ColourPop Running Late Matte Pressed Powder Review

Hello ladies,

After a lot of hoopla, ColourPop finally launched their powder eyeshadows. So, I too jumped on to the bandwagon and picked up a few shades. The first of which that I am reviewing is “Running Late.” us see how this one performs:

Product Details (from the website):
Running Late – It’s only acceptable when you’re wearing this matte creamy orange. (This is so ironic – but I will come to that later)! Highly pigmented shadow that applies evenly and feels ultra-velvety and silky. This long wearing formula contains a unique combination of softer powders which adheres easily to the eyes, gives a soft focus effect, and blends smoothly and evenly. Tips: Apply with your favorite shadow brushes. Flat and firmer brushes will give the most color payoff. Fluffier brushes are great for blending. Use a small angled brush to line the eyes.

My Experience with ColourPop Running Late Matte Pressed Powder:

Shade:  I have been on the lookout for a mustard or dirty yellow shade for quite some time. I think the shade that I want is Makeup Geek’s Chickadee, but since I could not get my hands on it, I thought I would look for alternatives in the Colourpop line. The shade in question is a light to medium yellow-orange and it has warm undertones.

On my medium NC30 skin tone, it shows up easily. Used with a light hand, the shade works well as a transition shade or something to set your eye primer with. Used with a stiffer brush or packed on a little, it can be used all over the lid as well. In the eye look that I have created, I have used it for transition as well as on 2/3rd of my lid.

Texture:  The texture is quite soft and a bit powdery. The powder itself is fairly smooth and finely milled. It kicks up a bit of powder when you tap your brush into it. It is creamy matte and applies smoothly. The product applies easily. However, when blending, I feel it sheers out extremely quickly. This may work well when you are using it as a transition shade or to set your primer. However, when you are applying it on the lid – it is a bummer. You pack it on and when you go in to blend the edges or to blend it into another shadow – you find it sheering out and disappearing, which can be quite a pain. So, post application, you have blend it in and then have to go back and pack it on again. Also, I found that this shade creased over time. Around the 4-5 hour mark, I found the shade started fading and creasing. Please note, this was over a primer (I had used the Urban Decay Primer Potion).

Pigmentation: As I have mentioned while discussing the texture, the shade has decent pigmentation, but tends to sheer out while blending. It is easy to pack it on also but if the shade was to be applied onto the lid, once you are through blending, you will need to go in again and build it up.

Staying Power:  I apply my eyeshadows over a primer because my lids are way too oily. The shade gave about 4-5 hours of wear time before showing signs of fading and creasing into the craters on my eyelids.

Pros of ColourPop Running Late Matte Pressed Powder:

  • An interesting yellow-orange shade.
  • Very soft and smooth to touch.
  • Decent pigmentation.
  • Blends out easily.
  • Does not emphasise texture of my skin.
  • Had no fallout.

Cons of ColourPop Running Late Matte Pressed Powder:

  • The shade tends to sheer out too easily.
  • The wear time isn’t too good – about 4-5 hours.
  • Starts creasing around the 4-5 hours mark.

IMBB Rating:
2.5/5

I am afraid I cannot recommend this shade. The shade itself is okay and can be worked with. However, at this price point, you do have other better options like MAC and MUG. Even though the product is touted as this super cheap option, I cannot endorse it because if you pay a dollar more – you can get better quality and more product per gram. Lastly, the description for the shade states Running Late – it’s only acceptable when you’re wearing this matte creamy orange. I find this extremely ironic because by the time you blend it and realise it has sheered out and you need to build it up again – you are definitely going to be “Running Late”! Pun intended, of course!!
