From today onwards, I am starting a series called “Ask IMBB Gang”. A lot of makeup and beauty queries are coming these days. Since most of my times goes on the blog and other related things, a lot of these queries are going unanswered. 
I thought I would put these queries on the blog and we all can give our suggestions, help the readers, and learn in the process. Also, I feel that our collective suggestions would add more value than it would if it was only me replying to and recommending things. I would not be disclosing the names of the readers for privacy purposes. Hope that’s fair. 
Here is your first query
This is S here.I have just joined in to a new job and I am a bit dark skinned. I have a good dressing sense but no sense of make up. Can you please help me to 2 select a good lip stick and gloss. I am a bit dark skinned so pinks are a big no no and even dark shades don suit me. Please Help.

Hi S…I love dark skin and you should be proud of your dark skin as its best for make-up. In my opinion, you should try dull pink dull brown and coral red shades on your lips…i hope these shades will be perfect for your skin.thank you

As for S’s query….I think she should opt for brown lipstick, a shade which would be MLBB for her….She Should be able to find the right shade in the maybelline color sensational lipsticks
Stick to warmer shades of lipsticks that have a little brown undertone to them and top it up with a soft gloss. You may also pick up shades of corals.

the good one that comes to my mind now is sugarbloom from lakme classics
its smooth creamy light warm brown….
also try BARE by colorbar
and again for very mild frost try wendell rodricks tropical island 123 from lakme

Loreal Naturals/Color Riche – Aishwarya beige is I think a good colour – there’s another one Silk..many ppl seem to like that too. I think Rati is right, warmer colours will be best. Probably the pinks you tried were blue-pinks – dont know what they are actually called, but they tend to suit lighter skins better. And maybe you should try dab-dab for applying lipsticks..that gives a hint of colour that looks better than the usual way of applying.

start with a sheer plum shade and graduate to mild corals. pinks WILL look good, just avoid those that have lilac tones. fuchsia will look HOT, just have the confidence to carry it! and who can forget red? there’s a red out there for everyone. and then there are nudes. don’t think they’ll not look good on you!

Hi S,
You could try browns with a hint of pink undertone to it and plums. I have read somewhere that the inside of one’s lips is the color that would best suit a person when searching for a nude lipstick. Some shades are:
Revlon colorburst lipstick in rosy nude
Maybelline color sensational lipstick in Autumn Rush and tinted taupe, yummy plummy .
Try Maybelline Chocolate Temptation
Colorbar Velvet mattes- Irish Rose for play, Twig for Work.
There is quite love-hate that goes on with Lakme 9-5, but if it suits you, get Cappuccino.
Then, again lipsticks are good if you have pigmented or two toned lips. (Like dark corners/ring like darkness around lips etc.)
If you don’t have much pigmented lips, try glosses. You can hardly go wrong with gloss shades as they are quite sheer. Start with Maybelline Watershine and loreal Glam Shine.

Again your exact skin tone will decide what looks great on you. I am also quite dark skinned, you can check me out anywhere on IMBB. But I can carry most bold, shades, Including Fuchsia and corals.
So don’t be afraid of trying.
Also, you are sceptical about using pinks, try 716 from Loreal its a soft beige pink
also,you can try some of these from MAC, these are all in Lusture-Texture so they are all very easy to wear colors :-)

:-) if I have to say, then these shades would be few of my top picks :-D Simply
I just have 3 mac lipsticks and out of them it’s only one that I use whole heartedly- MAC Cosmo. I lurvve that shade. I love how it looks on me.
With so many lippies at MAC I do want recos and heer I have got a lovely list.Will note it down and check these.
