The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% Review

Hi all,

In this post, I am going to review The Ordinary Resveratrol 3 % + Ferulic Acid 3 %. This is a combination of two powerful antioxidants. So, let us see how it works and whether it works.

The Ordinary Resveratrol Ferulic Acid

Product Description:
This formula combines very high concentrations of two of the most powerful and important antioxidants in skincare: Resveratrol and Ferulic Acid. Resveratrol is a natural phenol found in several plants and our pure source is 100% derived from Japanese Knotweed. Ferulic acid is a  high-potency phytochemical antioxidant found naturally in walls of plant cells. Water can impair the stability of any antioxidant. This formula does not contain any water, silicones, oils or alcohol. Do not refrigerate. This treatment is highly concentrated. Do not use on irritated or sensitive or dry skin. It can be diluted with most oils per application to reduce strength.

My Experience with The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3%:

The Ordinary brand has introduced us to a few anti-oxidants and this combination is one among them. This formula contains 3% of Resveratrol and 3% of Ferulic acid. Resveratrol is something that is commonly found in grapes and some berries. It acts like an antioxidant and it is famous as a health supplement too.

Now, let us look at the benefits of using Resveratrol in skincare. Since it acts like an antioxidant, adding this to the regime is more like doing it for prevention. It will not give absolute protection from skin damage, but using antioxidants in skincare will prevent them to a certain extent, like when used in synchronization with sunscreen, it will help reduce UV damage which is a major cause for early ageing and also reduce damage due to stress by targeting oxidants.

Ferulic acid is another anti-oxidant that is a part of this serum. Apart from having its own benefits, it is also known to increase or enhance the benefits of other anti-oxidants like Vitamin C.

The brand also suggests adding this to their vitamin C products for enhanced effect from both the products. The given concentrations of both the main ingredients are more than the minimum necessary for showing beneficial effects and so it is also advised to mix it with any oil-based serums too to reduce the concentration. I usually mixed 2 to 3 drops of this serum with my vitamin C product.

This serum is oil based, so it I did not have any issue mixing it with cream-based products. This serum is transparent, leaning a little towards yellow colour, and oily, and comes in a glass bottle with a rubber dropper.

The glass container is tinted and it is easy to adjust the quantity of the product based on requirement. When used alone, it gives an oily feeling to the skin and makes the skin sweaty in a few minutes in the hot weather. Even when mixed with other products, it tends to get a little oily, but it wouldn’t be a problem in climates other than summer.

Since the weather is not favourable for oily products now, I started using this at night alone. I have been using this for quite a while now and I can’t say that I am seeing visible effects particularly from this product partly due to the fact that I am not using it alone and also due to the reason that anti-aging effects cannot be seen immediately. Since it is more for prevention, I am happily adding it to my routine with the faith that I might see results when I begin to age badly.

Pros of The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3%:

  • Good dose of antioxidants.
  • Easy to mix with other antioxidants or oils.
  • Did not cause any allergic reaction to my skin.
  • Price is decent compared to other ferulic acid serums.

Cons of The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3%:

  • Makes skin oily.
  • Might not be suitable for use to combo to oily skin types during summer.
  • Gives a very warm sensation for a few minutes after being applied (which makes the skin to sweat in my case).
  • Not easily available.
