Sugar Cosmetics liquid lipsticks are pretty raved about and they have launched 20 shades in the last two years in the “Smudge Me Not” liquid lipstick range. This year, they launched two more, and I had to pick them up 😛 For now, I have picked two shades – “Aubergine Queen” and “Rusty Lusty.” First, I will be reviewing “Aubergine Queen.” Read the review to know what I think about this liquid lipstick.
If you’ve ever lusted for a “one-coat wonder” product for your lips, your search ends here. Get a full-blooded burst of pigment with just a single swipe of the Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick that will stay the day and right up till the night! Wine, coffee and date-proof – this is a matte lipstick that is guaranteed to last longer than your longest day. Available in 30 stunning shades that will make it difficult to choose – the question is, are you ready to commit to a lipstick that is built to last? (You will get more details regarding ingredients, application technique and benefits in their website).
449 INR for 4.5 ml. I think the price is very reasonable when compared to other liquid lipstick variants available in the market, maybe they offer more in quantity. But then again I love smaller variants when it comes to makeup products. Firstly, you can check and see if you like the product and color. Secondly, you can actually use it up before it expires.
My Experience with Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick Aubergine Queen:
Packaging: This lipstick comes in the usual Sugar packaging – the lipstick tube comes inside a funky, colorful paper carton. I love the unique packaging of this product. While most liquid lipsticks come in long, tube packaging, this is a small tube that has square edges. The product is in a clear tube. The matte black cap has the applicator attached to it which helps with precise application; however, if you do not have a defined lip line (that is my problem and I am not an expert with drawing), you should use a lip liner first. The tiny product can be easily carried in your purse and is definitely cute.
Shade: “Aubergine Queen” is described by the brand as – “If you’ve got a soft corner for raw power, we dare you to surrender to Aubergine Queen! A blackened burgundy shade that breaks all bad – this is one unapologetic ode to your inner Diva.” I really do not get the difference between oxblood red, burgundy, wine etc. I was trying to pick either “Aubergine Queen” or “Very Mulberry.” This one looked more bright and vibrant and I decided to go for it. It has a warm tone to it and brightens up your face in a jiffy. It looks like a blood red shade with a hint of brown. I think it will suit every skin tone and is a great option to wear with Indian ethnic looks. There is no shimmer in the lipstick.
Texture and Quality: The texture is not thick or creamy like the creamy liquid lipstick. It is not too thin either. It is something in-between which glides smoothly on the lips without any tug or pull. It does not look patchy if you layer it on, but due to its intense pigmentation, you won’t really have to do that. However, if you do that, give it some time to dry after the first layer has been applied. After that, go with the next layer of product. It dries down pretty fast, to a beautiful matte finish that does not smudge or transfer. It takes a little more time to dry than the other shade; however, the finish is same for both. However, your lips may feel a little dry after some time. This obviously won’t break or look patchy on the lips. However. due to the dryness, your fine lines may become prominent. You must exfoliate your lips well before applying this liquid lipstick. Also, do prep your lips with a lip primer or lip balm before applicator. You may also apply a gloss or transparent lip balm over it if necessary.
Staying Power: It stays on my lips for over 8 hours without any smudging or transferring. It looks perfect throughout the day and does not even fade if you do not opt for a heavy, oily meal. It fades slightly with heavy meal, but survives water and other drinks. You should never make the mistake of removing this lipstick with a water-based product. It won’t and even if it moves, it will look horribly messy. Use a good oil-based cleanser to take it off from the lips and it goes away without leaving any stain.
Overall, I am super happy with my pick. This year, I am trying to invest in warm, bright lipsticks (now do not judge me if I end up buying and reviewing a few vampy shades after a few months) and this color looks super promising.
