10 Golden Rules to Weight Loss

This post is more about motivating myself. I have been feeling a bit lazy about my fitness of late so I thought I’d pen down all the things that have kept me going this past one year. Hope this helps some of you and most importantly, hope this helps me as well. πŸ™‚

I have lost more than 10 kgs in past one year and have gone down many inches. I didn’t do anything fancy except the following things . So here you go! πŸ™‚

10 Golden Rules

1. Love your Body : I have gone through phases where I would just hold the flesh of my thighs or stomach and get depressed. Something you have to realize is that your body is the most precious thing you have. The more you take care of it, the longer you would be able to reap benefits out of it. My mother-in-law is around 65. She travels 10 months out of 12. And so that she could travel, she eats healthy, does yoga every single day and gets her physiothereapies on time. She loves herself , trust me. πŸ˜› Β So love your body and it would love you back. Take care of it rather than abusing it.

2. Β Eat less outside : I hate cooking but I love eating… and especially eating outside. I mean the kinds that I can dine outside 7 days a week. I could become aΒ restaurantΒ reviewer for all you know. πŸ˜› This was the biggest challenge I faced this past year. I had to control myself from eating out from 4-5 times a week (not counting the muffin and coffee rounds at the nearby market) to may be once or twice. I started eating the regular ghar ka khana and that started showing the most on my body. As they say ‘ moderation is the key’ and guess, it worked.

3. Ask someone to help you with the weight loss : I just asked Sanjeev to stop me whenever he sees me munching chips, or remind me not to eat muffins every second day or remind me to go for my walks. Trust me , it helps.

4. Stop listening to people : I personally feel everyone has their own goals about their weight loss. Someone wants to reach size zero and someone is happy to reach size 10 only. During your weight loss, especially when you are doing your portion controls or ‘trying’ to eat healthy , you would come across people who’d tell you things such as ‘ oh! now you have lost enough weight, stop now okay’ or ‘ are you going to eat only this much?’ even ‘ weight loss is making you look older’ . Just ignore such people, honestly. In such cases just smile and say ‘ this much food would be enough for me’ Β or give them some gyaan on how good your skin looks now because of your healthy lifestyle and they should take some tips from you πŸ˜› . :))

5. Find out what work out works for you : You cannot lose weight without moving your butt. Trust me, you cannot. As I told you i was desperate initially so I wanted to lose weight asap. I thought running was the best thing to do so I started running. I injured my knee twice and has to spend time getting it fixed at a physiotherapist. I consulted someone and they told me that because of my weight , my knees were not able to take the pressure of running so I should walk and take things slowly. I just walked for many months and slowly started incorporating running in my routine. I mean rather than doing something desperate and getting yourself hurt is foolishness. So, find something what works for you- it could be dance, it could be brisk walking, running , kick boxing or whatever. Just figure out for yourself.

6. Don’t stop dressing up : I don’t know how men react to weight gain but women are really emotional. They’d start wearing huge clothes, stop dressing up, start buying clothes bigger than their actual size. Don’t do that. Wear your size. Dress up for yourself and for people who love you and want to see you happy. This was something that I never stopped doing. I love dressing up and you should too. It just keeps you happy and keeps the world around you a better place. πŸ™‚

7. Don’t Starve : You have to nourish you body. I mean you would only be inviting wrinkles, acne, stretch marks and lots of deficiencies if you go for crash diets. Make smart choices – nuts instead of chips, a milk based sweet instead of milk chocolates, whole wheat instead of maida. I am not too qualified to say much on that but guess go back to your basics. I call up my mom and ask about the recipes for the things she used to cook for me. It’s basically common sense. πŸ™‚

8 : On day to day basis measure how many inches you have lost than how much weight you have lost. I am telling you, this is super motivating. Inches go faster than your weight. That inches loss keeps you going. πŸ˜€

9. Don’t give up : Weight loss not only is a huge confidence booster, it is very very healthy. You feel good and lighter. On the day when you don’t want to follow your diet or work out, just out to the park, take a walk for 15-20 minutes. That would keep you going. That little walk would keep you sorted both physically and mentally. πŸ™‚

10. Read tons of articles on weight loss on IMBB HERE. Very helpful. πŸ˜‰

Now, I feel good!! :))

I would also like to thank all IMBBians for writing sweet comments on every single post I ever did. It really helped. Really!! :))

        1. i so agree with hostel food. πŸ™ i eat out almost everyday because of the bad food in hostel and when i go home, i rarely eat outside.

