ColourPop has been pretty consistent in bringing forth new makeup products that are extremely affordable. ColourPop Ultra Matte lip range has a vast array of lippies to choose from, and I’ve gone bonkers over their liquid mattes. I have more than 10 shades from this range, and today I’m reviewing the shade Kae.
Price: $6 for 3.2g
Product Description: This thin, lightweight formula smoothly glides on the lips, leavingthe super intense pigment with a bold, ultra-matte look. It is very long-wearing and 100% kiss-proof AKA no transferring!
Ingredients:
Isododecane, Diisopropyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Nylon-12, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Silica, Polypropylsilsesquioxane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Propylene Carbonate, Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Red 7 Lake (Ci 15850), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891).
Application Tips:
• Moisturize lips with ColourPop Lippie primer/lip balm for incredibly smooth finish
• Line your lips with a lip liner of similar color
• Apply a thin layer of ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip Sunday
My Experience with ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipstick Kae:
Packaging: The packaging has nothing unique to offer but, it’s good for travel purposes. The lipstick arrives in a white colored box that bears all the details of the product. The transparent lipstick tube has a silver cap. The shade looks slightly different when applied to the lips. It has a regular doe foot applicator that makes it easy to fill in the corners of the lips.
Color and Pigmentation: The shade, “Kae” is a deep burgundy shade with warm undertones. It’s the darkest brown shade in my vanity. The pigmentation of all the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipsticks is awesome. It gives an opaque finish in a single swipe. The shade suits my complexion well and would look great on fair to medium warm undertones but, it won’t suit dark/dusky skin tones. The shade is too dark for everyday use so, I prefer wearing it on days when I’m doing a brown smoky eye look.
Texture: The texture of this lipstick is extremely smooth and lightweight. Initially, it looks glossy but dries down quickly to a super flat matte finish. The formula of this liquid lipstick is very comfortable to wear. The product isn’t infused with moisturizing properties, so one must wear a lip balm underneath. The best part is that it doesn’t stain the lips at all.
Staying Power: The staying power is quite impressive. It lasts the entire day. However, the color fades away from the center of the lips while having an oil-based meal, but the majority of color survives a meal. However, it settles into fine lines and cracks, if the lips are not properly hydrated, which is a major downside of this product. I have really dry lips so, I get tiny flakes and cracks after a few hours, yet I’m in love with this lippie as it stands up to its claim of being completely transfer proof. Also, pursing the lips together doesn’t help in spreading the color as it settles to a matte finish within 30 seconds of application and doesn’t budge from its position. All-in-all, it’s a good product.
Pros of ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipstick Kae:
- Richly pigmented, one swipe is enough to cover the discoloration on the lips.
- Lightweight texture.
- Unique, warm brown shade.
- Stays for 7+ hours.
- Budget-friendly.
- No feathering or fading.
Cons of ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipstick Kae:
- Makes your lips dry, using a lip balm underneath is a must.
- Fragrance free product, which may bother fragrance fanatics.
- Makes lip lines visible.
- Color is much darker on your lips than it appears on the website or in the bottle.
- Not easily available in India.

Will I Repurchase/Recommend ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipstick Kae?
I wouldn’t repurchase this particular shade. However, If you’re comfortable in pulling off such dark shades then, you must give it a try!
