I decided to pick some dark lip colors as Halloween is around the corner. Max Fact0r being a good cosmetic company, I decided to buy them in darker colors and today, I will be reviewing Max Factor Color Elixir Lip Liner in 08 Mauve Mistress. So, read on to know more details on this product:

My Experience with Max Factor Mauve Mistress Colour Elixir Lip Liner:

In lip colors, I love pinks and reds and have never tried any browns or dark tints! I have been watching a few tutorials and a few women sporting dark lip colors here and as Halloween is around, and I decided to give a try! This lip liner is from the Elixir lip pencil range with gold color packaging. The transparent cap shows the color of the lip pencil. The lip pencil is travel friendly and it’s easy to carry around.

“Mauve Mistress” is a dark burgundy-purple shade and is heavily pigmented. The color is perfect for a gothic look or a seductive look but it is very difficult to carry on every day. The color on the swatch and on lips looks completely different. It is a beautiful deep burgundy when I swatched and I was pretty happy with the dark color but when I applied on the lips, it was a complete different story.

I am still thinking about makeup looks that I can carry off with this dark shade. The lip pencil is creamy and glides easily and doesn’t pull on the skin of the lips. The lip pencil like the other Max factor Elixir range doesn’t provide any moisturiation and the lip pencil has to be applied on to well-moisturized lips. However, I have noticed that this lip pencil dries my lips more than usual. In the lip swatch, I have applied it to well moisturized and scrubbed lips, but I see that the color accentuates even the smallest amount of dryness visible on the lips. It looks hideous and makes my lips look like it is very dry. I had to use a lip balm later to fix the issue. This is something I wouldn’t expect from this brand. The color and the dryness put me off instantly. There is so much of work I need to put into my lips before I apply this lip liner. However, I am teaming it up with other shades for an ombre effect or to create a darker shade and it works well.

The lip pencil is waterproof and this is an advantage. With a remover, the lip pencil comes off easily. The lip color stays very long. Considering the darker shade, it lasted longer than other Max Factor lip pencils I have. It doesn’t transfer or bleed and has a matte finish. The lip pencil is not a good choice as a base as it makes the lips dry and makes application of the lipstick difficult later. So, this product can be applied as it is or over other colors to create a new darker shade. Overall, I am not so happy with the product and I am not sure if I could carry off this color.
