It’s a common female condition we don’t like to talk about. If you are suffering from yeast infection, then these tips may help.
Dos and don’ts
1. Keep the place dry
Moist and humid places are ideal background for breeding of yeast. So try to keep the area dry and stick to cotton underwear which is breathable and allows moisture to escape.
2. Avoid antibiotics
If your doctor has recommended a specific dosage then it is OK to take them; otherwise don’t take them without any prescription as antibiotics have the tendency to destroy all bacteria including the beneficial kinds in the body that help keep yeast growth under control.
3. Cut back on sugar
If you are prone to yeast infections, staying away from sugar and carbs like soft drinks or sugary desserts might work for you as yeast lives on sugar. So if there is no sugar, then there will be no yeast.
4. No tight fitting clothes
If you are someone who wears a lot of tight clothing items which don’t let your skin breathe, then this might be the reason you get yeast infections. Try to go for breathable airy fabrics down there.
5. No wet bikinis and sweaty gym wear
That whole day out on a beach in sea water can gift you with yeast infection as wet bikinis could be ideal breeding grounds for yeast infection. Also, same is the case with gym wear. Sweaty gym wear could keep the area humid and moist which could also lead to the infection.
Start on daily probiotic supplements. If you don’t want to take any pills then there is no harm in trying yogurt which is rich is probiotics.
2. Coconut oil
Coconut oil has antifungal properties that can kill the fungi responsible for yeast infections. You can use an all natural coconut oil to apply on the affected area at least twice a day.
3. Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil has very powerful and effective natural antifungal properties but as it is an essential oil, you need this in a very minute quantity. Dilute tea tree oil with olive oil and you can use this mixture to apply on the affected area. If you feel any irritation, then wipe it off immediately as tea tree oil does not suit everyone!
It is best to consult a doctor as soon as possible, if nothing is working. This shouldn’t be taken lightly.
