Lime Crime Venus II Palette Review

Hello everyone,

After the smashing hit of the original Venus palette, Lime Crime has released its sister palette – “Venus II.” Despite all the controversy surrounding this brand, I genuinely love their products.  I am yet to find a dud product from them and it disappoints me that such amazing products are not being talked about anymore, especially by beauty bloggers. Read on to know more about this eyeshadow palette and why I love love love (spoiler alert!) it.

Lime Crime Venus II Palette

Product Description:
A follow-up to the cult-favorite that spearheaded the reddish-brown eye trend of 2015 year, Venus II is the darker sister who slays with 8 full-size, recklessly pigmented eyeshadows that will take your makeup game to the next level.
VENUS2 boasts a variety of distinct shades that create equally distinct looks. ‘Filter’ is a throwback to Buffalo 66; ‘Boot’ bursts with nebula-like sparkle; ‘Jam’, ‘Mud’ and ‘Mustard’ create a classic early 90’s eye; while ‘Pigeon’ and ‘Fly’ elevate the palette into a nu-grunge necessity.

My Experience with Lime Crime Venus II Palette:

Packaging:  I love the unique packaging. It has a depiction of Roman goddess Venus on the front and inside, there’s a good sized mirror provided along with 8 eyeshadows. The lid closes magnetically and the palette is made of sturdy cardboard.

Texture:  All these eyeshadows have a smooth and silky texture. The shimmers are not gritty.  The “blendability” is amazing and these shadows don’t feel chalky.

Pigmentation and Shades:  The shade assortment in this palette is by far the most unique I have ever seen. The colors even though are very different from each other, it’s surprising how well they pair together. Since there is such variety in this palette, every look created comes out different. This palette sparks your inner creativity and it’s truly a color lover’s dream palette.

The pigmentation is excellent. All the shades have the same amazing, full punch of pigmentation, whether they are deeper or lighter shades, and they layer on beautifully for added opacity. The mattes are particularly outstanding.

Row 1:

Pigeon (pearl): Brown/green shift- A beautiful duochrome shade. It has a dark brown with a forest greenish-red shift. Reminds a lot of the Urban Decay single eyeshadow in the shade “Lounge” that I had reviewed a while back.

Filter (glow matte): Luminous cornflower blue. Super unique pastel periwinkle blue shade. It is the exact shade of one of the Pantones 2016 color of the year- Serenity. I was expecting this shade to be chalky and lacking in pigmentation which is usually the case with lighter pastel shades, but to my surprise, it delivered the same quality performance as the other shades in the palette. It does need building up in 1-2 layers to achieve the required opacity.

Row 1 shades

Marsh (glow matte): Mossy grey-green. A light mossy green with golden duo chrome-y shift. It is not super sparky but gives just a hint of glow.

Eyeshadow swatches

Mustard (creamy matte): The color of corduroy. Gorgeous deep mustard yellow. A must-have shade for warm tone eyeshadow lovers.

Row 2:

Fly (pearl): Ivory with a green shift, like the wing of a fly. My favorite shade in this palette and maybe my favorite eyeshadow shade ever. It is so unique, so beautiful and true to the name, this eyeshadow replicated the iridescent effect of the wings of a fly. It has a duochrome which catches the light and sparkles.

Jam (creamy matte): Pumpkin spice creamy matte. Another warm color lover’s dream shade. It is a rich pumpkin reddish orange.

Row 2 shades

Mud (creamy matte): Rich burgundy-brown, the color of spoiled fruit. Another pick for warm color lovers. A rich muddy brown.

Shadow swatches

Boot (sparkle matte): Nebula black with multi-color sparkle. I love how instead of being a complete matte black, this palette has black with tons of multi-color sparkle. Though the pigmentation of black is opaque and wonderful, I did have difficulty getting the glitter to stick on the lid along with the powder. I do find packing it with my fingertips allows for more glitter to be transferred, but it is never as evenly applied as it appears in the pan. I love how it gives just a hint of sparkle but nothing overboard. You can easily make this a matte shadow by blending it with a fluffy brush which sweeps away all the glitter particles.

Staying Power:  Though these eyeshadows work perfectly well without a primer, using a primer will help your eyeshadow adhere better and last longer. On my primed lids, I notice no fading or creasing for 7-8 hours (the time that I usually wear makeup for).

Overall, I love this palette. I couldn’t be happier with this assortment of shades and wouldn’t change a thing about it. I am very impressed and highly recommend this palette to everyone. The high-quality shadows in this kit rival even the most high-end designer brands I have used.

In the EOTD:

Look 1:

Used “Fly” all over lid with “Pigeon” in the outer corner. Transition shade is “Mustard” with a mix of “Mud and “Jam” in the crease.

Eye makeup

Look 2:
Used “Boot” all over lid with “Filter” in the inner corner. Applied a little bit of “Marsh” in the middle of the lid. Bright blue eyeliner on the waterline is Urban decay 24/7 liner in the shade “Gonzo.”

Pretty eye makeup
