Packaging:
The luxurious YSL packaging is a game changer –detail oriented with the fab placement of the golden YSL logo, the beautiful colour band, the heft of the lipstick. It definitely screams class. You can seriously sit and stare at this one! Itsalmost like owning a piece of jewelry.
The golden casing has the YSL logo running in the middle within a coloured strip – colour reflects the shade of the product in the tube. It comes packaged in a cardboard golden box, which makes photography a nightmare!
My Experience with YSL Rouge Volupte #29 Opera Rose:
Rouge Voluptes and Volupte shines – launched ages ago – still remain the most sought after line from YSl or any brand.
Color: Like I said, the colour is bright pink but different. It’s a bright pastel pink. So on swatches, this will look fab but on face, it can get tricky. The colour being pastel would look fab on Caucasian skin tone but may look absolutely ghastly on our yellow or olive skin tones.
If I use a medium to full coverage foundation (masking all spots and pigmentation on my face) – this looks good. However, if I use a BB cream or a liht foundation wherein my spots surface through, the lipstick looks horrible. Weird? But true!
I think this is a colour you HAVE to test out on yourself before buying – not hand swatch but face application. I feel the lipstick would look quite nice on fair skintone. On anyone over NC42 – avoid. The pic shows the swatch of this colour along with that of Rouge Volupte #9 – Reviewed by Rati earlier. That I feel being a dirty rose colour would be more universally flattering on all skintones, though in hand swatch #29 looks more becoming.
Texture: The texture is extremely creamy and slippery and it glides on so smoothly. Actually, it glides on so smoothly that it is very easy to lose control and go off the lip lines. It has a lot of slip and does transfer easily. The lipstick keeps the lips hydrated for as long as its there.
If applied in a single layer, the lipstick does settle into the fine lines. Also, when lips are pursed together, the lipstick forms lines. To remedy that, I go over my lips a couple of times, depositing more pigment and avoiding this gathering of the creaminess.
Pigmentation: Decent pigmentation – about 70% colour deposit in one swipe.
Staying Power:The lipstick lasts for about 3.5 – 4 hours on my lips and leaves a very soft stain behind.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of YSL Rouge Volupte #29 Opera Rose:
• Unique colour
• The lipstick glides on like butter – no tug, no pull.
• Considering the bright colour and how softly it glides on – there was no feathering or bleeding.
• Hydrates the lips while on
• Applies easily from the tube
• Luxeand practical packaging
Cons of YSL Rouge Volupte #29 Opera Rose:
• The lipstick transfers easily because of the soft texture.
• Tricky colour – will not suit all skin tones.
• Tends to collect when lips are pursed – but can be remedied to an extent.
IMBB Rating – 3.5/5
On a fair skinned girl, this could be a bomb of a colour – easy, bright and still light on the eye. But for darker skintoned girl or someone with obvious face pigmentation – I would suggest you to avoid.
And that is the trickiness of quite a few YSL Rouge Volupte colours – they swatch beautifully but can look quite ghastly once applied. SO my advise would be to either really try this in store before buying or look at swatches on Indian/olive skintone rather than on Caucasian skin tone while shortlisting.
