NARS Audacious Lana Lipstick Review

After reviewing NARS Audacious lipstick in Grace for you earlier, I bring to you another gorgeous shade from the line-up, NARS Lana. NARS released 40 shades named after 40 women who inspired Mr. Francois Nars in his life. We have a reader on IMBB – Lana! I just feel it must be a real kick to be able to get a lipstick shade-name same as yours! I doubt if any company is ever likely to produce one by the name Kulpreet any time soon! 😛  I have this tendency of picking 2 shades at one time instead of trying one and then picking up another. So, I picked Grace and Lana together from Hong Kong – since NARS isn’t available in India still.

Tips:

Apply Audacious Lipstick directly to the center of the mouth blending outward for full, creamy coverage of high impact color. Packaging:

NARS has finally heard customer complaints and revamped their lipstick packaging to a metallic case with a magnetic closure. It’s a matte finish case with NARS etched on it in a glossy finish. These are packaged in the usual cardboard box.

My Experience with NARS Audacious Lana Lipstick:

Color:  My final shortlists to hubby were – any two out of Grace, Lana and Greta. All three are vivid bright shades. I have reviewed Grace earlier and Rati recently did a FOTD with Greta. Lana, described as a “vivid orange red” is just that bright orange red; will suit most skin tones, instantly brightening the face. It is warm toned but not too yellow – so doesn’t make your teeth look yellow.  It’s great for someone who wants to try orange but is scared to go full orange. The red in it makes it more wearable and flattering.

Texture:  The texture of these lipsticks is extremely lightweight, gel like and glides ever so smoothly – has a bit of slip. It did not bleed or feather nor did it accentuate the fine lines. Considering how thin the consistency is, exfoliation of lips prior to application would be advisable. The finish is satin and fairly comfortable to wear.

Pigmentation:  Excellent pigmentation – 100% color deposit in a single swipe.  It’s amazing how thin the layer is and still how opaque. Refer to the swatch for how pigmented this shade is – gorgeous, full-on saturated color.

Lasting Power:  I have the same issue with this one as with Grace. It transfers a lot and lasts for only about 3-3.5 hours. If you eat something, it will surely disappear and does not leave any tint behind either.  So, it’s a total vanishing act! As with Grace, I tried the blotting and powder technique, but it still disappears. As I have mentioned  earlier, transfer of color really irritates me. It’s a real turn off when you share a bite or drink and the partner sees an entire ring of lipstick on the product/straw. Uggh!!! I make it a point not to wear this when I know I will be eating something.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of NARS Audacious Lana Lipstick:

• Beautiful orange red – should suit all skin tones and lights up the face.
• Insane pigmentation.
• Easy to apply from the tube.
• Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips.
• Not hydrating but not drying either.
• The color hugs the lips nicely – no feathering or bleeding.
• Hides lip pigmentation well.
• Luxe and classy feel to the tube and case!

Cons of NARS Audacious Lana Lipstick:

• Transfers way too easily!
• Doesn’t last much long – 3-3.5 hours wear time.
• Does not leave a stain.
• Ease of availability.

I love how lightweight and pigmented these lipsticks are, but the transference bit is my pet-peeve – so a turn-off for me – but may not be an issue for others. I would suggest that you try them before you buy them. The lovely bit is also that there is such a variety of shades to chose from – 40 shades – that you are bound to find one just for you. And if your name is the shade name – well, Lucky you!!
