ELF Cosmetics Hits & Misses Part 3

ELF Cosmetics Hits & Misses Part 3

Hello everyone! Here is the last part of my ELF reviews for the products I have tried that are also available on the ELF India website (www.eyeslipsface.in). In this post, I’ll be focusing on the makeup brushes and tools that I have tried.

BRUSHES:

Foundation Brush – MISS!

ELF Foundation Brush
ELF Foundation Brush

What ELF says about Foundation Brush: Achieve an ultra smooth, poreless finish when applying foundation or tinted moisturizer. For best results use upward brush strokes.

What I think about ELF Foundation Brush: I did not like this  foundation brush at all . 🙁  The bristles are decently soft, but they are so flimsy! The brush head bends way too easily and is not dense at all. It actually feels like a paint brush to me. It does not pick up powder very well. I did not even bother to try it with liquid foundation as I have other brushes that are only slightly more expensive that I know will work better. Would not recommend this.

Blending Eye BrushHIT!

ELF Blending Brush

What ELF says about Blending Brush : Expertly blends multiple eye shades while softening dramatic edges and fine lines. Brush can also multitask – use it to set powder or liquid concealer.

What I think about ELF Blending Brush: I believe that there are inconsistencies with this brush. Some people hate it and say it is scratchy and doesn’t pick up eye shadow very well. I’ve also seen in pictures that sometimes, the brush head is really big and bushy and looks scratchy. Mine however, is very densely packed and the bristles are very soft. It blends very well for me and I use it daily! I think if you have the chance to choose between brushes when buying this, you should pick the nicest looking one versus a bushy looking one.

ELF Blushing, Bronzing, and Blending Brush – MISS!

ELF Bronzing Brush
ELF Bronzing Brush

What ELF says about Bronzing Brush: This unique three-in-one brush allows for precision application of blush, bronzer, and all other multipurpose dusts and loose powders.

What I think of ELF Blending Brush: I had high hopes for this brush, sadly, I was disappointed. 🙁 The shape of the brush head itself is good for contouring, however, it was so much smaller than I expected! I wanted a bigger, fluffier brush. Also, the bristles are SO stiff and scratchy! Not comfortable on the face at all! It does pick up powder decently but just the fact that it is so scratchy does not make me want to use this brush.

TOOLS:

ELF Shine EraserHIT!

ELF Shine Ereaser
ELF Shine Eraser

What ELF says about Shine Eraser: These amazing little sheets instantly absorb oil, minimize pores and mattify shiny skin. Woven texture eradicates shine and keeps skin matte for hours. Green Tea Extract helps re-texturize skin, masking facial imperfections. Travel pack fits neatly in purse for on-the-go touch-ups. Contains: 50 sheets.

Directions: Gently pull out Shine Eraser sheet from envelope. Blot sheet in T-Zone.Flip sheet and blot all other facial areas.Use whenever skin needs to be mattified.

What I think about ELF Shine Eraser: I personally love these oil absorbing sheets! They work just as well as any other oil blotters I have tried that were pricier, and this is just $1! It really absorbs all the oil and shine off my skin and mattified it. I don’t agree with the claims about the green tea “masking facial imperfections” though, but it is a very good regular oil blotter for the price!

So, I hope this series was helpful for anyone who wanted to buy from ELF’s website but weren’t sure what to try! Next, I’ll review some more ELF products that aren’t listed on the ELF India website! My personal favorites from ELF that I haven’t reviewed yet are:

  • Studio Blushes
  • Studio Bronzers
  • Studio High Definition Powder
  • Studio Powder Brush
  • Studio Concealer Brush
  • Studio Kabuki Face Brush
  • Mineral Eyeshadow Primer
  • $1 Eyeshadow Brush
  • $1 Blending Wedges
  • $1 Cuticle Pen

I would ESPECIALLY recommend the Studio Powder Brush if you can find it!!! It is an AMAZING brush. So soft and applies powder flawlessly . 🙂

  1. This is really useful..especially for me since I have never tried anything from ELF so far, and now I have some useful info to start with. I would love to try the nail polish remover pads..they seem good and you given them a HIT rating 🙂

  2. That was a great review. Couldnt agree more with you about the High definition powder and kabuki brush. Can you recommend any specific colours for the studio blush.

    1. Thanks! 🙂 For the Studio blushes, I like Candid Coral for a sheer flush of peachy color, Blushing Rose for a deeper, “just pinched” shade, and Fuschia Fusion for baby pink dolly cheeks!

Candid Coral and Peachy Keen are very very sheer but give a nice slight shimmery sheen to skin. Blushing Rose, Berry Merry, and Mellow Mauve are all darker rosy shades, and I think they would look great on darker skin tones! Fuschia Fusion (has glitter) and Pink Passion are both bright, bold pinks if you’re feeling adventurous! 😉

  3. Erynn,
Your reviews are spot on! My favorite brush form E.L.F. is the blending brush, which btw blends like a dream (like you mentioned in your post!)
The studio eye brushes are all too short and hurt your eye when you put makeup on – – ouch!
But the two large brushes from the studio line are the best I’ve ever used, and they’re vegan!
Please do a review on the HD powder if you’ve tried it. I tried to MUFE one at Sephora and it looked really bad on me! :-X

    1. Hi Devika,
Thanks!! 🙂 OMG, I agree! I thought I was the only one that had trouble with the Studio line eyeshadow brushes! I have the Contour brush and I don’t think it picks up the shadow that well and doesn’t apply it that well either! Plus, it’s short and stubby 😛 I love love love the Powder brush though. I have not tried the complexion brush though, is it good? 🙂

I actually did a review of the HD Powder on my blog here: http://ectini.blogspot.com/2009/11/elf-high-definition-powder-review.html, Hope that helps!

      1. Hey thanks…I’m just clicked on your review for the HD powder.
I had no idea you live in Hawaii… Aloha! :p How lucky are you?
I have the complexion and powder brush (two of each…at $3 dollars it doesn’t hurt to stack up!). Haven’t tried the contouring brush after a bad experience with the regular line’s contouring brush!
The complexion brush is pretty awesome, but my favorite brush has to be the powder brush..it is absolutely ah-mazing. I love how it feels on my face!

    1. Neha- did you try the regular line’s blending brush (the one that’s white) or the Studio version (the black one). It’s the white one that works really well imho. I have a couple of them. The Studio one on the other hand is disastrous.
