Yesterday was a super useless day. I wanted to do nothing . I was just checking out some of my old brushes and noticed that I used to paint the tips of my brushes. They looked cute and my new brushes looked so uncute. 😛 So while watching The Princess and The Frog movie, I decided to paint the tips of my eye makeup brushes.
I think most of you must be aware of this technique . But those of you are not, here’s how you do it.
You need:
- Nail paints – preferably opaque creamy ones. Sheer or shimmery ones might not show up too well.
- Tape – I use the doctor’s clinical tape. I just find it easier to use. YOu may also use a cello tape.
- Makeup brushes
Cut a small piece of tape. Leave an inch of space at the end of the brush and the stick a tape. Just make sure that you stick it evenly to get a perfect round.
Also do not roll the end of tape completely. Just leave the edge open. This will help you take off the tape easily. Like so.
Start painting the tip of the brush . You don’t have to do it neatly in the first coat. We would anyway be doing a second coat.
You may choose any colours. I painted some of my brushes pink as well. This nail paint was drying so it went way too uneven in the first coat.
Start placing the brushes on the edge of the table to let them dry. Like so.
Now after 15- 20 minutes, do the second coat.
I prefer painting my brushes at night and leave them overnight . This way the nail paint gets enough time to dry.
This is how the brush looks in morning. All dry and nicely coated.
Now the best part about using a paper based tape. You can tear it. Tear away the center part of the tape.
Like so. Now gently remove the rest of the tape.
And there you have your pretty brushes ready. 🙂
The little harsh edges would soften up within a few days. 🙂
You can cutify all your brushes. I’ll be painting the ends of my face brushes as well. 🙂 You can do another step as well. Take a toothpick, pick some nail polish and draw small dots on the ends . I am just too lazy . 😛 You can make make cute flowers, smileys or even paint the initials of your name. Use your creativity. 🙂
Makeup is such a colourful world. Why keep your brushes black and white. 😉

haven’t happened with me so far. Last I painted my brushes in the month of march and they havent chipped as yet. Use a good nail polish. 🙂

actually during my makeup classes all the girls in the batch used to have same makeup brushes. So they taught us how to do it. This way the brushes didn’t get mixed up. Now i just do it for fun. 🙂

aww that’s super cute. Ya brushes look so boring. I wish we had cute, colourful ones. Speaking of brushes, where do you get colorbar brushes Rati? Did you get yours at a stand-alone colorbar store? There are very few colorbar counters in Chennai & they never stock their brushes as it will be competing against the vega brushes that are always stocked!
yeah Pookhie, I got them at the select city walk store only. Most of their brushes are going out of stock now but I think they are pretty decent for beginners.