  1. Great Post Rati !
I have put on a lot of weight in last 6 months, due to change in location, new job and responsibilities, late working hours, least physical work and survival on outside food. But now I am trying to give time to my body, snacking on fruits, walking, getting up earlier than before, trying to cook my meals myself.
I am hoping this would work in the long run. This article is a great motivation.

    Cheers,

  10. Ratiii, how are you babe? So good to be back on IMBB!
You have no idea how timely this article is…I have started feeling slightly heavier recently, although when I measured my inches they are still the same. So, this article was immensely helpful and inspiring! I think the best part about this post is these are all very easy things to do if you are motivated enough…and one more thing – you looked gorgeous before and you look even more gorgeous now! This has to be one of your best posts ever! I love the dress up part πŸ˜€
    Hugsssssss!

  11. Wow!! Amazing!!!
The best thing about this article is it made me accept my body as it is.. I actually started hating it coz of weight gain.. I m super motivated and now positively gonna try for weight loss!!
U are all-rounder!! U can be a counseller too!!! kudos!!!

  12. I actually needed this, have become a lazy bum lately…!!!! this post and your transformation is so motivating. trust me ..:) ur body looks quite toned now and the skin which ws so guddiee looks besht besht now … πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    1. Komal, i think we all go through such phases. I have been a counsellor for many years. πŸ˜€ Thanks :))

Thank you soo much reema. You guys are really motivating. :-*

  13. Great tips…best is they are workable if we really want to work on our weight ! liked it that you followed the slow n steady approach than quick fixes..which eventually come back in worst tha earlier way !

  14. thanks a tonn Rati.. i put on 5 kgs in last 6 months.. i ws afraid if i gt aur zyada mota and used to cry too.. bt nw frm 2day only i’l start folowng ur recomnded tips .. thanks πŸ™‚

  15. lovely post..must have started as a self motivating write up for urself but trust me u ended up motivating many of us…thankie πŸ™‚

    1. yeah maha. I has been quite slow for me but I am glad i could do it. :))

thanks plabita. Guess comments from all of you have motivated me as well. :))

  16. Rati…..this post is so wonderful. I read it over and got inspired again πŸ™‚ Of course, you know how you pushed me to take evening walks and asked me to keep an alarm on the mobile so that I could walk for a specified time rather than walking for 5 or 10 minutes. I have started losing weight, though i have not set down a target of how much I want to lose. I am not round like a football, so there is not urgency, but the daily walk is one habit you have given me that not only helps me lose weight but also through it, I get some “me” time. THANK YOU Rati, and its a ‘BIG’ THANK YOU :*

  17. lovely read rati…u must have started it as a self motivating write up for urself but trust me u ended up motivating many like me..thankie πŸ™‚

  18. Right post at the right time for me…I have put on weight for unknown reasons. I rarely eat out and I do not have a sweet tooth, guess its my dose of non veg…. πŸ™

    1. thanks plabita. I feel good that I wrote this. Guess time for me to get back to routine again. :))

rashmita, I dont know much about non veg diets but guess eating lean meats and especially fish is quite good for the body. πŸ™‚

  19. Thanks for writing this post Rati … u will inspire so many women out there who are depressed because of their weight and body shape. i was always skinny in college bt when i started working life changed and in 2010 i was diagnosed with hyperthyroid, it makes u put on weight like nobody’s business… i have been struggling since abt weight loss with only failure… and all those sick people i have met who think that one can only be fat by eating really irritate me to the core….
i am still at it eat healthy and rarely eat from outside, walk every single day and try to follow a healthy lifestyle…. and most of all i don’t let anyone’s comments affect me coz the first rule is u need to accept however u are and give a damn to the world …. and i knw it will work as u said never give up.. that’s all the inspiration I needed…. πŸ™‚ (i’m surely gonna bookmark this page and share wid my friends)

    1. Hi Nats, loved reading your comment. Walking has made a lot of difference to me. I had gained about 10 to 12 kg post pregnancy and though that’s not much to lose, because of my short height, it seems a lot to me πŸ™ Keep going girl…..:*

