Skin Tone: Medium with yellow undertones
I am not a lip pencil person but really wanted to try this range. So, I ended up choosing the red shade because almost every red lipstick requires a red lip liner. Let’s read on to find out how it worked for me.
Draw out your pout with a stroke of rich color. Our Slide On Lip Pencil is now available in 14 all-new shades—from bold blue-green to deep n*de and pastel lilac. Like the much-loved eyeliner it’s named after, this waterproof lip pencil glides on super-smooth and delivers a highly pigmented Matte finish. Line your lips or fill ’em in for defined and enriched lip color using any of these 28 incredible shades.
My Experience with NYX Red Tape Slide On Lip Pencil:
This entire range of NYX lip pencils are color coded, which means you can spot and choose your desired shade easily. The pencil has a black cap which fits well. The body of the pencil has various product-related information, which is another good feature of the pencil. The pencil needs to be sharpened and I do not like this feature because I can never find my sharpeners when needed. Overall, the packaging is good enough and, in fact, sharpenable pencils are better because they are hygienic and offer better precision.
There are total 28 shades in this range and this one is called “Red Tape.” It is a beautiful true red shade and complements all of my red lipsticks. Somehow, it looks a little bright in the pictures, but it is a little deep. It enhances the shade and beauty of every lipstick without really tampering the shade or formula. Isn’t that awesome? I even paired this lip pencil with Sugar Holly Golightly and it created such a beautiful shade of pink on my lips! Since my skin has major yellow undertones, it ends up looking a light orangish on me, not sure why. This shade is a must-have as you can wear it on its own or pair with various red lipsticks. Plus, this shade suits all skin tones well and even hides pigmentation.
As the name suggests, this pencil offers a ‘slide on’ formula. The pencil, indeed, glides on the lips smoothly. I have not tried many lip pencil, but this one offers one of the best formulae. The pigmentation is superb and yet it doesn’t budge or transfer. It feels very comfortable and lightweight on the lips, especially if you have primed your lips well.
My lips are not too dry, hence they do not feel dry with this pencil on but it doesn’t moisturise the lips either. So, make sure you exfoliate and moisturise your lips well before application. Just one issue, though, the application is not always even.
Let’s talk about the staying power now. On my lips, this pencil stays put for more than 8 hours with normal food and drinks (if I avoid oily food, that is). On its own, it stays for 5-6 hours easily with food and drink and it makes my lipsticks stay in place for more than 8 hours, which is amazing. I hate touch-ups, especially of dark lip colors, and this one makes my job easy.
Please note in this lip swatch, I have just applied one light layer of this lip pencil.
