May Coop Raw Sauce Hydrating Nourishing Essence

About the product:

Product details

What it is formulated to do:
This essence helps effective ingredients penetrate into skin, thanks to its unique maple-tree sap base. The innovative formulation is packed with nourishing botanical complexes, along with ingredients possessing antioxidant properties, which neutralize free radicals and support natural skin cell regeneration. This luxuriously silky liquid has a smooth, non-sticky texture that quickly absorbs into the skin for an instant boost of hydration, resulting in skin that’s not only healthier-looking, but better able to obtain the benefits from any product applied afterwards. It’s further enriched with unique, botanical, herbal, and floral complexes to intensely hydrate and promote a radiant complexion.

What else you need to know:
Maple tree sap particles are almost the exact same size as our bodily fluids (even smaller than water) and enable the formula to easily absorb deep into the skin. The essence intensively hydrates and delivers critical nourishment to skin, creating a healthy-looking glow from within. It also helps prep skin to better absorb subsequent products, such as serums and moisturizers, so that you get the most out of both your morning and evening skincare routines. This product is cruelty-free.

Price:

$14 for a smaller size and $43 for a bigger size.

Ingredients

My Experience with May Coop Raw Sauce Hydrating Nourishing Essence:

Packaging:  This product comes in a tall glass bottle with a wooden cap. It is very aesthetically pleasing and looks very sleek and classy. You just have to be careful while handling it because it is made of glass and the dispenser has a small hole to pour the liquid out.

Texture, Usage and Results:  This product is an “essence” which is one important step in the Korean skin care routine. It is basically used after cleansing and toning, but before using a serum. There are different types of essences in the market which address different skin issues. This product by May Coop is designed to be a hydrating, nourishing essence.

This product looks very similar to water, but is just a tad bit thicker and less runny than plain water.  Since I have dry skin, I use this product as a toner and essence. I take a couple of drops in hand post washing my face and just pat it onto my skin. It absorbs right into my skin within seconds and leaves absolutely no residue on it. There is no tacky or greasy feeling, just plain smooth and plump skin. The closest feeling to this I can describe is when you use a hand sanitizer and how it instantly dissipates from your skin with a slight cooling feeling, it feels just like that which is not surprising since the second ingredient in this product is alcohol. I am not thrilled about the presence of alcohol in such a significant quantity in this product as alcohol is a known skin irritant and does dry out skin (hence in my mind, has no place in anything claiming to be “hydrating”). But unfortunately, I overlooked this fact when purchasing this product, otherwise I would have never picked it up, but since I already have it now, I do use it.

Thankfully, this essence has not dried out my skin even when I have used it during super dry winter season. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed and silky smooth post absorption and I have noticed it improves absorption of serum and moisturizers that I use post this essence. It leaves a nice glow on my skin which I like. It makes my skin feel firmer and shrinks any open pores I may have post cleansing.

May Coop Raw Sauce

Regarding its hydrating and nourishing claims, I do think this is a good addition to your skin care as it does create a moisture barrier on your skin, but if you do have dry skin like mine, this product must be used along with a moisturizer or facial oil to give you the full benefit. This product can also be used by oily skin as it is super lightweight, refreshing, and does seem to balance skin and tighten pores.

A little goes a long way with this product. You only need a couple of drops per application and even the small bottle will last you for months.

Fragrance:  I love the refreshing clean, almost soapy scent it has. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I quite enjoy it.

Swatch

Overall, I was expecting this product to be a huge fail as soon as I noticed the “alcohol” in the ingredients, but it surprised me at how nice this product performed. It gives an amazing boost to my skin and has become a great addition in my skin care routine. I don’t think this product is an absolute must-have as your other regular hydrating toners might perform in a similar way, but if you would like to try out Korean skin care which includes the use of essences as an extra step in your skin care, this is a great product to try. I will recommend this product.
