Laura Mercier Foundation Primer
This primer came into my collection by fluke. My husband was travelling back to USA from India and the flight’s online entertainment system was not working, so they gave him 25 pounds gift certificate to buy anything from their Flight Purchase Catalogue as if to apologize for the malfunction of the entertainment system. And my dear hubby asked me to buy anything I want from the catalogue ! I went online, and finally decided on the primer. It was appx. 25 pounds in price and obviously didn’t require color- swatch check! After about 2-3 weeks of ordering, it landed on my doorstep wrapped in bubble wrap.
So here is my review on Laura Mercier Foundation Primer
It is one of the products, that when you first use it, you feel in your head…”Gosh! Why do people pay so much for such a stupid product?” As it’s colorless, lust less, watery kind of gel that is very similar to the feel of hand sanitizer sans the smell. It is odorless too. Even when rubbing into the face, you have to do it quick; otherwise it dries off pretty quick. Compared to my favorite primer from MAC (Prep + Prime), the skin doesn’t even feel smooth or moisturized after application. But since I have spent 25 pounds of gift money on it, I did use it for few times and it’s not bad after all.
My foundation truly stays for whole day even after being out in the nature (tried at the beach) and it does seem to fill the pores near the nose and eyes, making the pores less obvious. I didn’t breakout anytime (tried on humid days) and gives a dewy look, meaning takes some years off the face. So overall the verdict is “It’s a good product!!!”….but I still prefer MAC Prep + Prime for its smoothness and moisturizing properties. One more thing I liked about this product, is packaging. It’s in tube form, so it’s easy to squeeze out the product rather than pumping out (MAC). It also has more product in the tube than MAC has in the pump for similar amount of money spent.
This is what I found from the website:
o Just as a painter “primes” a canvas, Foundation Primer – the original – was created by Laura Mercier in 1995 to “prime” the skin
o Colorless gel leaves makeup looking fresh and colour-true the entire day
o Ideal for normal and combination skin
o Vitamins A, C, and E act as antioxidants and protect the skin from harmful, aging effects of the environment
o Cooling Foundation Primer in the refrigerator is refreshing for the skin and reduces puffiness
o 1.75 oz.
So I think now, I do like the product, and will use it faithfully all summer. And will keep MAC primer for winter. Sorry for such rude comments first, but that’s exactly how I felt looking at the dull brown beige tube when it first arrived. Will I buy it again? Yes! Now I like the primer!
Here is the how the liquid looks, its cloudy-colored gel, but has no color when rubbed into the skin. No tingling, nothing happens – it’s just plain gel.
