Time for some more Hourglass reviews to come your way! Today, I will be reviewing two shades – One Day and One Time. That could almost be a “Michael learns to Rock’s” next song… And yet, it isn’t. Instead, we are talking about Hourglass Confession lipsticks.

Refillable Lipstick US $34 for 0.9 gm. Refill $22 for 0.9 gm. Yes, you read that right – 0.9gm of product. That’s actually less than some lip pencils or even deluxe size sample of lipsticks! 😉
My Experience with Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim Refillable Lipstick One Day and One Time:
Packaging: Refer to the pictures and I will try to explain the packaging here. I am sharing pictures of both – the refillable lipsticks and the individual refills.
The Refillable Lipstick: The refillable lipstick is this elegant and extremely questionable (coming to that in a minute) – golden applicator. The applicator has a lot of heft and screams luxury. You separate the cap from the pointed end of the applicator to review a twist-up lipstick. The lipstick is a thinner version of a regular lipstick with a slant tip. Normally, I have issues with application, especially on the cupid’s bow, with a rounder slant tip lipstick. However, in this case, it isn’t an issue because the lipstick itself has a smaller diameter and it hugs the cupid’s bow nicely. The shade name is written on the side of the lipstick barrel, so if you have more than one of these – you will need to open it each time and check the shade. The shade name is thoughtfully put on the side of the lipstick barrel and not the golden applicator, since the same applicator can be used to fit in another shade of the refill lipstick. The mechanism to change is extremely easy – the refill detaches easily and can be replaced quickly.
Coming to the questionable part – the golden applicator is reminiscent of the cigarette holders used by Western world – mostly women – from 1910s to 1970s. They were made iconic by Audrey Hepburn (in Breakfast at Tiffany’s) and Lucille Ball (in I Love Lucy). Having said that – I personally wonder how ethical it is for a brand to glamourize smoking! Anyway.
Refills: The refill consists of a black plastic lipstick case with a proper fitting cap. You pull out the cap to reveal the lipstick barrel. The lipstick shade is written on the side of the barrel as well as at the bottom. This bottom plug will actually need to be pulled out of the barrel to fix the lipstick into the golden applicator. While the golden applicator adds to the luxe feeling and the whole charm of the collection, you do not NEED the golden applicator. The refill can easily work on its own. The plastic case is in no way cheap plastic and is quite secure to use on its own.
A quick brief about the collection: This is like the naughty collection from Hourglass. All shade names reflect a “confession statement.” Like “I Desire” “I f Only”, “I’m Addicted”, etc.
Shades:
One Day: Described by the brand as a “n*de pink” lipstick. One Day is a light pale pink with warm undertones and a creamy finish. This fits into the n*de range of colours. Personally, I have learnt to understand the role of n*de lipsticks but they still aren’t the shades that I gravitate towards. So, this is not the kind of colour I would reach for or pull off without heavier eye make up and a medium to full coverage base. Having said that, I think, with the right eye makeup and blush – this shade would work as a nice n*de colour for fair to medium skin tone.
One Time: Described by the brand as an “aubergine” shade. This is the most unflattering or should I say, unpalatable (did you get it??) description I have ever come across, that too for a shade this pretty!! I can go ahead and explain the shade or I can just say that it looks pretty much like the shade Priyanka Chopra often wears and you all would probably get that description more easily!! I’ll still go ahead and explain it. This is a medium rose-plum shade with almost neutral undertone and satin finish. This shade is so so pretty!! Clearly, one of my favorite shades in the line. This shade should work across a number of skin tones and undertones!
Texture: The formula stays consistent across the line. Both shades have a creamy satin finish. The texture is a creamy, lightweight and glides smoothly over the lips without being too slippery. However, once applied, they do not slide around and adhere well to the lips. Both shades are mildly hydrating and super comfortable to wear. Being a creamy finish, it transfers easily to any surface it touches – cups, spoons, etc. It does not smudge outside the lip lines or feather or bleed. I did not see the need of using a lip liner with them. Considering that the shade “One Day” is a n*de shade, I was worried about two issues – pigment sinking into the lip lines and/or the texture thinning out after a few minutes to an hour – making my pigmented lips peep through. Happy to share that neither of these issues happened – which is impressive!
Pigmentation: Both shades have good pigmentation, pretty much opaque in a single swipe. As I mentioned earlier, being satin finish – it transfers to other surfaces it touches, easily.
Lasting Power: The shade “One Time” gave me about 6-6.5 hours of wear time and left a stain which lasted another couple of hours. However, the shade, One Day, being lighter, lasted for about 3.5-4hours only and did not leave any stain behind.
Fragrance: There is a slight fragrance, which seems like an added perfume, but it isn’t unpleasant to the nose. Having said that, do note that I could smell it only when I actually sniffed the product. I did not register it during application.
Pros of Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim Refillable Lipstick One Day and One Time:
- Beautifully balanced – interesting shades.
- Lightweight texture.
- Excellent pigmentation.
- Very comfortable to wear – no feeling of dryness or clinginess.
- Easy to apply and get clean lines.
- It applies smoothly and evenly –no tug or pull.
- Does not flake or bleed.
- Luxurious packaging (though I have shared my contra opinion on this too).
- Excellent wear time – about 8-8.5 hours.
- Cruelty free.
- Free from Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, Gluten, Silicone D5, Talc, Triclosan, Mineral Oil.
Cons of Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim Refillable Lipstick One Day and One Time:
- The amount of lipstick is distinctly lower than what any other slim lipstick offers, but then, Hourglass isn’t really a drugstore or even mid-priced brand. They have positioned themselves consciously as a luxury brand and make no apologies for it.

The shade, “One Day” kind of surprised me, maybe because I did not expect the quality to be consistent to other shades. N*des, more often than not, are difficult for me to pull off and they generally tend to get streaky, which does not help the matters. However, “One Day” was consistent in quality with other shades in the range and does not make me look washed out. When it comes to the shade “One Time,” things are obviously different. This could well be the shade I end up fully consuming!! I do love it!

Yes! Depends on your preference of colour – both shades perform well.
