Shopping : Revlon, Maybelline, Body Shop, MAC makeup haul
Hi everyone! I’m new to writing for this blog and really can’t wait to share all my makeup stories with you all. So here we go 🙂
I recently went makeup shopping (like I usually do hehe). I was on the hunt for some lipsticks for everyday wear, but I didn’t want to shell out NZ$40 for a MAC lipstick. I also wanted to be adventurous and try out brands other than MAC! I have always been a fan of lighter shades when it comes to lipstick/gloss colours but lately, I have started liking plums and darker shades too. Since I didn’t have any, I decided to go and buy some . 🙂
I first went to the Revlon counter at this huge department store called Farmers (a very big chain of department stores here). I was quite pleasantly surprised to see the huge range of lipsticks and lipglosses that they have. The MUA was very helpful and helped me picked out shades that were like the ones I wanted. She showed me one shade that I particularly liked. It’s from Revlon’s range of ColorStay Liquid Lipsticks. That piqued my interest as I didn’t know what a liquid lipstick was! The formulation looks just like a lipgloss but it dries 30 seconds after application, leaving the same kind of finish on your lips that a lipstick would. The shade I got was shade #025, called Premier Plum. Here’s what it looks like:

I will probably review this product later. Can’t wait to try it out though! Here’s a swatch for you ladies to check out:

I wanted a clear gloss to put on top of the liquid lipstick that I had just bought and she showed me this shade from their range of Super Lustrous Lip gloss, called Shine City. It looks quite pink in the bottle but comes out quite sheer. I also wanted some other lipsticks for ever day use, and what do you know……they were selling a gift pack with three lipsticks and the lipgloss that I wanted! The lipsticks were from their Super Lustrous range and the shades were Ginger Rose, Softsilver Rose and Rum Raisin. Here’s what the pack looks like:

And the lipsticks by themselves:

Even though under this lighting, it seems as if Ginger Rose and Rum Raisin are quite similar, they are quite different when swatched (which you can see below):
Here are the swatches of the three lipsticks:

As you can see, Rum Raisin and Ginger Rose look quite different, and even though Softsilver Rose and Ginger Rose look quite similar when swatched, they’re actually quite different. Ginger Rose and Rum Raisin have a cream base so they are quite matte whereas Softsilver Rose has pearly tones to it, which makes it look somewhat frosty. I have only tried Rum Raisin and Ginger Rose from this collection and I absolutely LOVE these two shades. They are completely ideal for a day time look, and really suit Indian skin tones. I don’t want to reveal too much here as I want to review them later on 🙂
The gloss looks like this:

It’s completely clear when you put in on though. Here’s a swatch so you know what I mean:
As you can see, it’s got slight shimmer particles in it so that it gives just an extra pop to a lipstick colour. I wouldn’t suggest putting this over shimmery lipsticks however, as it might make it too shiny. But this one is perfect for me ☺
Now the best part! The day that I went to the store was the day that they were having a huge special on all Revlon foundations, they were selling ALL their foundations for $33. That’s quite cheap for a good foundation here and so I asked the MUA for help in selecting a suitable shade for me. She was really frank and told me that all their foundations were probably too light for me. I was surprised when she said that but then she told me she wouldn’t want me to buy something I won’t end up using. It was such a relief to have a non-pushy MUA who’s so honest!
By this time, I was on a lipstick buying craze, so I went and bought another lipstick from Maybelline. I tried several of their shades and finally decided to buy one called Party Pink. Even though the shade says Party Pink, it’s more a plummy purple.
This is the lipstick:

And here’s the swatch:

Can’t wait to try them on! I’m usually quite safe when it comes to lipstick colours, and this is the boldest I’ve ever gone.
Because I felt like spending lots of moolah that day, I didn’t finish my shopping expedition there. I went to the Body Shop to check out some of their products. I had to get their Tea Trea Cleansing night lotion (I had run out) and came across this other product called a Lip Scuff. It looks like a lipstick, but it’s actually like an exfoliating lipbalm. It’s shaped like a lipstick, and comes in a retractable tube, and all you have to do is swipe the product on your lips, and then wipe it off. I will most probably review this product later as I am quite excited about it! Here’s what it looks like:

In addition to all these things, I also got a Body Butter. I tried on some at the store and fell in love with it instantly. It smells d-i-v-i-n-e! It glided on to my skin and got soaked in instantly. I’m usually quite reserved when it comes to body butters/lotions (I have used Nivea Moisturising Body Lotion my whole life, can you believe it?) so I thought, why not? I think I will reserve it to use for special occasions ☺
This is what it looks like:

Since a trip to the mall is never complete without a peek at the MAC store, I went along and found these two amazing paint pots, including one I have been meaning to get for a very very very long time! I don’t quite know if they are available in India though. They are two shades of Paint Pot, called Rubenesque and Delft. Rubenesque is this peachy goldy shade which looks gorgeous and adds that extra oomph to satiny shades, and Delft is this gorgeous blue green shade. Both can be worn by themselves or underneath other eyeshadow colours. The advantage of these is that they can make eyeshadow colours ‘pop’ so much more.

This is what Rubenesque looks like:

This is what Delft looks like:

And just in case you start thinking that this is where it ends, I also went to the Smashbox makeup counter in the mall and bought some other stuff. But I’ll save that one for another time……..
Hope you liked my haul people. Let me know what you think . 🙂

And I loved the Softsilver Rose shade. And the rubanesque paint pot.
Great haul…
Om my god don’t buy the liquid lipstick, it’s terrible! I have worn it a couple of times since buying it and it dries your lips out so much! And it’s very very difficult to take off! It didn’t come off completely even after I’d had a shower 😯 😕
Rubenesque looks like peach aqua colour but I think rubenesque is more goldeny. I loved Delft. So gorgeous.
And welcome to IMBB. :))
Thank you 🙂
