What Order do you Apply Skin Care?

Though the first step to building an effective skincare routine is choosing awesome products, the second step is figuring out the right order to apply your products to receive full benefits. You have to keep in mind to apply the thinnest and watery consistency product first and heavy creams and oils towards the end. But if you are confused on what order do you apply skin care, here’s the correct order to apply your skincare products:

Order do you Apply Skin Care

Order to Apply Skincare Products in the Morning:

  • Step 1: Cleanser: Rinse your skin with a mild cleanser to get rid of makeup residue, oil, sebum, and grime on it.
  • Step 2: Hydrating Toner and Essence: Apply toner using a cotton pad to restore your skin’s pH. Including this step in your skincare routine will take off the residue grime from your face.
  • Step 3: Treatment Serums and Ampoules: Serums are super-concentrated, nutrient-dense treatments that address specific concerns, so it’s better to keep them as close to the skin as possible.
  • Step 4: Spot Treatment: Spot treatment needs to be applied only to the problematic area to treat your skin concern.
  • Step 5: Eye Cream or Eye Serums: The under-eye area has the thinnest skin on our face, so you have to apply eye cream/serum before you apply heavy facial moisturizer.
  • Step 6: Moisturizer: During daytime, if you don’t want a heavy moisturizer under your makeup, then consider a light lotion-type moisturizer or gel moisturizer.
  • Step 7: SPF: Sunscreen should be the last step as it works by physically blocking the UV rays.

Order to Apply Skincare Products at Night:
Step 1: Double Cleanse: Start with a makeup-removing product like cleansing oil, cleansing balm, micellar water or cleansing milk followed by a mild cleanser or face wash to double cleanse your skin.
Step 2: Hydrating Toner, Essence and Boosters: Apply toner or water-based skin care products like mists, essences, or hydrating (hyaluronic acid) serums to hydrate and nourish skin.
Step 3: Treatment Serums, Creams, and Pads: Do you know that skin repairs and rejuvenates at night as we sleep. You can use targeted skin care treatments like prescription ointments, retinol creams, sleeping masks, and anti-aging serums at night.
Step 4: Spot Treatment: If you have any acne or zits, this is the correct time to apply. For example, benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid spot treatment can be applied after the serum.
Step 5: Eye Cream: Address crow’s feet and dark circles with a heavy eye cream formula and protect your delicate eye area.
Step 6: Moisturizer: Night moisturizers or night creams are generally thicker and heavier and take time to get absorbed.
Step 7: Face Oil: Face oil should always be your last product as it forms a layer that sits on top of the skin and locks in all the moisture.
