FabIndia SeaBuckThorn Moisturizer Review

I have been using FabIndia’s SeaBuckThorn body lotion for the past month and now I think I can review it pretty fairly 😛

I have personally never used any FabIndia’s skin care products and honestly I wouldn’t really have purchased this. But my sister gifted it to me and I have been using it since 🙂

What is SeaBuckThorn…

The sea-buckthorns are deciduous shrubs that are found extending from the Atlantic coasts of Europe right across to northwestern China. Sea-buckthorn berries are edible and nutritious and are a rich source of Vitamin C, E and A.

Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae Rhamnoides) is a source of herbal medicines, modern vitamins and nutrients well recognized around the world. It is used as active ingredient in anti-aging and medicinal skin care products.
Due to the high content of nutrients essential for the metabolism of skin cells, Sea Buckthorn oil is applied to combats wrinkles, dryness and other symptoms of malnourished or prematurely aging skin.

My Experience

When I first saw it, it looked pretty enough in a long-ish bottle with a pump top covered by a transparent cap. It had the signature FabIndia label in mustard yellow and it looked quite nice. It looked amazing on the dresser though 😉 The lotion is pale yellow in color.

It smells strong and when I say strong I mean really strong. Initially it smelled yum but having to smell the same smell the whole day was quite nauseating. But then this is my personal opinion cause ALL of my friends and colleagues just love the smell. 🙁  The fragrance of the lotion is really long lasting and it just stays with you the whole day!! It even overpowers my EDP or EDT . 🙁

Now you see I have extreme dry skin (gosh I just keep repeating that na!) and so a moisturizer passes the litmus only if my face feels oily on applying it. Well… The moisturizer failed ☹ It didn’t alleviate my skin’s dryness and on top of it I had to bear the strong fragrance . 🙁

In order to not waste such a good bottle of moisturizer, I now use it on my face by mixing it with drops of almond oil. But then again let me specify that this is relative cause my really good friend who has normal to dry skin simply loves the texture and feel of the lotion!

It costed my sister Rs.220/- and I must say it is quite on the expensive side cause I could get some good moisturizers from my beloved Oriflame in that price. But then I am a Garnier Body Cocoon loyalist… So… 😛

In favor of the lotion let me tell you that I didn’t break me out and it suited me quite well excepting that I prefer my lotions a bit more on the oilier side 😉

In order to summarize this review, I have listed out the pros and cons of the product.

Pros of Fabindia Seabuckthorn Body Lotion

  • Pretty bottle
  • Good for Normal to Dry skin
  • A lot of people like the fragrance
  • FabIndia products are herbal so the probablity of breakouts or reactions is less.
  • Very easily available

Cons of Fabindia Seabuckthorn Body Lotion

  • Expensive at Rs.220/- for a daily moisturizer
  • Strong fragrance (con for me)
  • Not recommended for people with extremely dry skin

Will I purchase it again?

Sadly, NO. I prefer my lotions with a subtle fragrance and more oiliness . 🙂

  2. Hi Suma,
I have used this lotion and had the same experience as you. It is highly perfumed and didn’t do much to my skin. Infact I got so irritated with the smell and I finally threw away last one fourth of the moisturizer.

You use body lotion on face?

    1. Me too..I don’t like stong fragrances, besides certain heavily scented products can also trigger an allergic reaction!…Hey I don’t think it’s a good idea to use body lotion on the face, I feel it may contain stronger chemicals as it is meant for the body. 😐

  4. Thnx a lot to u n IMBB.