      1. Thanks jomol… women have so many probs hai na… it ws very emotional fr me to write all this coz i don’t share all this with anyone..yes i am walking and will loose weight.. just like u i dnt have a target… jst going fr it every single day πŸ™‚

    2. awww nats!! I know people get overweight because of hyperthyroid. I can only wish that you get better soon. I met one girl at the gym 2 years back . She had that problem but she mentioned that she could get rid of her weight with proper exercise and diet. I am sure you would too and it is very important to embrace yourself. If you are not happy yourself, you would only spread unhappiness around. And that’s not how one should be. your comment was really inspiring for me as well. Don’t let negative comments affect you ever. Just keep going and things would work for you. *tighthugs* πŸ™‚

      1. yes Rati i have been in that negative phase fr a long time n still sometimes feel so sad that i cnt wear clothes that are normal sized bt eventually have learnt my lessons and i have accepted myself as I am .. i am happy that i inspired u in some way…. hyperthyroidism is a life long thing… so i have to accept it and work towards a healthy life ahead… that’s all I can do…
        πŸ™‚

  20. I usually just visit the website and go back. but today I had to stop and Write that I freaking love this website and this article is so well written and so well put. I totally agree with “love your body” truly motivational…thanks πŸ™‚

    Xoxo
    Rakhi

  21. WOW Rati!!! I LOVEEEEEEDDDDD this post! Whenever I see someone losing weight the healthy way, I get super excited πŸ˜€ Point 4, 5 and 7 of the above are very very important na. πŸ˜€
I am a fitness freak. I love every kinda workouts… And I loveee ghar ka khaana. I must say, reading some fitness/nutrition books, and Nidhi’s blog have inspired me to keep up my routine. πŸ™‚
Rati, u look hot now babe. Do keep up the whole thing u’ve been doing!
And may I make a small suggestion? Why dont u put up posts on Faux Pas abt what workout u r currently loving??? That’ll motivate all of us too n u’ll also enjoy the whole trying-out-new-workouts thing!! Do think abt it na πŸ™‚

    1. ramya, the only work out i do is run or brisk walk. πŸ˜› But you would have to wait a bit of something similar. πŸ™‚ Nidhi is very motivating. She keeps your momentum up all the time. πŸ˜€

      Thank you sooooo much. :-*

  22. Hi Rati Ji,

The article is really very motivating. From 2010-2011, i lost about 12 kgs (Though, it did not showed that much in my body). Now this year i got job, and had to stopped moving frequently, not eating moderately etc. so gained again. Last June, i started a Diet plan, followed them, again tone a Little bit and now? I am all over a Drum again.

I will try your suggestion now. I am also going to join a gym next month. Hope it does wonder/

  23. Losing 10 kgs by following simple rules is surely an ACHIEVEMENT..*applause*
I am always into ‘Health & Fitness’ & try to maintain as much as I can. Your tips gonna help me for sure..as I am in perpetual-I-wanna-lose-5-kgs-mode.. πŸ˜›

      1. Ati Sundari…1st & Foremost You gotta be ‘CONSISTENT’…Its like walking a tightrope…thoda bhi idhar udhar & tyres will be inflated again..espl when a person like me who is blessed with ‘healthy’ genes & not-so-healthy-taste-buds & having a lzy b*m.. πŸ˜›

I try to walk & weight training & Kapalbhati & Floor xercise..watever & whenever it is possible & I swaer by WALK. Music in the ears & walk outdoors is sheer bliss for me..Highly rejuvenating & weight loss is Sone pe Suhaga.. πŸ˜€ But this whole year due to several reasons culdn’t follw my fitness regimen..so focussed more on diet & its helping me a lot.. πŸ™‚ I cant stay hungry..& weekends me to Fries & Icecream & Pizzas & whenever I bake anything for my Kiddoo..I gotta indulge too..but for most of the days I am into ‘SMART’ eating. I stuff my fridge with loads of fruits & I make sprouts on every Monday which last for whole week. Around 6/7 pm I have milk..then one fruit/sprouts..so by the dinner time I am almost full & cant eat much & its helping me a lot as at my age Metabolism becomes total sluggish & I need to work more for mainatining/losing..than you 1/2/3 decades younger girls.. πŸ˜€

In a Nutshell..If you walk for an hour & fill yourself with 2/3 glasses of milk & 2/3 fruits & sprouts every day..it wont leave much space for Carbs & other stuff & Keep tight watch on your weight/inches..thoda bhi idhar udhar..Take out your whip & be ruthless.. πŸ™‚

