I am here with a review of Yes to Grapefruit Dark Spot Correcting Serum. We constantly hear and read about the launch of many different types of anti-aging skincare products and one item, which keeps popping up, is facial serum. Facial serums have a more concentrated formulation of anti-aging elements in comparison to moisturizers. They are considered more potent which gives faster and better results for skin firming and even skin tone. Since with regards to wrinkles, prevention is always a better strategy compared to cure, I lay my hands on everything, which has “anti aging” on it.
Yes to Grapefruit comes under “Yes To” series umbrella, which is a very famous US drugstore brand. The Grapefruit collection has products catering towards correction and repair for uneven skin and age spots. I have some brown spots on my face so I wanted to see if this serum would do any justice to my skin. The serum comes in a white plastic bottle with a pink colored cap symbolic of the grapefruit color. Though the bottle is sturdy, the cap is little flimsy. If I am not careful with the bottle, the cap tends to come out very easily. So I prefer to use this serum more as at-home option rather than a travel pick-me-up. As serums have more concentrated composition a very small amount is enough for application on face. I found the pump nozzle very helpful as it allows just tiny amount for each use.But the bottle is completely opaque so there is no possibility to see the contents as it is being used.
The serum mentions that it is sodium lauryl sulfate and paraben free, which is a huge plus. It also mentions that it has 99% natural product content. The main component grapefruit extracts is present with White tea and African Grass root.
1 oz / 30 ml bottle is priced at $19.99
My experience with Yes To Grapefruit Dark Spot Correcting Serum:
The serum is light brown in color and thick in consistency. In comparison to other serums that I have used like Estee Lauder and Kiehl’s,this serum has a creamier texture. However it gets absorbed very fast into the skin like other serums.I really liked that it did not leave any greasy feel to my skin. What I did not like was that as soon as it gets absorbed, my skin started feeling very tight but not in a pleasant way. The serum claims to firm the skin. But this was not the kind of firmness I was expecting. It felt more like my skin is getting stretched in all directions.Whenever I use this serum I have to layer it with another face cream or moisturizer on top of it.
This serum is not very good if you have dry skin, as it does not provide any hydration benefits at all. So even though the serum claims that it can be used both during the day and night, I prefer using only during daytime. Also I prefer this serum only during summers compared to winters. You can see from the swatch that it leaves a very faint white cast.Another thing I learnt is that when I use this serum my skin should be completely dry after washing the face. If my facial skin has water droplets, then it becomes a milky colored emulsion of oil and water, which becomes difficult to blend. The serum mentions to correct and repair acne and dark spots. I do not have any acne scars but I was eagerly looking forward to see the impact of the serum on the brown spots. Though I religiously applied the serum everyday morning, even after a month it did not lighten the brown spots on my face.
The fragrance of the serum is not pleasant at all. In fact instead of smelling like grapefruit, I found it smelling more like a medicine. When I first applied the serum, it smelled so strong that I thought that the serum has gone bad. The good thing was that as soon as the serum gets absorbed in the skin, the fragrance is no longer present.

Cons of Yes To Grapefruit Dark Spot Correcting Serum
• Bottle is opaque and cannot see contents as it being used.
• Smell not pleasant at all.

• Did not see any change in fading of brown spots or skin tone.
• No brightening effects on skin.
• Not suitable for dry skin as makes skin feel very tight.
• Serum has to be definitely layered with moisturizer.
My conclusion is that this product is not suitable for dry skin until layered under moisturizer.

I would recommend this product only if you have oily skin. I would not buy this product again….the list under cons sections says it all.
