Can Turmeric Remove Dark Spots?

For thousands of years, turmeric has been used extensively in beauty treatments in India. This bright, yellow-orange spice is not only used widely in Indian cooking, it is considered auspicious and used extensively for religious ceremonies. The world is now going crazy over this Asian spice and the West is using turmeric everywhere – be it for cooking, as turmeric latte, in soups, and even in homemade masks. But can turmeric remove dark spots?

Turmeric contains curcumin, a bioactive component. Curcumin has anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Turmeric adds glow to the skin and makes it radiant. It treats hyperpigmentation with regular use. Turmeric also delays ageing process and the best thing is that it kills acne-causing bacteria. Turmeric masks can also brighten and lighten skin tone. Turmeric works amazingly well to treat dark spots and patches. Combined with other potent skin lightening ingredients, it can work really fast to fade acne scars and dark spots. Interestingly, an extract from turmeric, called tetrahydrocurcumin, is now a main ingredient in dark spot clearing creams. In this post, we will show you different ways to use turmeric to get rid of dark spots and pigmentation.

Turmeric Masks to Dark Spots:
1. Turmeric with Lemon Juice: Lemon juice has natural skin bleaching properties and it lightens complexion. It also helps to reduce dark spots. Mix juice of one freshly-squeezed lemon with a pinch of turmeric and apply this paste on to the spots with the help of a cotton ball. Let it sit for 20 minutes and rinse off with warm water. Apply this mask daily for faster results.

2. Turmeric with Honey Mask: Honey is a anti-bacterial agent and it’s best to prevent and treat acne. This mask also slows down ageing. It also hydrates skin and improves complexion. Mix one tablespoon of raw/organic honey with a pinch of turmeric. You can apply this mask all over the face or just on dark spots. Wash it off after 20 minutes with lukewarm water. You can use this mask twice daily.

3. Turmeric with Sandalwood Powder and Milk: Sandalwood powder is antibacterial and fights acne-causing bacteria, it exfoliates skin, calms sunburnt skin, reduces tan, and reduces signs of ageing like fine lines and wrinkles. Milk contains Lactic acid which help reduce pigmentation and sandalwood powder brightens dull and dry skin skin, heals acne and relieve sunburn. Mix 1 tablespoon of sandalwood powder with 1-2 tablespoon of milk and a pinch of turmeric powder. Mix it well. Apply on affected areas or entire face. Let it stay for 20-30minutes. Wash this mask with lukewarm water. Use this mask everyday.

4. Turmeric with Yogurt and Almond Oil: Yogurt contains vitamins B12 and B2, along with lactic acid which greatly help in reducing dark spots. Yogurt is a good source of lactic acid and zinc which exfoliates the skin and moisturises also it encourages new cell growth. Almond oil contains vitamin E, retinol, and vitamin K. In other words almond oil is very healthy for the skin! These three ingredients makes it a powerful face mask against dark spots. To make this mask, mix one tablespoon of yogurt with 3-4 drops of almond oil and a pinch of turmeric. Mix it well, apply on dark spots. Let it stay for 20 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. Apply daily till you achieve desired results.