        1. Ha ha …..loved reading your tippani Shilpa. I am also cheating during dinner time, trying to eat less or skipping dinner altogether by eating a bit of heavy fruit like papaya….that is helping me to sleep with a happy tummy πŸ™‚

  24. after my marriage this year i have gained alot of weight and i dont find my old clothes are of any use to me. somehow i am (was) depressed and really desperate to lose weight by coming diwali. and as you have also mentioned i did hurt myself i got muscle pulling and now bed rest….Dr said me to take things step by step…but it made me more demotivated and stressed…now after going though this article i hope once again i will start my routine with a fresh and healthy start.

    1. divya, it’s like been there and done that. That is why now also I dont run A LOT and rather walk. Because the day i hurt my knee again, i wont be able to work out for next 10 days. πŸ™ So guess take it slowly and give yourself some time. It’s like pregnancy. you gain for good 9 months, you would have to give equal time to your body to lose it. πŸ˜€

      Good luck! πŸ™‚

  25. Firstly – CONGRATULATIONS!!!!on your weight loss. you look fabulous. Agree with everything you said and I think the most important thing is to follow through consistently with it. For a lot of people its starting trouble and for some while they they dont have a prolem starting, that break inbetween messes it up and getting back to it becomes difficult. so its about making a plan, being realistic and sticking to your plan. Like you said Rati – you have to get off your butt else it simply not happen otherwsie and the older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight inspite of doing the same amt so its good to get into that fitness routine right away and keep up with it.

  26. wooahh!! absolutely stunning and motivating..and i am with u on everything that you pointed out..even the phases of wearing oversized clothes (personal experience)..
i admire your self control Rati..

  27. I am also struggling with my bulge these days rati.. For me only crash dieting works. i know it is not healthy way to loose weight but my body respond only when i totally restrict my meals…though i face headache, weakness issues after that but results also.. pls help what to do. i also want to loose 10 kgs approx.

    1. Neha……please follow the steps given in the post. Additionally, don’t eat high carb food after 8 PM because the body mechanism becomes slow during the night hours. Also, if you can avoid rice completely for a few days, you would be able to see a drastic change. Crash dieting is never healthy, it will harm your body. When you feel hunger pangs, try to eat fruits or fresh juices at frequent intervals πŸ™‚

      1. neha, I agree with whatever Jomol has written and my personal suggestion would be that you consult a dietician. Sometimes we just have to take the expert’s advice. πŸ™‚

        1. thanks jomol and rati.. initially when i join imbb then i use to read only reviews and articles but gradually i am feeling an emotional bond with all of you people and now it is becoming my absolute necessity to visit IMBB

Jomol my hubby comes late from the offc and we use to have dinner together. i think i have to change this routine of mine but one the other hand i am not liking eating without him…

  28. Ratiii..

I dont know how to thank you for writing this article. It is one of the sweetest and the most inspiring article I have read on weight loss and I have read LOT of them! This article instantly made connection with me and I am sure it would connect with many thousands of women here. Mostly because we all are so much in awe of you.. and when you tell us that you have lost weight.. it sounds.. it is possible.

And I really liked what you said about dont stop dressing up! I guess I did that and it gave me more stress.

I promise I am going to stick by your advice and will continue to groom myself very well. Who knows I send an OOTD soon..? πŸ˜‰ hihihi..

Thanks a lot again… such a warm hug to you!

    1. I am so glad surabhi. I guess the motivation comes form both the sides. IMBB has given some of the awesome people around who keep motivating me to go ahead and if i could give something in return , it’s totally my pleasure. πŸ™‚

I hope you do dress up more and since you are shifting to delhi, I guess it would give you a ton of opportunities to dress up. :))

      *hugs* and thanks πŸ™‚

  29. Great Article ….
Person’s body image impacts his or her self-esteem.
overweight people do feel de-motivated and helpless, this was happend to one of my friend i adviced her to take expert’s advice, do lil exercise at home, and i swear by ghar ka desi khana.
The main thing is jus love ur body, this will enhance self-esteem…
After a long time i read such inspiring article….
    Good Job…

