After reviewing the gorgeous shade I Desire from the Hourglass Confession Lipstick line I am back with two more shades today. These two shades are also bright and bold. So, let us see how they perform.

Suggested Usage:
-Twist the ultra slim lipstick to reveal product and apply. Retract product down before recapping.
-Hold pointed end of the gold applicator, remove gold cap and pull out lipstick barrel.
-Remove black cap of refill shade, firmly pull lipstick barrel out from the cylindrical black base.
-Reconnect refill black cap and base with remaining lipstick.
-Hold pointed end of the gold applicator and insert new refill shade into opening until it clicks into place.
-Secure gold applicator cap after each use.
My Experience with Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipstick I Crave, My Icon Is:
Packaging:
Refer to the pictures and I will try to explain the packaging here. I am sharing pictures of both – the refillable lipsticks and the individual refills.
The Refillable Lipstick:
The refillable lipstick is this elegant and extremely questionable (coming to that in a minute) golden applicator. The applicator has a lot of heft and screams luxury. You separate the cap from the pointed end of the applicator to reveal a twist up lipstick. The lipstick is a thinner version of a regular lipstick with a slanted tip.
Normally, I have issues with application – especially on the cupid’s bow – with a rounder, slanted tip lipstick. However, in this case, it isn’t an issue because the lipstick itself has a smaller diameter and it hugs the cupid’s bow nicely. The shade name is written on the side of the lipstick barrel. So, if you have more than one of these you will need to open it each time and check the shade.
The shade name is thoughtfully put on the side of the lipstick barrel and not on the golden applicator since the same applicator can be used to fit in another shade of the refillable lipstick. The mechanism to change is extremely easy – the refill detaches easily and can be replaced quickly. There is no rocket science to it.
Coming to the questionable part – the golden applicator is reminiscent of the cigarette holders used by Western world – mostly women – from the 1910s to 1970s. They were made iconic by Audrey Hepburn (in Breakfast at Tiffany’s) and Lucille Ball (in I Love Lucy). Having said that, I personally wonder how ethical it is for a brand to glamourize smoking. Anyway.
Refills:
The refill consists of a black plastic lipstick case with a proper fitting cap. You pull out the cap to reveal the lipstick barrel. The lipstick shade is written on the side of the barrel as well as at the bottom. This bottom plug is needed to be pulled out of the barrel to fix the lipstick into the golden applicator. While the golden applicator adds to the luxe feeling and the whole charm of the collection, you do not NEED the golden applicator. The refill can easily work on its own. The case is no way cheap plastic and is quite secure to use on its own.
A quick brief about the collection: This is like the naughty collection from Hourglass. All shade names reflect a “confession statement.” Like “I Desire” “If Only”, “I’m Addicted”, etc.
I Crave:
Described by the company as a “Bright Red.” I Crave is a medium, clean, neutral to warm red with a satin finish. It’s a beautiful bold red which will suit a variety of skin tones since it has a balanced undertone and doesn’t lean towards too cool or too warm.
My Icon Is:
Described by the brand as a “Blue Red.” My Icon is a medium to dark, cool-toned blue-red with a satin finish. The moment one says cool toned red everyone thinks MAC Ruby Woo. This is not a dupe of Ruby Woo. Apart from the distinct difference in the finish, this is satin while Ruby Woo has an extremely dry matte finish. It is deeper while Ruby Woo is brighter.
Texture:
Both shades have a consistent formula. They are satin finish lipsticks. The texture is a creamy, lightweight and glides smoothly over the lips without being too slippery. Once applied, they do not slide around and adhere well to the lips. The shade I Desire was comfortable but not necessarily hydrating; I find these two shades mildly hydrating as well. They are super comfortable to wear.
Even in this cool weather my lips do not feel dry or flaky with all the testing. Being a satin finish, it transfers easily to any surface it touches – cups, spoons, etc. And being a bold shade, the transfer is clearly visible. However, this does not seem to impact the pigmentation too much. It does not smudge outside the lip lines or feather or bleed. I did not see the need of using a lip liner with these.
Pigmentation:
The lipstick is fully opaque in a single swipe and it hugs the lips. The brand promised “saturated” lip colour and that is exactly what they delivered. As I mentioned earlier, being satin finish it transfers to other surfaces it touches easily. However, the intensity of colour on the lips does not seem to suffer much.
Lasting Power:
The brand promises “Longwear” and this shade totally lives up to it. The colour stays intact pretty much the whole day. The wear time will get affected by an oily meal but I still got about 8-8.5 hours wear time with it. And even when it is all gone, it leaves behind such a distinct stain that the stain itself gives you another 2 hours plus of wear. As it starts disappearing from your lips, it wears off evenly and it does not look patchy.
Fragrance:
There is a slight fragrance, which seems like an added perfume, but it isn’t unpleasant to the nose. Having said that, do note that I could smell it only when I actually sniffed the product. I did not register it during application.

Cons of Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipstick I Crave, My Icon Is:
The amount of lipstick is distinctly lower than what any other slim lipstick offers. But then, Hourglass isn’t really a drugstore or even mid-priced brand. They have positioned themselves consciously as a luxury brand and make no apologies for it.

The product lives up to the claims made by the company and is absolutely stunning, in terms of shade as well as quality. You know how we shy away from wearing red in any other finish except matte, because we are afraid of it ditching us during the course of the day/evening. I actually used ‘I Crave’ recently for an event without being worried that it will end up all over my face. And that should say something to you.
And, if the satin finish or the transference is an issue for you, you can apply the lipstick and after a few second just blot your lips with a tissue. The creaminess will go away but the opaque saturated colour will still remain. I have shared pictures of ‘My Icon Is’ on my lips – post blotting it. This will give you an idea about the saturation of the colour and the fact that you can actually wear it like a matte shade.
