L’oreal Color Riche Shine Gelee (Golden Vanilla) Swatches and Review
I bought this little baby a few months ago in Mumbai. What drew me to it was the claim that it was infused with Royal Jelly, which is a substance secreted by Honey Bees used to fee the larvae, its supposed to have multiple health benefits. In the case of the Shine gelee, its one of the main moisturizing ingredients.
According to Loreal and our dear darling Sonam Kapoor who is the brand ambassador for this line –
“What if your lips could have it all…The delicious colour of a lipstick, the crystal-shine of a lip gloss and the nourishing moisture of a lip balm. L’Oréal Paris introduces new Color Riche Shine Gelée. Our 1st lip gelée enriched with Royal Jelly. Cocoons lips in a conditioning formula that nourishes like a balm and shines like a gloss.”
The packaging to be honest really doesn’t do anything for the product. I am so not a fan of that yucky yellow color. However the fact that the middle part is translucent makes it easy to identify the shade – though it doesn’t make any difference to me since I have all of 3 lipsticks 😛
First let me tell you about my experiences with the product before I talk about the shade that I have.
These lippes are really and I mean REALLY moisturizing. They actually feel like a lip balm :D They are not pigmented at all so this is a no no if you want an actual Color. My flat mate has the same lippy in a pinky shade – its looks great as a light tint but after more than two swipes, the color stops increasing, and it just looks like you have too much product on your lips. So these are great if you want something to wear casually, just a hint of color, lots and lots of moisture. The other thing is that these are very, very Shimmery, in the picture below you can see the shine in the lipstick – of course this is not like MAC dazzleglass type shine but still, there is enough for it to be quite obvious. The staying power of these lipsticks is a good 2 hours with minimal eating or drinking – so of course re-application is necessary. But they really do deliver what Loreal claims they do which is really really good.
This is a great product to pick if you want light coverage, lots of moisturizing and none of the icky sticky of gloss. Otherwise this is not for you……….
The shade I picked up was “Golden Vanilla”. It’s a really nude, beige/light brown shade with golden shimmer in it. I like the shade because it looks great when I do a dark smokey eyed look . You can see the swatches below 😀
On the left is the lippie swiped about 4-5 times and on the right is the lippie swiped just once. So as you can see this color is only buildable up to a particular point. So even if you swipe it a lot you wont get a really dense color on your lips 🙂 If you look at the single swipe you can see how it give you that lovely shiny gloss effect without actually needing a gloss.
And this is me wearing the shade.I have also tried on Rati’s smokey eyes, which do not look very smokey because I tried them without a matte black eye shadow 🙂
As you can see it goes on sheer and is a very nude shade. It does not settle into the fine lines of your lips unless you over do it and put too much.
These products are priced around INR 650 so they are not exactly cheap. For the color pay-off I don’t think these are worth it. But if hydrated lips are really important to you and color pay off isn’t – you really cannot go wrong with these. These are available in twelve different shades – for a look at the shades available look at http://www.loreal-paris.co.uk/cosmetics/lips/color-riche-shine-gelee.aspx
I am really not sure if I will re-purchase this product or not. It is very convenient to use for a day out, although the shimmer particulars look really odd if you are in the sun.
I would definitely recommend this product to people – not heavy duty make-up junkies but to friends who don’t use a lot of make up and are looking for products that help them achieve a subtle look that they can use both during the day and the night 😀
So all in all I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this lippie. I think it’s great in that it does what it claims but that being said this is not a lippie for everyone……..