  30. i takes a lot of courage to talk abt oneself. Its inspiring tht u hve put in about yourself. It takes lots of strength to put in pics of before and after. Very inspiring. I think u shld start a section on weight loss where all of us can give weekly updates on exercising and weight lost. and diet. Thanks

      1. actually for me deepa, it was not a challenge to put before and after pics. I was always infront of you guys. πŸ˜€ Let me think about it. :)) Thanks πŸ™‚

  31. Hey Rati

Such an inspiration. These write ups always motivate me. I am not a gym kind of girl, but from past 7-8 months i always used to walk and I made a habit of brisk walk when i attend a call etc. and now ppl started complementing me πŸ™‚ . One thing I will Swear by is “Stop or eat less OUTSIDE”

    πŸ™‚

  32. wow Rati..this is so motivating..
I’m tryin hard to loose the weight i gained during my preggy days and I wrkout regularly..i know loosing weight is not a easy task.Requires determination..and I can understand the efforts you should have put in to loose 10kgs..Great! πŸ™‚
i would even suggest tat we note down what we eat in a day .this will help us have a control on what we eat..

  33. I love this post! It’s so honest and encouraging and I am so glad that it doesn’t sound condescending. You know, most of the weight loss stuff that you read treats the (presumably) fat reader as if she were Ajmal Kasab and must be publicly flogged. πŸ˜›

Although I don’t require weight loss, I still think all your rules apply to anyone who wants to simply stay healthy. I love that rule about not listening to people. One reason why I stay slim (besides the atrociously stubborn skinny genes that I have inherited) is because I eat regular “ghar ka khana” and don’t pig myself out every day (my only vice is blue Lay’s :P), and I’m always being told in varying degrees of snideness how I don’t need to lose weight and all. People will always hate you for doing something that they don’t have the guts to do themselves and will try to pull you down. The best thing is to just imagine them being Avada Kedavra-ed by Lord Voldy and keep smiling. πŸ˜›

You’re totally inspirational. Keep with the awesome new health resolve. And by the way, despite your ultra glam avatar in the picture on the right, I still think the left picture is very cute. πŸ˜€

    1. I wrote such a heartfelt comment and I was rudely thrown into moderation. 😐 My heart has broken and somewhere, there is a high pitched violin being played which emphasises the pathos of the situation. 😐

      1. awww JW! I have complete punjabi genes with a major sweet tooth. Imagine the tough luck. Even water works like a ghee sometimes. πŸ˜› loll!! Oh! I never though I had to deal with such people as well. i mean everyone at my home was motivating but some people really got on me. I learnt my way of dealing with them. πŸ˜€

Doing Avada Kedavra would have been so much fun. hihihih

        thankooo :))

Oh! I have green lays. πŸ˜€

  34. Totaly agree with all your rule… I personally have lost 20 kilos and I did it not to do it to show it to others… I did because I love me πŸ™‚ One of most important thing after loosing weight is mainiting it … Loving urself Keeps you going …

  35. I dont find my old clothes are of any use to me. somehow i am (was) depressed and really desperate to lose weight by coming diwali. and as you have also mentioned i did hurt myself i got Legament Tear between Knees, Due to that i gained lots of weight, and now bed rest & not to walk long distance not to stand a lot,….Dr said me to take things step by step…but it made me more demotivated and stressed…:(

    1. awww ria.I alos learnt this lesson the hard way. Hope you get well soon and are able to lose weight super soon. it is not impossible. Always remember that. *hugs* πŸ™‚

  36. I love you for doing this post.Period.

Just the other day I was showing my imbb style contest pics to my friends and they couldn’t believe it was me. Have put on 18kilos since. Trying and taking baby steps to being fit again, overall I have a good 20-22 kilos to lose. Dont know how I ll do it, but want to do it for sure. Was even planning on doing OOTDs here so that I stay motivated. The only good part – my cheeks have become chubbier and I look wayy too cute πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

    1. loll!! you know what’s the best part about you , you always stay happy and that’s how you should always. :))

Your baby steps would take you a long way naina. Mine were also baby steps only. Good luck. Mwwwahhhhh!!!

and you have always looked cute. :-*

    2. U are not alone naina.. be motivated and keep trying and i have a tip to give here. Keep ur old pair of jeans which doesnt fits u now. make it a routine to try it every week so that u find out whether u are taking enuf steps or not for the weight loss and it keeps u motivated.

