I had nothing of that sort to do. After the wedding I thought I wouldn’t cry but my mom started crying and I also started it then. πŸ˜› Sanjeev was trying to console me but the photographer just didn’t want to lose on my crying shots so he asked hubby to step aside. :rotfl:

And while coming back I was crying for 2 minutes and then I burst into a fit of laughter. We came back with the friends and were yelling ” yay!! shaadi ho gai”. :rotfl: :rotfl:

            1. No actually most of the junta on my wedding was sulking only because I was having a love marriage. But a few of us had loads of fun. And the excitement had no bounds. πŸ˜‰

              1. I think you and me have quiet a few things in common…I toltally do not understand why do people still sulk about love marriages… :-/

          1. Ohh God!! these wedding photographers are really some…they make u do all those weird poses and this one :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

            1. That too. I just couldn’t get the poses right becasue I ended up laughing every time he used to ask to me sharmoo and do all the jazz… :rotfl:

And when the lunch time came we were so tired and hungry that we started eating on our own.And the photographer was like “kya log hain apna apna kha rahe hain, ek doosere ko khilaaye. :rotfl: :rotfl:

              1. :rotfl: :rotfl:

We friends have had a good laugh over all this pose photography at all friends wedding!!!!! It is just too filmy n hilarious!!!!

    2. you knw guys….in certain castes of gujjus too the bride has to wear 1 1/2 sari….she wears one before the baraat arrives and alongwith the baraat comes another one which u are suppossed to wear from the pleats….the basic saree is white n red and the one above is red

        1. yeahh….and I personally really love observing all the rituals n traditions…each culture has different rituals but somewhere there is some similarity too πŸ™‚

  6. Hehehehe….my friend, she told me you should buy waterproof eyeliner…blah blah..and I went and bought it also. I didn’t have any crying spells though, and my hubby was like that was just your excuse to buy something new!!

        1. lol, at my wedding my husband and inlaws were crying during the blessing, at my place I was giggling and no one cried not even my mom, I think they were more than relieved that I was finally getting married πŸ˜€

awesome post btw, nice to read everyones experiences, Sanjeev with 2 left shoe was hilarious

  7. Poornima, same here. Infact sometimes if I luurvvve a book I’d read it even slowly. These days I religiously read only beauty related stuff. πŸ˜›

  8. Oh Yes OC Rati…it is fun only for others…def not for the bride n the groom πŸ™‚

But we still laugh whn we see some pics in the wedding albums…why do they try to be so creative!!

  9. In my life it was quite the opposite, I had a trial makeup and hair style done for my engagement and wedding, the parlor lady did a wonderful job for my engagement using mac cosmetics.. The only mistake i did that day was to take my sister-in-law with me to the parlor.
She started making comments abt my makeup not being gud and said that she would do a better job.I relented to her nagging( i will regret this the rest of my life)
So on the big day , i called to say that i will be doing only my hair.I had my hair style done at the parlor by the sour faced stylist who said that i will be regretting this decision when ever i open my album in the future.( her prediction came true)
She did an awful hair style, and on top of this my sister-in-law shocked me by applying a foundation 3 shades darker than my complexion, i looked like i had just escaped from a building which caught fire. I was nearly in tears, i washed my face again , had her apply makeup again, but she again did a bad job, all this with just 15 minutes for my wedding to start. Sigh ….

    1. Awww!!! you know ideally a lighter shade of foundation should be applied because makeup has to stay on for hours and hours. With all the ceremonies , heat etc the makeup tends to oxidize. So after a while you anyway look a little darker / closer to your skin tone.

So sorry you had such an experience. πŸ™

    1. yup coz of the heat especially. So initially the foundation may look a little lighter while it is still fresh but after 2-3 hours it kind of oxidizes and comes to your own / closer to your own colour.

  10. will read all the comments… very intersting… di just got married…. I actually want to write a post about the experiences… (2 weddings – bengali and punjabi)!!

spoiler: ‘I’ had to do her eye makeup for the punjabi wedding!!!!!!!!! :((((

  11. i had a bengali wedding
my sis had a gurudwara wedding
and the number of feraa was different so we really enjoy that fact
it was not seven for either πŸ˜• (as long as i can remember)

  12. My wedding day was hilarious…Its only coz of that fat lady :pissedoff: :pissedoff: applying some stupid make up on my face …i was looking looking stupid… so i had to remove my make up then applied a simple face powder onto my face…Ponds skin brightning talc worked like miracle      for me at this crucial moment, coz i just had 5 min to remove that sstuuuuupid make and apply powder …

hey friends, i suggest that everybody should always go for a trial make up before your wedding day…

should catch up with the most popular beauty parlour like that of Lakme salon and bla bla…So best of luck girls  ..Love you all.. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰
