I am sure a lot of us have used lip crayons and lip pencils that are thicker than the usual lip liners. I have owned a couple from NARS (a lot of them have already been reviewed on IMBB). NARS has a huge color selection and a lot of other rival b*rands have come up with such pencils. The new entrants on the scene are the MAC Velvetease lip pencils with up to 20 shades in this range. Today, I am reviewing the shade “Lover’s Lane” from MAC Velvetease lip pencil range, which is a deep orange matte color.

The MAC Velvetease Lip Pencil in Lover’s Lane comes in a standard MAC cardboard box and the pencil inside comes with a protective outer cap. It is pretty good and safe for travel as well.
My Experience with MAC Lover’s Lane Velvetease Lip Pencil:
I have used NARS Velvet Matte lip pencils previously and love them thoroughly. My all-time favorite shade is Cruella. Though those pencils are awesome, yet users have one common complaint, it’s the need to sharpen them which leads to product wastage and you need an additional accessory – “the sharpener.” When I first saw this MAC pencil in the stores, the joy of picking up a mechanical pencil was instant. There were flashes of memories of days in life when I had to attend a party and was unable to find the sharpener to sharpen up the broken tip of the pencil :’( I had to use some other lipstick instead, I am sure you can relate to this 😛
So, the first and foremost positive thing about the pencil is the mechanical twist-up mechanism that is a blessing for lip pencil lovers. The shade “Lover’s Den” is a deep orange color which can be compared to MAC Dangerous, but Dangerous is much darker in real.
This lip pencil is of matte texture, but not as matte as the MAC retro mattes that can dry the life out of lips 😛 This is more of a creamy matte that glides on the lips with a slight sheen. This is a very bright shade and looks amazing with traditional dresses. The staying power is average at 2-3 hours and then the color fades unevenly. It’s not hydrating, but not drying either.
Texture and Application: Creamy matte texture, glides on the lips, does not settle on to dry patches of the lips.
Pigmentation and Coverage: The pigmentation is better than average and one swipe deposits up to 70% of the color. It does hide dark spots on lips, but you need further layering.
Shade and Finish: This shade is a deep orange color with a mild shine finish.
Staying Power: Stays on for 3+ hours, but fades unevenly.
Is it comfortable to wear? Yes, it’s very comfortable and non drying.
Fragrance: The lip pencil has no fragrance to it.