      1. nehaaaa :* thanks for the encouragement πŸ™‚
I keep doing that, have singled out one denim, and one top(clingy, highneck kinds, jisme sab kuch dikhta hai πŸ˜› i mean all your curves :P) and keep trying them once in a while. Will do it every week now, to keep track. Thanks πŸ™‚

  37. very motivating post Rati… you are leading us all by example.
before my wedding I decided to loose some weight, I lost some 7KG is 3 month. Sounds too goo to be true. but after that I stopped working out and statred gaining weight in my proplem areas…
like you I too hate cooking, and husband dear is not into salads and all he needs Ghar ka khana aka maa ke haatho ka swaad everyday…. he used this trick that when ever i cooked any thing he praised me alot. and always motivated me to try new things with less oil and ghee and slowly i got somewhat used to cooking… homemede food is the best, because you know what in going inside.

I recenly started yoga and with that I follow the mantra of eating 5 small meals inplace of 3 big ones… I am yet to improve on my water intake, working on it. But I love my body this way light and healthy πŸ˜€

Best of luck to you with your weight loss… and to all the girls out there who are waiting for tomorrow to start working out ” tomorrow never comes, so bring out your running shoes and yoga mats and lets get stated πŸ™‚

    1. absolutely lovely comment sweta. πŸ™‚ You definitely need someone who could keep you motivated. and it’s so sweet of your hubby to do that. Same , you get used to of cooking. πŸ˜€

and i agree, tomorrow never comes. Good luck to you too. mwwwaaahh!!

  38. Rati.. Thank u soo much for this article.. U r such an inspiration for me in more ways than one.. I really needed this to get me going.. Last one year i have been putting on weight for health reasons.. N now this last few mths cos of the medication im on.. I have put on just four kilos due to the meds.. Bt have bloated up immensely esp on my face.. To the extent i look awefully ugly.. I hv been on portion control n mostly hv ghar ka khana.. Bt wht i needed ws motivation to get my butt moving n work out.. I have just been lacking on motivation.. Evn my old pics wud nt inspire me .. This goa trip has been an eye opener in many ways.. Making me realise hw badly im doing on my fitness too.. After going bak i have made a pact to work out seriously n get back to yoga n walking.. Hope it works.. Thanks once again for this article.. Just the right motivation at the right time… :* :*

    1. thanks ayushi. :))

aww pia, you dont look ugly. why do you say that? :(( Never even think like that. Always feel good about yourself and keep doing what you are meant to do. the results would eventually start coming in. and good luck with your yoga and walking. mwwwaahhh!! and you are soo pretty in so many more ways than looks. It shows through your lovely comments. I mean it. :))

  39. You are always inspiring Rati.. though i don’t need to lose weight (actually i need to gain some kilos πŸ˜› ), but still the post encouraged me to start working out again and include a healthy protein rich diet in my routine.. πŸ˜€

And yes i agree, Loving our body is the mantra!! *thumbs up*

  40. u inspired me rati!! everyday I think i will wake up early n go for walk but I just dont get up!!! it true to have someone with you for motivation… Can i suggest if we make an “Get Slim with IMBB” kind of section? I am sure many women will be benefited like me πŸ™‚ please do consider!

  41. Well Rati I do agree with you. All your above rules are really golden one. I also follow above things in one way or other specially Love your Body, Inches count, Stop listening to people and ask someone to help. And you know I am following these techs on me and my Hubby Dear πŸ™‚ .….. Razz ki baat “partiality” I got some wht LENIENT for me (very small) :; and for him I have close eye πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  42. I would like to add few tips … Drink 1 to 2 glass of warm water , one can add lemon or green tea bag … If we can do it in morning empty stomach that would be great as it cleanses the entire stomach .It really works . I do this , eat normal home cooked food , do some yoga and walks …Don’t eat straight away before sleeping , reduce the intake of white sugar in tea and coffee .. use little gur ( Jageri) or brown sugar …..I Reached 55 Kgs which is ideal weight for my height 5 feet 4 inches . I was 63 kg before …

  43. I agree on all points. But the point on dressing up everyday despite your weight is something I never read anywhere before. And its so so true Rati.
I was 84 kg in 2010 and had joined gym in 2011. With proper gym trainers and a good dietician (who didnt ask to starve but actually made a healthy diet plan which allowed to eat everything properly), I came down to 68 kg. and it was such a beautiful feeling to see myself so trimmed in the mirror.. that was when I started to dress up again after a long time and I felt beautful and healthy inside and outside… but its true…even when your have gained weight.. dressing up yourself makes you feel good and also motivates u to lose weight…

