Thanks to my predilection for dry makeup, I steer clear of liquid makeup- be it liquid foundation or liquid eyeliner. I find it too cumbersome and I am always unsure of the application process.
Therefore, I love pencil eyeliners (they’re so easy to apply!) and I am constantly on the lookout for one that is smooth, pigmented and worth raving about. When speaking of black/brown eyeliner (which I think is a makeup staple), I cannot really say that I have hit upon the one. But when it comes to shades like light grey and peacock green, I have found much solace in having discovered Clinique and Maybelline products respectively for each shade.
This is a review of the Maybelline Eyestudio Vivid and Smooth Eyeliner in Peacock Green. It is most certainly vivid and most certainly very smooth. For its price, I have to say that it’s quite a find!
Before I tell you more about the product, I want to tell you why I am particularly fond of this shade and why I think it’s one of those makeup items that is worth having around. Unlike black, brown or dark blue eyeliners, bright and vivid shades like peacock green really illuminate your eye region. If you’re prone to dark circles around your eyes (I most certainly am), then this is a useful shade of eyeliner to own. It deflects attention from the darker regions around your eye. Staying away from black and other dark shades is a makeup trick that has proven very useful for me.

The colour is fairly pigmented and, of course, vivid. It’s super smooth and therefore very easy to apply.

You can smudge the line or keep it sharper depending on your preference—that’s the flexibility that a smooth pencil liner offers.

The quality of this product is easily comparable to the pencil liners by MAC (I have used a similar shade by MAC, and I do believe that this product compares to the MAC counterpart), which is five times the price!
Why you may not want to get this:
Can’t be sure of the ingredients:
While I really like Maybelline products, this is my biggest issue with most of them. The packaging rarely (perhaps never) gives you the full list of ingredients. This really bothers and makes me wonder what goes into them and why the company doesn’t bother to keep us informed. After all, this is a product for your eyes and if you’re very particular and don’t want to take a chance, then stay away from it.
However, at the same time, I would also like to point out that while other cosmetic companies might be listing some or all of their ingredients, it’s not like we are aware of the repercussions of any of those. So, perhaps it boils down to the same thing.
Tip: Because I’m not sure of the ingredients, I make sure not to use this liner on the waterline of my eyes as that considerably increases the chances of the product reacting with my eyes. You could use this on your eyelids and/or below your lower lash line.
This is a pencil eyeliner and it’s not retractable. Therefore it might be a little inconvenient because you will have to sharpen it frequently. Retractable pencil liners, although convenient, are not very smooth. So, I suppose the smoothness of this eyeliner is guaranteed.

Verdict:
Great colour. Very useful for people with dark circles. Smooth and very easy to apply. I love this product. Commendable quality and texture. The only thing that nags me is the silence that the company maintains about the ingredients that they use to make their products.
Will I re-purchase Maybelline Eyestudio Vivid and Smooth Eyeliner: Peacock Green?
