About
I was never a make-up addict until I got married early this year.My Indian wedding got me some amazing cosmetics as gifts, I realized that if I don’t explore this world I would definitely miss something big. So there started my love for make up, especially Indian Make up. I started buying and trying products. I used to share all this stuff with my friends, give them my reviews and help them buy stuff. But when I personally wanted some reviews from a some Indian makeup blogs, I could find very little on blogosphere. So there I thought I would write my honest reviews on the products that I use or have used so far. This would help a lot of Indian women make better decisions. Personally I think make up is going to be my life long love.
Regarding beauty, I have always been keen on learning the home made beauty tricks from naani, daadi and mom. So you would also find a lot of daadi ma ke nuskhe, naani maa ke nuskhe, and maa ke nuskhe on this blog. ![]()
If you have any queries regarding your skin or you want me to review some Indian product feel free to leave a comment on my posts or contact me HERE.
I welcome you discover India and Indian makeup brands with me here. Welcome you to Indian Makeup and Beauty Blog.
Love and Hugs,
Rati

During my research I stumbled upon Rati’s blog. Her articles and reviews helped me a lot. I started playing with colours more and got better at choosing the right products.I always wanted to write, but never got the right opportunity and topics. Until now…….. Thank you Rati. I wish to continue my association with this blog and makeup as long as I can.

hi rati!
like you, i too am a diehard makeup lover. i have been searching the net for good reviews about makeup products that are easily available in india but was so far disappointed. thankfully i stumbled upon your blog today through a quick google search. i havent read all your posts but the one about colorbar makeup brushes caught my eye as it mentioned select citywalk. i am a frequent visitor to that mall and personally feel that it is THE place to go to in delhi as far as makeup is concerned. i live in dwarka and its great to know that theres someone out here in my city who not only shares my passion for makeup but takes the time and effort to blog about it. i will be truly happy if you get in touch with me or reply.
you can contact me further through my blog whose link has been posted.

rima kaur
Hi Rima,
Welcome to my blog. I am so glad you liked it and thankful to Google as well who directed you here.
I know I love Select City Walk. I am yet to explore so much of it. Although I feel the Shopper’s Stop in Metropolitian stores all outdated stuff. I am so glad all these international brands are coming up with their stores in India. We don’t feel too outdated now.
Stay around and do let me know if you are looking for any specific product review.

