This review will be on the Lime Crime Velvetines in the shade “Bleached.”
Inspired by rose petals, Velvetines go on liquid and dry to a velvety-matte finish. Touch-proof, transfer-proof and utterly addictive!
$20 but I got it for less than that during Black Friday sale.
My Experience with Lime Crime Velvetines Bleached Liquid Matte Lipstick:
Packaging: All Lime Crime products have very unique packaging. These Velvetines liquid lipsticks come in a frosted plastic tube with a doe-foot applicator. I love the design of roses on the cap, which gives it such a girly appeal. The applicator is a bit small, but it is precise. I personally do not feel any difficulty with application of liquid lipsticks since I am used to it, but for beginners, it might take some practice as mistakes can be a bit difficult to clean because it does dry quickly enough.
Texture: This liquid lipstick goes on creamy smooth liquid and dries down to a complete matte finish within seconds. The texture is a bit more liquid-y and not as mousse-y when compared to Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid lipsticks (it’s my favorite formula for liquid lipsticks by far) or Stila All Day liquid lipsticks.
Once it dries, it is completely budge proof, smear proof and kiss proof. It does not bleed at all.
Shade and Pigmentation: The shade “Bleached” is a gorgeous peachy n*de shade. N*de lipstick shades can be tricky as they depend on your skin tone and its undertone to work. I have had quite a bit of difficulty in finding a n*de that would suit me and not wash me out by giving me dead/zombie lips. Luckily, this shade of n*de looks absolutely perfect on my light-medium skin tone. It has a good amount of peach tone to it instead of beige which is the reason it turned out so flattering on me. If you have a skin tone deeper than medium, this might wash you out unless you use it over a deeper shade of lip liner.
N*de lipsticks such as this pair well when you have dramatic eye makeup going on and do not want to draw attention away from it by pairing it with an equally dramatic lipstick shade. As a rule of makeup, you should only play up one feature of your face at a time to keep the look wearable.
This lipstick does go on a bit streaky in one swipe since it is a light shade, but two coats will give you a complete opaque streak-free finish, good enough to cover pigmented lips.
Feel and Staying Power: These liquid lipsticks dry to a complete matte finish. I find the formula of Kat Von D liquid lipsticks to be much more comfortable than this one. Still, this Lime Crime Velvetines feels like a feather on your lips. Like all matte liquid lipsticks, it will accentuate chapped and flaky lips, but if you exfoliate slightly before application, this will wear on like a dream. It does have a slightly powdery feel on the lips after 4-5 hours of wear, which is not of uncomfortable or bothersome quality. It does not feel sticky at all.
It stays intact for 8-9 hours and also survives a full meal (provided the meal isn’t too oily). It does not transfer at all. You can hardly feel it on the lips due to its lightweight texture. You do need a makeup remover at the end of the day to remove all traces of it. I love the fact that this product is all vegan too.
Overall, an absolutely fantastic product! I am very happy that I finally found a flattering n*de lipstick shade for my skin in a liquid lipstick format. If you are someone with light to medium skin tone, you must get this. I like the formula of Lime Crime Velvetines too, hence I will recommend this liquid lipstick.
Left – Freshly applied, Right – once it dries to a matte finish.
