Shu Uemura POREraser UV Under Base Mousse SPF35 PA+++ Review

Today’s review is on a primer from the prestigious brand, Shu Uemura. Though the brand is easily available in South East Asia and USA, it has still not come to India. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their cleansing oils! What is the only part you hate about applying makeup? For me, it used to be the effort which goes into removing it at the end of the day and ofcourse, cleaning the brushes and sponges. Since the time I started using Shu Uemura’s cleansing oil, I actually enjoy taking off my makeup at the end of the day. It’s been an absolute game-changer. So, I do like to try other stuff from the brand but the limited availability and the price point invariably deter me.

I received this POREraser primer as GWP when I purchased my last giant bottle of cleansing oil. Honestly, I didn’t even bother checking it for the first couple of months and when I finally did, let’s find out what happened.

Packaging:
The primer comes packaged in a pump aerosol can. It’s a basic white packaging – nothing fancy. This packaging may be the reason I didn’t try it sooner even though it was lying with me. The pump is easy to use. The product dispensed out is in the form of a lightweight foam. A gentle push of the nozzle can dispense a whole lot of product. A couple of attempts – and you will get the hang of it!

My Experience with Shu Uemura POREraser UV Under Base Mousse SPF35 PA+++ :

I have 2 issues with applying makeup – the layering – meaning moisturizer, sunscreen, primer and then base. With so many layers to go – one of them is sure to get missed – sometimes due to paucity of time and sometimes just because you forgot! And for a person with combination/oily skin, missing primer or sunscreen is definitely not a good thing.

The other issue I have is incorporating a sunscreen into my regime. Any sunscreen which doesn’t break me out costs a bomb. And even after paying that bomb, it will have some effect on my base makeup and the effect is not favorable. You will have some amount of slip and slide if not immediately then after 4-5 hours.

Solution: Shu Uemura POREraser UV Under Base Mousse!

• It is a primer with sunscreen in it. 1 step – 2 concerns sorted!
• SPF 35 PA +++ is a good amount of sun protection
• As discussed in the packaging segment, the product comes in an aerosol can and dispenses out as a foam. You need to shake the can and you do need a certain amount of control to get the right amount of product out. If not applied within 30 seconds, the foam starts dissipating and runs down your hand. The product is extremely watery.
• The best way to apply it is with a sponge, Shu Uemura recommends a specially designed sponge from their own house. Initially, I used my hands to apply it, but the product is too runny to give you half decent application. Applying with a brush would not make sense either, because it will just drink up half the product. It’s only when I used my sponge I understood that sponge is the only way to go – for even and streak-free coverage.

• The product comes in 2 variants – Beige to match medium skin tone and Pink to match light skintone.
• I use Beige –once applied, the product does seem to give a white cast. However, that settles fairly quickly.
• About the Poreraser bit, I don’t think it’s able to “erase my pores” totally. However, they do feel smaller.
• Once settled, the product gives a matte finish to the skin. Not a drying, lifeless matte, but more like a natural demi-matte.
• The best part about the product is that it really really works. The first time I used this product, I kind of applied it randomly – not as “let’s test the product”. So needless to say, I forgot all about it by end of day. When I checked my mirror by EOD, my makeup still looked fresh, my foundation had not turned orange! My first reaction upon seeing the mirror was, “Wow! Which foundation did I use today?” When I recollected that it was MAC Matchmaster, I was even more surprised, because MAC Matchmaster is one foundation which will surely turn orange. That really made me sit up and take notice. I hadn’t used a different setting powder, so it couldn’t be that. Finally, it clicked that the only thing I changed in my routine was this primer. This seemed too good to be true. So, I really went all out to actually test the product. Worked every time, with various foundations. No oxidation of the foundation!

Needless to say, I am in love with his product. I ordered 2 cans of this because I don’t want to ever be without this primer. It’s a God sent for my oily/combination skin. The product does contain alcohol, though it’s not high on the list of ingredients. However, if that is of any consequence to you, please do take note.

• Makes the makeup last the whole day and that too without oxidizing the foundation
• Keeps oiliness at bay

Cons of Shu Uemura POREraser UV Under Base Mousse SPF35 PA+++ :

• May not be ideal for flash photography

This one’s an absolute winner! The fact that I can apply sunscreen and primer at one go and get benefits of both, plus have my face oil-free and makeup intact till EOD – what else do I want from a primer! The more I am trying this brand, the more I am falling in love with it! Shu Uemura routinely does special limited edition packaging for their products in collaboration with different artists. Love the concept. And I would love to have an LE packaging cleansing oil and this base mousse.