Hi Rati
I’m looking to get some advice about make up products in India as my mum will be visiting Dehli and I’m really keen to get some Indian holy grail products. Are there any particular brands you would recommend for blush and lip products. I’m also looking for a soft black khol so I’m going to ask for the Himalya one you recommended. Any must have products that you think I need as someone who doesn’t have access to them abroad? Thanks Priyanka xoxo
HI Priyanka,
I suggest go for Lotus Kajal, it is even better than Himalaya Kajal, I am using it these days and I simply love it. You can look at getting Himalaya’s neem face wash, it’s great.Apart from that you can ask your mom to take a look at Colorbar Products. I love their blushes (especially the trace gold blush and peachy rose), nail paints, and lipsticks. For mum, you can ask her to buy 1-2 tubes of Lakme Sindhoor.
She would love it. Lakme cheek and lip tint has some of the great reviews around but I have not used it personally. It is claimed to be one of the most natural looking blushe around.
We have Revlon, Maybelline, Body Shop, Bourjois, Max Factor, Cliniqe, Lancome , Mac etc. here. You tell me if you don’t have any of these brands there. I can suggest you products from these brands.
Regarding Skin Care, Fab India has some awesome products. Their facials sprays are something to die for. Their moisturizing creams (day/ night) and soaps are also great.
Hi Rati,
I was surfing the net for some advise on good eye-liners and found most blogs on makeup and beauty by non-indians or NRIs with reviews abt products we usually dont get here in India….After a lot of surfing I finally came upon your blog and was so glad to see reviews about products easily available here, will surely go through ur entire blog….I currently use Revlon eyeliner on a daily basis on my waterline. Though it does not smudge, it wears off very easily and after a couple of hours it doesnt even seem like I had applied one…..Can you advise on some good eyeliner which does not smudge, does not wear off and is long-lasting…
Cheers
Hi HD,
You are exactly saying what I used to say a few months back. I used to surf for Indian makeup blogs and used to get diverted on blogs written by Indians who are staying in some different part of the world. I am so glad you found my blog useful.
For a long lasting and a smudge proof eye liner, I have only one name- colorbar. I get irritated by these liners at times because they don’t smudge.
But I love them a lot. They stay on endlessly and are a great for long day wears.
Wooow…after endless surfing on trying to figure out the best eye pencil, I don’t believe I actually have got some serious good advise. I had even checked w my friends all of whom use different brands of eye pencils but everyone faced the same problem…thanks so much for ur advise
Btw..any particular product in colorbar or its just the std eye pencil liner?
Hi HD- I am talking about the I Define Eye pencils : http://colorbarcosmetics.com/Products/I-Define-Eye-Pencil__EP.aspx
The truffle colour is the most gorgeous shade of brown I have found yet and midnight black is the blackest black among a lot of liners around. Do buy is sharpener, its for Rs 99 but an excellent thing to have. I have the sharpener for almost an year now and the blade is as sharp as ever and it sharpens my pencils without braking them. there is also a tiny stick behind the sharpener, which is used to clean the surface of blade.
Thanks Rati….will buy soon….I already have the sharper w a tiny stick which again is am using from arnd 2 years and its still as good…so will begin w the eye pencil
Great! Do let me know how you find it.
Hey Rati…I’ve read some good reviews abt Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner too…any idea abt that?
Yes, I have also heard a lot of good stuff about them but never used them. You might give them a try and let me know, may be.
hey I bght the colorbar eye pencil yest
I had to decide between Lakme Glide On, Colorbar and Maybelline…Maybelline unstoppable was the retractable type and I prefer the pencil types which need to be sharpened..also the store didnt hv the tester for Maybelline…Lakme was good too…but the color was mettalic black…which was more like dark grey and I wanted something in black as this was my basic eyeliner…so bght colorbar
…also wanted to checkout Colorbar tracegold blush and concealer as I have dark circles but both were out of stock so will check those out in my next visit
i also checked the lakme eye artist liner and liked it but not too sure whr n how I can use it…hv u used that?? I normally use eye pencil on my waterline and lakme liquid eyeliner on my upper lashline…I can never apply eyeliner properly on my lower lashline…can you give some tips
I told you Colorbar’s liner is the blackest of black I have found yet. I also like the pencils that can be sharpened. I am a bacteria freak.
Lakme’s nine to five liners are good but I won’t re buy them because they are retractable types.
I really like lakme eye artist and I use it only on my upper lash line. It’s a liquid liner in pen form so doesn’t make sense to use such a liquid thing in your waterline. I generally use kajal in my lower lashline and in very rare occasions eyeliner pencils. I just make sure that the eye pencils are medically tested and are safe to use inside the eye. I will do a teeny weeny tutorial for you for application on lower lash line. It’s very easy.
Thanks Rati….I hope colorbar pencil would be fine to be used on waterline as thats wht I have bght this for
Have used the Revlon pencil until now and other than wearing away issue I dint face any problem medically with it…yeah even the SA told me that the Lakme eyeartist if for upper and lower lashline, not waterline….but i liked the final outcome….though its a liquid pencil…it looks very different from the normal liquid eyeliners after its set…Thanks soo much for ur advise once again and I will be a regular visitor here for sure now
I have used Colorbar’s pencil on my water line a few times and I have had no issues with it. But different people react to stuff differently so you might give it a try.
Yes, Lakme’s eye artist gives this glossy finish, which I quite like.
I am glad you liked my recommendations. Thanks a lot.
yes..have applied that today..no probs as yet and lets wait for the day to end to see how its stayed…btw which kajal do u use for waterline? eagerly waiting for the eyeliner tutorial….can you also include the tutorial on how you use the eye artist…Thanks again!
Cheers!!
let me see.
I have been using Kajals since the time I was born. These days it’s Lotus Kajal.
I am quite liking it. Himlaya’s Kajal is also good.
Hey Rati….I used a new product today which I recently bght so thght of sharing it with you…it may help you or some of your readers…..On my recent trip to a’bad I bght the Khadi Pudina Cream Cleanser and must say it really is good….I have been using Neutrogena cleanser until now and that has been good too other than the most common complaint ppl have with cleansers i.e eyes getting stung…though my eyes did get stung w the Khadi cleanser too it was much much much less compared to the Neutrogena one..it removed almost 98% of my makeup including colorbar eyepencil, just a wee bit left when u wipe the area arnd the eye with a cloth….the fragrance is Pudina which I liked too and my skin is very soft after using this cleanser…I also bght a scrub from Khadi and now cant wait to try that even….the price is also very reasonable…Rs. 95 for 210ml……and has all the ingredients listed w quantity per 1 kg….
OH great! I have used quite a few Khadi products such as face wash, oils, neem pack and shampoos but have not seen the pudina cleanser here, I might look out for it the next time I hit the store.
Pudina sounds nice- fresh and minty. Thanks for sharing. Yes, the prices are quite reasonable for the quantity that they provide. I used Neutrogena’s eye cream but didn’t like it. Now I am quite skeptical about buying something else from the brand.
And by the way you also have to give me an update on your liner. How did it perform during the day?
yes i rem…i think i’ll use it for some more days before giving u an update…during ofc days I dont hv to do alot of travelling so the liner tends to stay..the actual test would be when I am out for long hrs travelling in auto/train…if you want I can send u pics of the khadi product so tht its easier for you to spot..lemme know….I have only used the Neutrogena cleanser till now and it has been good….I knw of alot of ppl who vouch for the Neutrogena Facewash…i recently tried the Himalaya Fruit Pack, but dont think it made any difference to my skin…can you advise how often shud one use a face pack and how does it help
Oh yes, do send me the pics at mirrorobsession@gmail.com
I’ll be glad to see. I have used Himalaya’s fruit pack and quite liked it. Infact, it really helped me detan after I came back from a Goa Holiday.
When you are travelling in local trains or buses, do wear sun glasses an cover your face with a cotton scarf completely. This would keep your skin in better condition.
If you have normal to dry skin, use face pack once in a week. Someone with oily skin can use facepack twice a week. Just make sure that your face is clean before you apply a pack. Face packs exfoliate and tightens your skin. They are like a skin food.
thanks again!!! though I travel by auto to ofc I over my entire head and face with a scarf without fail…does the facepack have to be used for some time for the effects to be seen? Another new product I strted using since last 2 days is the ponds age miracle cream w SPF15…its a good moisturiser w very light shimmer particles which provide a nice glow to the face n since it hs SPF i dont need to separately apply sunscreen to the face…just incase u wanna try out
Facepack should be a part of your regular face routine-once a week. WIll look out for it, I have heard a lot about the product now. I’d better get it.
I discovered your blog just recently and really like it! When you get a chance, check out my blog at http://www.kajalcouture.blogspot.com. Some of the products might not be available in India, but I know the bigger brands like MAC are available there. When I was in India last month I was really wanting to try out some local brands like Lakme, but it was very overwhelming! Next time I go I will be sure to check for some of your recommendations!
HI Kajal,
Welcome abaoard. I will surely check out your blog. You didn’t miss much by not trying Lakme but I guess by your next trip to India I would have loads to suggest you.
Do stay around.
Hey Rati
Is there a way for me to follow your blog through my google ID?
Now now that you have mentioned, I’d rather figure this out.
Hi!!
.. He knew me before wedding as this no-makeup or kajal-mascara girl.. and post all that wedding makeup.. I am FULL into blush, eyeshadow, shimmer.. what have you
. Like many others struggled to find good products/reviews/info catered to Indian women. What a JOY to find this! keep it going.. you have one more loyal fan here.
Am feverishly reading all your old posts.
So happy to have found your blog. Lots of similarities.. me too got interested in makeup post my wedding last year (much to the shock/surprise of my hubby

