The Body Shop Rainforest Shine Shampoo Review

The Body Shop Rainforest Shine ShampooThe Body Shop is a brand I have been using for quite a few years now. I like all its bath and bodycare products as I feel they let me translate my idea of a luxurious bath into reality. Apart from their fragrances, lotions and body butters, I have also been loyally using products from their haircare range for over a year now. I have to admit that my hair has vastly improved in terms of both texture and strength since the time I gave up on all other haircare brands and decided to stick only to The Boy Shop.  TheBody Shop  Rainforest Hair Care range was launched a couple of months ago and I do intend to try more products from this line very soon as this shampoo of mine is almost over.

Price and Quantity: Rs. 495 for 250 ml
Shelf  Life: 3 years from the date of manufacturing
Recommended Hair Type: For normal to dry hair
What it claims: Employs a trio of superb conditioning oils—organic pracaxi, cameline seed and Community Fair Trade organic olive oil—to effectively protect shine and help you hair look gorgeously glossy. It contains no silicones, no sulphates, no colourants and no parabens.

The good things about The Body Shop Rainforest Shine Shampoo:

● Yes, my hair does shine each time I use it.
● It does not dry out my hair at all even without the application of a conditioner post my head bath.
● My hair feels squeaky clean and soft
● It is a gel-based shampoo and I always prefer these over cream-based ones as they suit me better. The gel is clear and somewhat runny though I don’t find that to be a problem since I always dilute my shampoos in an empty bottle with 3 parts water and one part shampoo.

The Bosy Shop Rainforest Shine Shampoo Swatch
● Rinses out easily and quickly
● The packaging: I find all body shop shampoo bottles appear bulky, boxy and ugly. But finally, The Body shop has come up with a bottle of shampoo that does not resemble my bottle of cough syrup 😛
● I don’t merely apply oil but actually gunk my hair in oil. This is one of those rare SLES free  shampoos that effectively removes any oil or a mixture of several oils from my scalp without too much of a vigorous rubbing. I have tested it on olive oil, castor oil, sesame oil and mustard oil. For coconut oil lovers, sorry I did not test the shampoo on it as coconut oil doesn’t suit me.

The not-so-good things about The Body Shop Rainforest Shine Shampoo:

● The fragrance which, even though pleasant, is a bit too strong for me. Also, considering that this shampoo claims to be more chemical-free than their other shampoos, the fragrance should have been rather natural. In fact, I find that their Honey shampoo, Ginger shampoo as well as Olive shampoo smell a dozen times less fake than this one.
● Because it is SLES free, I find myself using more quantity of shampoo than usual to create the lather I want. As a result, it gets over very fast unlike their other medicine-bottle-shampoos which seem to sit forever on my bathroom shelf 😛
● The results are only visible as long as you stick to the same shampoo or frequently rotate between this and another shampoo. The moment you give more than a two-week break and switch to an SLES shampoo, your hair will be back to where it all began from.

Verdict: Highly recommended for those with dull hair.

Rating: 4/5

Would you purchase this again: Yes, certainly. It is a staple now in my haircare routine.

      1. i love ths one too… infact even the hair butter… its my HG shampoo.. and yeah even i vouch for the oil removing properties.. i soak my hair in oil and ths one removes in a single go!!

          1. my brother was joking wen he read ” no silicon no parabens no colorant etc” he said take a closer look hope it doesn’t say “no shampoo” 😆

  1. I so wanna buy this one! It is free from all the dreaded chemicals! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: probably the most organic shampoo I have ever come across…

    1. it does have chemicals. though as with most TBS products they don’t state a list of ingredients properly. but es, it does not have all the “dreaded” chamicals and my hair neither feels nor looks dry with this one.

    1. neha, i dilute so that i get more quantity of liquid to wash. but less harmful since it’s more water and less hsampoo. this is an old granny type nuskha, have heard it on many beauty related tv shows and magazines :lashes:

  2. I too dilute d shampoo & then use, aftr my parlour wali aunty advised me.
i truly can see d difference of using undiluted n diluted shampoo.
Though wd surely like to kno, why shampoo shd b diluted n used.

    1. see neha. nimi’s been advised too. nimi one must dilute to reduce the harmful effects of shampoo. u will end up using less shampoo on your scalp if it is in diluted form.

  3. READ THIS SUMWHERE ONLINE…I THOT I’D SHARE…DON’T KNOW IF IT REALLY ANSWERS THE QUESTION “WHY DILUTE UR SHAMPOO” ?:)

Sodium chloride (salt) is found in almost all shampoos. It’s used to adjust the thickness, or viscosity as we say in the cosmetic science business. It will not have much impact on your shampoo performance except maybe sting your eyes a bit if you put in too much.

Here’s an interesting experiment you could try. Take 2 parts shampoo and mix it with 1 part water. This will thin out most shampoos. Add a pinch of salt and it will thicken back up. This happens because of the chemical structure of the detergents in the shampoo.

  4. i guess people dilute their shampoos cos it cleans just as well,it’s less harsh on the hair, may be also rinses away more thoroughly…and of course get more for ur $$ :X-P: 😉

  5. I always dilute my shampoo after i heard that dilution helps in even distibution leading to less usage of shampoo & less product build up.Also, certain shampoos are harsh to be used directly! 😐

  6. I have been using it for a while…and I love the way it smells!!..its the most amazing fragrances of all my shampoos!!..and the conditioner too is good!!

