How are you doing today? We are still planning New Year party! Moreover, our little girl is down with high fever and cough due to extremely fluctuating weather. We have started the honey-ginger-black pepper natural treatment to beat viral infection and flu. Let’s see how long we can resist this viral fever and flu. Anyway, I often distract myself from anxiety and exhaustion through online shopping and writing reviews. Needless to say, I am becoming my own Santa nowadays, shopping right in the middle of the night and then surprise myself with secret goodies every morning 😛 So, today’s product is a gorgeous lip product from Maybelline again. Let’s read further about Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Color in Captivating Carnation.
$6- $9 for 0.17 Fl Oz, price vary across stores.
Hyper-saturated color, ultra cushiony feel. The new hypnotic lip sensation. A trio of concentrates delivers the color of a lipstick, the cushiony care of a balm, and the glass shine of a gloss. Our exclusive smoothing angora brush delivers a polished , even application and smoothing sensation to lips.
This balmy glossy lip color comes in a plastic transparent tube packaging with doe-foot applicator. It does have a faint smell which is too subtle to bother. It seems an user friendly and travel-friendly product.
My Experience with Maybelline Color Elixir Captivating Carnation Lip Color:
I love red lips though lately I have been shopping for more pinks and now I own every possible shade of pink lipstick to compete with my red lips collection 😛 However, I am not a fan of Barbie pink shade as it does not compliment my pale skin tone unlike rosy pinks and carnations. That’s how I bought this shade “Captivating Carnation” to complete my pink collection.
Captivating Carnation seems a subtle warm carnation pink with glossy sheen and no shimmer. It looks pretty similar to “Rose Redefined” except for the fact that Rose Redefined is a shimmery glossy balm while Captivating Carnation is a creamy shimmer-free shade. Moreover, Carnation Pink gives a wearable glossy finish in one swipe which stays put for good 3-4 hours with no sticky feel at all. While we can achieve medium coverage in 2-3 swipes with wear time of as long as 6 hours maximum. However, it tends to settle into the corner of the lips and looks slightly uneven upon layering which needs to be taken care of.
We can use lip liner or lip primer beneath this glossy balm rather than layering it on and messing it up. I usually like to wear it with one swipe for that natural flush of carnation pink hue and for plumped up juicy lips. I am quite happy with the texture and quality of glossy balm which adheres and layers effortlessly on normal lips without settling into dry parched skin and/or accentuating any further issues. My lips feel plumped up and juicy for good 4-6 hours without causing any irritation. Even during these wintery days, I don’t feel the need to use a lip balm after removing this glossy balm for around 2-3 hours, which is more than enough to prove its effectiveness as a gloss-cum-lip balm. The only issue is that like other balms, it’s quite tricky for pigmented lips. It may conceal light or mild flaws but it is not suitable for dark pigmented lips at all. I have a black spot on my left lip and I can see it even through layers of this gloss. Thankfully, people see it as beauty spot 😛
Overall, I feel all can try it except for beauties with pigmented lips. I might get it again as I am starting to love subtle and glossy lips nowadays over deeper ones.
Let’s sum up pros and cons:
Pros of Maybelline Color Elixir Captivating Carnation Lip Color:
- A subtle yet warm-toned carnation pink with shimmer free, creamy glossy finish on lips.
- Gives sheer-translucent glossy finish with a hint of pink in just one swipe which works well for non-pigmented lips.
- Glides effortlessly on normal lips without settling into the dry patches.
- Can be layered on for buildable medium color payoff with plumped up finish in 2-3 swipes.
- Hydrates and nourishes lips very well.
- Manages to stay as long as 6 hours with multiple swipes while a single stroke lasts 3-4 hours which is pretty impressive.
- Does not leave any stain behind; just juicy, hydrated lips for a couple of hours.
- Takes care of mildly dry lips.
Cons of Maybelline Color Elixir Captivating Carnation Lip Color:
- Nay for deeply pigmented lips.
- Might not heal or treat overtly dry lips.
- Tends to give slightly uneven finish upon layering.
- Tends to transfer a lot.
Well, I like it despite the cons and I might get it again for its plumping and glossy effect on my lips. Moreover, it gives such youthful tint on my lips. For me, it is certainly 3.9/5!
