How To Reduce Oil and Greasiness on Face: Ask IMBB

Ask IMBB Gang

Debosmitha Ghosh asks:

I have oily skin, especially on the nose part. I apply Lakme Absolute Foundation after sunscreen, but within 10 minutes I start sweating and immediately look greasy and dirty. Please kindly help me to choose perfect foundation and a face wash that can reduce this oil excretion.

  1. This weather is making my skin oilier.. so I carry maybelline clear glow compact with me. but even i would want to know the answer to this question because i think this over secretion of oil is breaking me out *waaa* *waaa* *waaa* *waaa* *headbang*

  2. Well, i suggest rub icecubes all over face after your Cleansing and toning part. wait for 2-3mins and apply moisturiser which is oil free. wait for few mins let it get absorbed into the skin. now apply sunscreen and then apply foundation and set it with compact/loose powder.

Carry oil blotting sheets and blot the excessive oil. this will prevent your makeup from getting spoiled as well give you matte look once the oil is taken up by blotting sheet.
    hope i’ve helped 🙂

  3. Apart from Foundation and face wash, you need to look at 2 other products – your moisturiser and your primer.

For face wash, try Neutrogena Acne face wash. It contains salicylic acid which is great on reducing acne and oil.

And for moisturiser, look at a water based product like Cetaphil lotion. I used Cetaphil lotion (the one for body, not face) on my face and my complexion cleared drastically – I presume it was because the skin was hydrated but pores were not clogged. ANd since its water based, it does not make the skin look oily. You do have it available in India (in medical stores) but I felt that the formulation of the Indian one vs the imported one was a little heavier. Alternatively, If you can find a water based moisturizer with decent spf – that would be the best!

A primer can also help you cut down oil on your face. Loreal used to have a great one – BAse Magique – (worked for me) – but they discontinued it. If you want to try a similar product but not spend too much to begin with, try Bharat & Dorris’s T-zone mattifier – it works equally well as a primer. If your city doesn’t have their outlet, you can order it online from their site.

For Foundation, I find MAC Prolongwear to be fairly good – it resists melting due to oiliness. However, it does feel as if the foundation is sitting on top …. not sure if I am able to explain this. I am trying a new foundation currently, but its too soon to comment. You should see my review on it in another week or so..

    Hope this helps!!
