1. Do Not Bite the Nails:

If you want long, beautiful nails, you should get rid of this bad habit now! Chewing your nails restrict the nail growth and also reduces the length of your nail bed. Thus, even when your nails are growing, they do not look long enough! Bite into an apple if you are angry, or bite your enemy if you are angrier, but never ever bite your nails again. This is the first step towards having long nails.

2. Apply Nail Polish Regularly

Try to find some time for your nails every week and apply nail polishes. It prevents your nails from getting exposed to water which inturn helps to prevent the brittle nails. Do add a base coat and top coat as they help the nail polish last longer. Also, a base coat prevents the nails from interacting directly with the harsh chemicals in the nail polish. Do not ever apply thick layers of nail polish in one go as they will peel soon, damaging your nail bed. Apply thin layers of nail polish and go for a second layer once the first one dries. This makes the nail polish stay longer without chipping.

3. Remove the Nail polish Properly

Many people scrape off their old nail polishes before applying a new color. This damages the nail bed and makes it weak. Make sure to use a good quality nail polish remover to get rid of the old color. Pamper your nails properly and then only go for a new nail color.

4. Do Not Go for Gel and Acrylic Nails Regularly:

These nails definitely look perfect, but they are artificial and you cannot keep them forever. Often too much of acrylic or gel nails make our natural nail bed damaged and brittle and to hide that we keep repeating the process. Instead of getting the artificial nails done regularly, allow your natural nails to grow in a healthy manner. If you take care of your nails, they will look as good as the artificial ones.

5. File Your Nails Properly

Filing your nails prevents the nails from breaking and also helps to give it a proper shape. But, filing the nails in the right manner is important too. Instead of filing in a back and forth motion, move from the edge to the centre and complete one side at a time.

6. Do Not Cut Your Cuticles

Trimming the cuticles is a mandatory step in the parlor-manicure sessions. But, it is a very harmful practice that leads to infections and may damage your nail forever! Instead of cutting it, use cuticle creams and oils. This helps to prevent cuticle overgrowth and allows the cuticle to protect your nail health in return.

7. Moisturize Your Nails

Just like your skin, your nails also deserve moisturization. Try to massage your hand cream over the nails regularly as it keeps the nails healthy. If you get time, you can also pamper your nails with coconut oil and olive oil. Both these oils moisturize and nourish your nails. Massaging the oil on the nail improves circulation and allows the nails to grow longer. You can either massage the warm oil on your nails or soak your nails in the oil for 5-20 minutes.

8. Treat Your Nails with Vitamin C

Vitamin C felicitates the healthy growth of nails by promoting the collagen development. Lemon and orange juices are the best source of vitamin C for your nails. Mix the juice with the oils and soak your nails for ultimate benefit.

9. Add Vitamins to Your Diet

Not having the right vitamins in your diet often make your nails weak and brittle. Biotin supplements are great for your nail, skin and hair. You can take it in the form of supplement or from natural sources like banana, cauliflower and nuts. Vitamin A, C and folic acid are also important for your nail health. Consult your doctor and add these supplements in your diet to make your nails stronger and healthier.

10. Eat Right Food

A right diet definitely assists the growth of your nails. Eat foods that are rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals. Salmon, egg, nuts, beans should be necessary part of your diet. Also, add various seeds as they contain minerals and micro nutrients that are necessary. Eat loads of fruits and definitely drink enough water. All these will not only make your nails healthy, but your hair and skin healthy too.
