My Experience with Maybelline Color Elixir in Mandarin Rapture:
These new elixir lip products seem to be infused with hydrating properties of balm leaving behind glossy stain with soft sparkles, and they do feel really soft & balmy even post application. As the name says this particular “Mandarin rapture”, looks a true mandarin orange shade with lots of colorful sparkles. This is a true vibrant orange for me exactly what I always wanted. It will look fabulous on fair and medium skin tone beauties. The color pay off is sheer to slight medium on my lips which is exactly the same shade as I see in tube. In 2-3 swipes it gives a juicy orange sheen on my lips with colorful sparkles which does not look odd or frosty. Its one swipe gives a sparkling glossy creamy orange hue on lips which looks really pretty in day light. For night outs we need 2-3 swipes for that lavishing orange shimmery juicy shine which is not like a lipstick nor stain.
The best part is it neither bleeds nor settles in fine lines like any other Maybelline glosses, still it seems slight different from earlier glosses for the fact that it looks more like a sparkly creamy gloss on lips and it does leaves a stain behind which looks almost natural and equally graceful provided our lips are well scrubbed and hydrated. However, I feel it also works well on dry lips for it is also meant to condition lips but I love to wear them on clean moist lips for better color pay off and appearance.
I own few glosses from Maybelline’s earlier collection but I find this new elixir gloss much better in terms of packaging. These are slight smaller in size with small handy & leaf shaped doe foot applicator which is more manageable unlike other doe foot applicators, it is more creamy in spite of sparkles & has slight sheer pigmentation while their staying power is more or less similar to any other Maybelline High Shine Colorsensational glosses. I wonder why they always come up with shimmery glosses irrespective of shades & texture.
Though it is slight sticky like any gloss, it is not bothering. It does have slight vanilla sweet smell and taste which is Maybelline’s signature fragrance now I feel. The product stays put for 3-4 hours after heavy meals but then too my lips still look soft and pigmented. With occasional snacks & water sips it may stay on for as long as 6 hours. Over all I feel these new elixir are neither like lip stain nor like a lip color, just slightly pigmented gloss with translucent color pay off & creamy hydrating texture which are super amazing for winter nights.
Pros of Maybelline Color Elixir in Mandarin Rapture:
• A new formula which imparts glow like gloss, gives medium coverage on lips like any lipcolor and hydrating like a balm
• It does have sparkles which are very soft and not over powering
• Super creamy and juicy texture like a balmy gloss
• It imparts true orange glossy translucent hue in just one swipe
• In 2-3 swipes it gives sheer-medium color pay off depending on how deep or light our lips are pigmented
• Small doe foot applicator easily manageable for précised application
• It stays for good 5-6 hours with light meals & occasional water sips
• With heavy meals it does manage to stay 2-3 hours leaving behind a pretty orange sheen on lips which looks fine
• Vanilla scented glossy balm with slight sweet taste, which will not bother sensitive noses
• It seems better in texture and color pay off from other maybelline glosses
• Lips feel and appear hydrated & pigmented (though its translucent) as long as this glossy balm stays on lips
• Attractive and travel friendly packaging
Cons of Maybelline Color Elixir in Mandarin Rapture:
• It does transfers on cups and stains though still the gloss stays on lips
• Staying power could have been improved
• It does have sparkles though they are soft & mild
• This particular shade might not be good for pigmented lips for its sheer translucent color pay off
Apart from staying power I do not feel I need to skip these balmy glosses as long as I am able to get them for $6-$7. This shade has all great qualities to hit all age group preferably fair and medium skin tone beauties. Since I was slight skeptical for a full on orange lipcolor hence this sheer orange balmy gloss is great deal for me as I confidently wear it with my plum and black outfits. I will soon try few nudes and red from this series. Do try them gals, they are really great for ones who love pigmented lips but fear of dryness & deep loud stains, they will nourish lips with slight juicy creamy hue just apt for any occasion. Hope this helps!
