My Experience with Cantu Shea Butter Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream:

First things first, the way to apply this curl activator cream is to take a small pea-sized amount in your palm and spread it through wet curls. The formula of the cream is really thick, so it works better when your hair is slightly wet than damp. The thickness of the cream comes from shea butter, so if you have extremely thin hair or wavy hair, this product might weigh your hair down. I use this right after I get out of the bath. I scrunch my hair with a cotton t-shirt and apply this through my hair. You can choose to dry it with a diffuser or let it air dry. I usually let my hair air dry.

It has this rich, creamy, coconut scent and honestly, I think it smells like pina colada, but after your hair is fully dry, there’s barely any scent left behind, it’s like it was never there.

The product really lives up to its claims. After my hair is fully dry, I get these gorgeous ringlets that do not have any frizz in them. My hair feels so soft that I cannot stop touching it all day! This curl activator cream provides moisture to my hair and keeps it hydrated for longer so that your curls do not dry out.

After a couple of times of use, I noticed that my scalp would get itchy, so if you have sensitive scalp, I suggest you use this product strictly from the mid shaft of the hair to the ends. After doing a bit of research, it turns out that shea butter sometimes may cause buildup on the scalp and it just needs to be cleared out  and clarified with a good shampoo.

I use this curl activator after every hair wash which is every 4 days and I really love the fact that it doesn’t have any parabens, silicones, drying alcohols, sulphates or any other product that are actually harmful for curly hair.

P.S. This cream will only work if you have naturally curly hair or wavy hair, it’s meant to enhance natural curls and will not give you curly hair if you don’t already have it.

Pros of Cantu Shea Butter Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream:

  • Frizz-free curls.
  • Gives good definition and moisture to curly hair.
  • Has an amazing, sweet coconut scent.

Cons of Cantu Shea Butter Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream:

  • May cause buildup and itchiness in sensitive scalps.

IMBB Rating:
4/5. I took one point off because of the itching it may cause with product buildup, but other than that, it’s the best curly hair product that I have ever used.

  1. Hii. I am using cantu curl activator since a week now. This forms a hard cast on my hair. Is it normal? I have curly hair type just like yours. But it forms a cast amd feels scrunchy.