P.S: hubby rolls his eyes each time I surf makeup blogs, buy a new product..but never stops me from doing so! Looks like the better “with makeup” looks are appreciated

When did the store start?!

Oh the store has started from today onwards. It is an amazon store so it is completely safe to use.
You would also get to read some reviews on every product that you may want to purchase.
Oh thank god! I was wondering how I’d missed it!
So the stuff comes from abroad?! Shipping charges are high na
although I’m eyeing a few things
(great idea btw :*)
Everything would be mentioned there regarding shipping and payments.
I am also eyeing a few things.
My parents will kill me!

Welcome to my blog.

Thank you for all the kind words and the “name” credit goes to my dad. Will let him know that.
Will mail you regrading what you suggested.
Stay around.
Hey Rati,
Just wanted to say that you are doing a fabulous job with the blog.
I stumbled across it last month while searching for some products. Have read almost everything on it. I got inspired to actually experiment with neutral lip shades (I usually stick to warm shades of pink) after reading your blog entries. So I went out and bought myself a Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Hazelnut. Its amazing! Thank you for that.
I’m obsessed with make-up; have been so since the age of 21 when I went through a matte-navy blue eyeshadow phase (yes! it was horrible, and my sister threatened to disown me for it).
I’ve graduated to, ahem, more dignified shades since then.
I’m glad to have discovered your blog, Rati.
Lipstick Rules!!
