It’s time for some bold and beautiful shades from Hourglass Confession Lipstick collection – At Night and Secretly. I am really enjoying this range. Despite the low amount of product in there, they sure make up for it in quality.

My Experience with Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Lipstick – Secretly and At Night:
Packaging: Refer to the pictures and I will try to explain the packaging here. I am sharing pictures of both – the Refillable lipsticks and the individual refills.
The Refillable Lipstick: The refillable lipstick is this elegant and extremely questionable (coming to that in a minute) – golden applicator. The applicator has a lot of heft and screams luxury. You separate the cap from the pointed end of the applicator to reveal a twist-up lipstick. The lipstick is a thinner version of a regular lipstick with a slant tip. Normally, I have issues with application – especially on the cupid’s bow – with a rounder slant tip lipstick. However, in this case, it isn’t an issue because the lipstick itself has a smaller diameter and it hugs the cupid’s bow nicely. The shade name is written on the side of the lipstick barrel. So, if you have more than one of these – you will need to open it each time and check the shade. The shade name is thoughtfully put on the side of the lipstick barrel and not the golden applicator, since the same applicator can be used to fit in another shade of the refill lipstick. The mechanism to change is extremely easy – the refill detaches easily and can be replaced quickly.
Coming to the questionable part – the golden applicator is reminiscent of the cigarette holders used by Western world – mostly women – from 1910s to 1970s. They were made iconic by Audrey Hepburn (in Breakfast at Tiffany’s) and Lucille Ball (in I Love Lucy). Having said that – I personally wonder how ethical it is for a brand to glamourize smoking! Anyway!
Refills: The refill consists of a black plastic lipstick case with a proper fitting cap. You pull out the cap to reveal the lipstick barrel. The lipstick shade is written on the side of the barrel as well as at the bottom. This bottom plug will actually need to be pulled out of the barrel to fix the lipstick into the golden applicator. While the golden applicator adds to the luxe feeling and the whole charm of the collection, you do not NEED the golden applicator. The refill can easily work on its own. The plastic case is in no way cheap plastic and is quite secure to use on its own.
A quick brief about the collection: This is like the naughty collection from Hourglass. All shade names reflect a “confession statement.” Like “I Desire,” “If Only,” “I’m Addicted,” etc.
Secretly: Described by the brand as a “classic red” color. Secretly is a medium to dark, intense red shade with neutral to slightly cool undertone. This is like a power red shade – an absolute “headturner.” It isn’t so bright that it’s in your face. Neither is it a deep maroon or blood red shade to look too vampy. It sits nicely in between – making for a stunning red. Considering the almost neutral undertone – this one should work for most skin tones.
At Night: Described by the brand as a “brick red” color. At Night cannot be summed up as “Brick Red.” It is one of the most unique shades in the line. “At Night” is a medium to dark red with a hint of rose and a hint of brown. I just love love love love how interesting and beautiful this shade. Such a unique take on red and one which will flatter a variety of skin tones.
Texture: Again, the formula is consistent across the line. Both shades have a creamy satin finish. The texture is a creamy, lightweight and glides smoothly over the lips without being too slippery. However, once applied, they do not slide around and adhere well to the lips. Both shades are mildly hydrating and super comfortable to wear. Being a creamy finish, it transfers easily to any surface it touches – cups, spoons, etc. And being a bold shade, the transfer is clearly visible. However, this does not seem to impact the pigmentation too much. It does not smudge outside the lip lines or feather or bleed. I did not see the need of using a lip liner with them.
Pigmentation: Both shades have such saturated pigmentation! They go fully opaque in a single swipe. The arm swatches shared for the entire line consist of two single swatches swiped parallel – since the lipstick is thin. I never needed to go over the swatch again in order to create depth or even-ness of pigmentation. The brand promised “saturated” lip colour and that is exactly what they deliver. As I mentioned earlier, being satin finish – it transfers to other surfaces it touches, easily. However, the intensity of colour on the lips does not seem to suffer much.
Lasting Power: These shades last the entire day. I get over 8-8.5 hours of wear from them. As it starts disappearing from your lips, it wears off evenly and it does not look patchy. And even when the lipstick has disappeared, the stain is strong enough to give me at least another 2 hours. You will need to take it off with the stain with a makeup remover.
Fragrance: There is a slight fragrance – which seems like an added perfume but it isn’t unpleasant to the nose. Having said that – do note that I could smell it only when I actually sniffed the product. I did not register it during application.
Pros of Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Lipstick – Secretly and At Night:
- Bold and beautiful shades of red – will work on a variety of skin tones.
- Lightweight texture.
- Excellent pigmentation.
- Very comfortable to wear – no feeling of dryness or clinginess.
- Easy to apply and get clean lines.
- It applies smoothly and evenly –no tug or pull.
- Does not flake or bleed.
- Luxurious packaging (though I have shared my contra opinion on this too)..
- Excellent wear time – about 8-8.5 hours.
- Cruelty free.
Cons of Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Lipstick – Secretly and At Night:
- The amount of lipstick is distinctly lower than what any other slim lipstick offers. But then, Hourglass isn’t really a drugstore or even mid-priced brand. They have positioned themselves consciously as a luxury brand and make no apologies for it.

Both shades are absolutely stunning! You will not regret picking either one up. If I am pushed to chose one between these 2 shades – I would go for the shade “At Night!” Apart from the quality, I am loving the shade range – it has such beautifully balanced, wearable shades.
