Wella Flowing Form Smoothing Balm Review

Hi ladies,

You might already know my craze for hair taming products. I have curly to wavy, dry hair, and I am always styling them. This time, I invested in a balm for the hair thinking this will aid me to mould and tame my hair when I blow dry them.

My Experience with Wella Flowing Form Smoothing Balm:

I have used this smoothing balm after shampooing and using a hair mask. My hair was pretty damp when I used three pumps of this around the roots and mid-legnth. eThe roots need to be avoided in this product. This feels very thick and slimy on the palms. Three pumps is more than enough for medium length hair. If you feel you don’t want to add thickness or more grease to tame frizz in your hair, one pump should be good. If you have fine hair, and you don’t want it look even finer, one pump will be good to begin with. But on the other hand, if you need your hair to go down volume wise, and get some frizz control while you blow dry, 3-4 pumps will be good idea.

One thing I would like to point out is that it makes a coating sort of thing on the hair, so you immediately lose your “freshly shampooed” hair feeling. This is the only product that I use, no serum. I blow dried my hair using round brush and in sections. I was able to mould, tame, shape and sort of straighten my hair in a jiffy.

When I wrapped my hair around the barrel brush, the curl was retained beautifully. The waves in my hair were gone, and when I held the hair taut, the tension in the hair plus the balm made my hair straight and frizz-free.

Despite all of this, there was some bounce and movement to the hair – just like they claimed! The volume was lesser, the frizz was lesser, and my hair looked more in control and moulded.

My curls at the bottom stayed intact for a long time due to this balm. I ideally do not comb through the curls or blow dry, as I don’t want the volume to come back to my hair. If you want, you could run your fingers through the hair, or comb through in case of fine hair.

Pros of Wella Flowing Form Smoothing Balm:

  • Great for blow drying if you have a lot of volume in your hair.
  • Frizz control claim is true to an extent.
  • Brings flexibility and bounce in the hair as the they claim.
  • Helps me straighten my wavy hair when I am blow drying.
  • Retains my out curls when I am using a barrel brush while blow drying.Natural movement is retained in the hair, no spray like feel.

Cons of Wella Flowing Form Smoothing Balm:

  • Hair feels thick and coated.
  • Might add grease to already oily scalp or hair type.
  • Might reduce volume, so use just a pump.
  • Feels a bit sticky.
  • Would make thin hair more flat.
  • The pump dispenser was giving me trouble very soon.

Would I Repurchase/Recommend Wella Flowing Form Smoothing Balm?
Yes, I am happy how it tamed my hair while blow drying and retained the curl at the ends. I don’t mind how it removes volume from my hair. If you have too much volume, thick wavy hair, try this!
