Roshini asks:

Hi,

I have been following your blog IMBB for the last few months.I have never been much of a make-up and skin care person before, but now that I am on the wrong side of 20 (27 to be precise), I somehow feel that I should maybe start doing something. I have very oily skin and I sweat a lot, especially on my face which is why I cannot put any product on it. The moment I wipe the sweat off, the product’s gone too :(. I have heard that aloe vera gel is good for oily skin, could you tell me whether that is indeed true or not? Could you tell me what kind of skin care regimen I should follow? Should I apply anything on my face when I leave for work in the morning? Or should I mostly work on this in the evening after I return? I would be really grateful, if you could offer some suggestions about what products could be useful for me.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

Rohini, Mumbai

  1. Aloe vera gel in pure form is good for all skin types, try patanjali’s aloe vera. Before you leave for office, use a day cream with spf, a mattifying day cream or tinted moisturizer. You can also check out BB creams. You can apply the aloe vera gel after you return from office on thoroughly clean face.

  2. For oily skin, it is essential to use a suitable face wash and toner and an OIL FREE moisturizer. I use the Body Shop’s Tea Tree Range and love it! I use their normal face wash AND the creamy one (less harsh so I alternate), their toner (1 bottle has lasted me 6 months, and it is amazing!) and their skin clearing lotion (lightweight, non greasy, soothing and cooling *woot* )

For cheaper options, try Clean and Clear or Dove. Rose water makes a great toner, especially if your skin is sensitive.

Always wash your face in the morning and night, and tone and moisturize afterwards. If you are using scrubs (Clean and Clear, Dove, Lakme, Lotus and Ponds all have good cheap ones, look up reviews here) you should use them twice a week or so and either in the morning or evening. You don’t necessarily have to replace cleansing with scrubbing, scrubs work better on clean skin.
If you use a mask (again many options here, Lakme has amazing yet cheap ones), use it after cleansing and toning as this will allow it work best and reach lower layers of your skin. In fact, use the mask once a week after your scrubbing for best results. Using masks in the evening is best as you can relax for longer with them on *happydance*

Aloe vera gel is very soothing, after being in the hot weather and sun it is a great remedy. It also makes a great non greasy moisturizer for oily skin!

As far as sweating/applying products goes, I recommend you buy an inexpensive compact to start off with (Maybelline and Lakme have good ones) and maybe later progress to waterproof foundation/ primers etc.
Use gentle face wipes and blotting sheets when you sweat, blotting sheets absorb oil and don’t dislodge makeup. The thing about compacts is that touch ups are so easy! And they help in keeping your skin matte.
Don’t worry too much about not being able to use makeup often, skincare is the most important!
    Hope I’ve helped!