  7. I am awake coz Neya is awake in the nights but surprised to see so many of you here at this time !!!!! Are you guys not sleepy? Given a chance I’ll sleep for days together.

  12. Nice review. I’ve got the Moisture variant. Honestly, it didn’t do much. I have weird frizzy, moody hair and somehow TBS moisture forest shampoo didn’t live up to my expectation even after using it with the hair butter. The Bangalore weather doesn’t help either. 🙁

  13. I use an SLES free himalaya shampoos for long time yes they dont lather but there is a method to its working .
First wet your hair and use diluted form of shampoo it will not lather but slightly rinse away the dirt (or oil in my case that i apply b4 shampoo ) and make it partially clean. Once rinsed use a thicker form of it and spread it over wet hair and try to foam . SEE this time it will definitely Lather 🙂 🙂 🙂 .. all SLES free shampoos work this way ….

I did not know about it before and initially used too much shampoo later through hit and trial learned about this trick 🙂 try it and see 🙂

    1. shreya as far as i know all himalaya shampoos have sles. though they do not mention it on the back of the shampoo. u sure they don’t?

      1. i think so 2…just that they dont mention it on the bottle…i could be wrong…prolly sum1
from IMBB can write to Himalaya Herbals and find out 🙂

          1. oops im scared now :quiet: :suspense: .. but then why dont they lather ? arent the SLS SLES foaming agents ??? ?:) ?:)
b4 i purchased them i asked a lot of people who used it no one mentioned any bad effects …

            1. shreya no bad effects does not mean no sles 😛 there are many companies includinf forest essentials and fabindia which may put a list of ingredients but it is only s “selective” and not an exhaustive list. i have used himalayas and it does lather. even this rainforst does not lather but gives me a soapy feeling in hands. the only shampoo that has refused to lather even wen diluted in water is the honey shampoo by body shop which is sles free but full of other chemicals.
so u will need to talk to some scientist to get all this straight :clap2:

  14. Here you go niharika and shreya. this is a post straight from IMBB. Yes, i too, like febib remember havind read a complete article online that himalaya shampoos have sles. they just do NOT mention it at the back. Beware!

🙂 Hi everyone. There is a shampoo which is SLS, paraben, formaldehyde free which is called Hairomax Nalikera shampoo made with virgin coconut oil and it has three varieties. Popular and reputed brand here in Kerala.. Not sure whether it is available rest of India but worth checking online. I am now using biotique shampoo for past 2 years.. does not add shine or anything great.. but my hairfall actually stopped..I am sure that it has SLS cause they dont mention it on the pack and it laters well. Himalaya has SLS and parabens but i am now using the protein conditioner and its okay…I have been using ayurvedic oil Neelibringhadi for past one year.. Its great gals.. Worth a try. I think that stopped my hairfall. Dont try to use random brands. Buy from Kottakal..Keeping the scalp clean is important for good hair at all times..Cheerrs 😎

        1. i too had dry hair. i realised that shampoos will not make much difference so past few months i have been oiling regularly and voila my hair is super soft and shiny now. and yes, i have been using rainforst shampoo also alongwith it. so i don’t know if its the oiling or the shampooing thats given me results. maybe both.

i will soon be reviewing 2 more tbs products thats solved my dry hair problem. read them 8)

  15.     :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :handshake2: :handshake2: :handshake2:

  16. i really doubt if bodyshop shampoos are really sls free……….and dry hair people try schwarzkofp moisture kick shampoo…itd does have sls….but it wrks like miracle..atleast it wrked fr me..

  17. thanks shilpa. i will try schwaarkpof whatever i find it so difficult to write or pronounce it 😛 but curently this one is working fine for me. i guess if companies advertise a certain shampoo as sles free it must as the same companies also make sles shampoos anyway .

  18. Great review. 🙂
My sis purchased The Rainforest Shine Shampoo and Rainforest Moisture Conditioner a couple of days back… I would have to wait for her take on it.

Has anyone tired the Kiehl’s Argan Oil (SLES, Paraben, Silicon Free) Shampoo, Conditioner and Mask by the way? I had the opportunity to try a couple of shampoo samples of those. Following the first two washes my hair was dry and a bit tangled but after the third wash it was so smooth, soft and tamed. I have frizzy, poofy hair. I later found out that most SLS free shampoo’s have this effect. They tend to kind of “detox” the hair. So the first couple or so washes, you hair would be actually showing the very things you wouldn’t want it too…

Well just thought of sharing this, in case the Argan Oil shampoo is available in India, at least someone could try it… 🙂

  19. I’m loosing my hair….bfr 11 months i had my hair rebonded(INDIA)….nd i got massive hairfall….so with that i stopped using hair spa nd stopped conditioners too applying to my hair and till now am just using “lorial professionnel paris liss ultime oil incell shampoo”…..infact with that also am suffering with hairfall nd alot with dryness…..guess my hair got damaged with that rebonding….soo can anyone help me out, which one is the best shampoo and conditioner(should me MILD AND SLS FREE) should i use for dry, damaged nd for hairfall..???.my hair got very thin….Help me please…..