    1. ashu, so good to hear your story. sometimes when things go out of your way, it is always best to take guidance from the experts. :)) and yeah I do believe that dressing up and a bit of grooming keeps you happy. :))

  44. Hey Rati.. you were such an inspiration to me. I have reduced 10 kgs after my delivery. believe me i check my weight on the 1st of every month. i try to now maintain my wieght if not reduce it.. as you said have just got lazy and ignoring my food habits, ur post has inspired me to be back on track.. now.. thanks and loads of hugs

  45. Loved the post and i’m sure it must be great feeling to loose 10 kgs!!! I wish my time comes soon too….abhi tho caught up in health issues…so no loose or gain for me πŸ™ πŸ™

  46. as you can see i really need to loose sound weight and this help me.. mentally…. sometimes am on high other times i just neglect my health and then feel guilty if i want not able to fit in a lovely dress seen on curvy mane queens…. love your new pic!

  47. Hey !
I am a regular visitor of ur sites & fb pages. This is my first time im responding to something i like πŸ˜€ You know I am a Psychologist (Hypnotherapist) by profession, newly Married & Healthy (Not Fatty but still with Tummy fat & dimple chubby cheeks). I dont get time to work out, But I do take self help therapies & often remind myself- “Love Your Body Type & Dont force it to become Magazine Sexy”.
Very practical & Sensible Article. Kudos!
(i will try taking out time & writing more, for a girly gurl inside me) πŸ™‚

  48. I had put on a lot as had to sit and study for my CA exams last yr..I joined a gym in march..and lost 5-6 kgs by now..feel much much better πŸ™‚ currently doin the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred..still want 5-6 more to go..my problem areas are arms and back..very difficult to lose those πŸ™ And I so concentrate on arms during weight training too..but just doesnt work..or like very less difference..still working working..
Rati..do check out Jillian Michaels DVD and try it..difficult..but works πŸ™‚

  49. Rati chalo ek fat donation camp chalate hai… hihihihi !!!! ya fir those who wanna increase can take it in free from us… !!!! even i have a proper punju genes with sweet tooth, chubby cheeks and party freak… we guys just need reason to party, drink and dine.. hahaha !!! i toh think hum saas bhi lete hai toh weight badta hai… !!!

  50. very inspiring Rati πŸ™‚ bookmarked this page πŸ™‚
I am loosing some wt and every bit u said i really true πŸ™‚

  51. love this line” I don’t know how men react to weight gain but women are really emotional. ”
so true……..i really am emotional ….
    i too love dressing up…..
i do yoga and it makes me healthy both physically and mentally…i’ve lost around 5 kgs in 2 months…..

  52. I too am struggling with weighty issues but by God’s grace it has not affected at how I see myself. I still love dressing up and I know and feel good about who I basically am as a person just like you mentioned in your article :). BUT, for health reasons its NOT great to feel good about it in my case. Being a stay at home mom only adds to weight gain. So, taking one thing at a time is the best way as you put it. Setting achievable goals first will bring about motivation!! The rest will follow πŸ™‚

    1. good luck with your weight loss maria. Guess take out time to atleast go for a little walk to a near by park. :))

Bhawana, sounds really good. I hope I am also able to lose 5 kgs in 2 months. :))

Thanks nidhi, aditi and sukanya πŸ™‚

      1. Yup! For me waking up in the morning is the first hurdle that I’m aiming at. One step at a time like I said. Good night πŸ™‚

  53. very nice Rati.. thats amazing πŸ™‚ u knw even i followed all these rules.. not paying attention, gym and exercise and nice diet without starving. I lost around 23 kgs in a span of 7 months.. without much trouble but only determination πŸ™‚

I am sending the article to my best friend, she is able to lose a lot a weight but then she gains it back again..I guess its all about sticking to the rules

  62. I know I’m late and all to comment but this artice has really made my day πŸ™‚ I was having a nice healthy exercise/good diet lifestyle but the last 6-7 months I went off track. My hubby got sick and I lost perspective and all. this time when I visited India everyone gave me grief about my weight and this and that.
