My Experience with Maybelline The Powder Mattes by Colorsensational Powder Matte Lipstick Nude Illusion:
The lipstick comes in the regular Maybelline Colorsensational packaging but what makes it different from other is the matte finish cap. The lipstick tube is rectangular and comes wrapped in a cellophane paper bearing the product description, ingredients list, etc. The tube has a mirror finish and closes with a long colored plastic cap. The cap is color coded according to the color family the respective shade falls in.
As, this one belongs to n*des family, its cap is n*de beige in color. Also, there is a color-coded sticker at the base of the lipstick tube, which bears the shade name. The cap of the lipstick shuts securely making it purse friendly. The brand’s tagline is printed on the lipstick tube in simple black fonts. Overall, I do not find any flaws about the packaging of the product. It is nice and travel friendly.
“N*de Illusion” is a light mauvish n*de shade. The color is so pale that it would probably wash out a majority of Indian skin tones. This color will flatter very fair skin tones only. Unfortunately, the shade did not go well with my complexion and washed me out. It is a beautiful shade for fair skinned people who desire to flaunt “no makeup makeup look.” It looks subtle and gorgeous on the lips.
The lipstick does not have any shimmer or chunky glitter and sets to a soft powder matte finish. Though it looks slightly shiny initially, later on, it settles to a perfect matte finish. This shade is average in terms of pigmentation and needs to be built up properly for an opaque coverage otherwise it may not be capable of hiding lip pigmentation. If you have pigmented lips, this lipstick may not be capable of hiding pigmentation properly.
The texture of the lipstick is soft and smooth. It glides on the lips effortlessly and does not cause any tugging or pulling of the lips, which is a common concern with most matte lipsticks. Despite the creamy texture, the lipstick bullet does not break or melt, which happens to most Maybelline lipsticks (no matter what the range). I am glad that this lipstick does not break or detach or from the base.
The formula is great but it has the tendency of clinging to dry patches of the lips, which almost every matte lipstick has. Therefore prepping the lips well is mandatory before application, otherwise it highlights dry patches of the lips.
The formula is feathery light and feels ultra comfortable on the lips. It almost feels like nothing on the lips. The lipstick is not very moisturizing, but it is not drying either. I prefer using a lip balm beneath, otherwise my lips get dry at the end of the day. The formula is smudge proof and the color does not smudge even after a heavy meal as well, but the color goes away after meals and settles into the fine lines of the lips. The formula is not heavily transferring; there is very little transfer of color.
The lasting power is of the lipstick is average. Being a pale lip color, it lasts for 3-4 hours only. The lipstick is easy to wipe off with a normal makeup remover wipe.
